Is there a warning sign telling you to go less than 45 MPH? I normally just take curves like that at double the speed of the warning sign.

^Nope. The only sign about the curve is a sign telling you that there is a curve coming up.

Glad y'all are ok. Too bad about the car, but maybe you can get something with better handling as a replacement.

Did you grab that GPS unit before leaving the scene? I've heard valuable items have a way of disappearing from tow lots...

No.

Had a firefighter grab his cell and ipod, and my mother got his keys.

Everything else is still in there.

The fact that we have pictures, and that the car was guarded the whole time by LEOs up until it was towed, is a good thing. If they try anything funny, it won't be pleasant for them. I'm a cranky, mean, tenacious cheapskate

And...the GPS thing never worked well. I'd have to hold it out a window for a 50/50 shot at getting any signal, and it's a very old one.

^no, they'd miss me posting porn. I don't think they'd miss him at all

So...I carry my cell in my bra a lot of the time. With DDD boobs, I can easily hide a treo in there. This cell is smaller.

My cell phone flew out of my boobs during the rolling...but everything else I'd been carrying in my bra was still in there. My shoes flew off, too. I actually still have a piece of glass in my foot that I'm gonna go to urgent care for today, after we get a rental car.

So, is this thing designed to keep the car up in a roll-over? If so, that's interesting. If not, what the fuck is it?

really good to come away basically unscarred - can't ask for much more really

if you were going the speed limit then how is there not a wreck there everyday - the pt cruiser isn't the best at taking corners but there is no way that it's the worst that is on that road every day either - it's not an extremely light car and not the easiest to roll without a few quick jerks back and forth at a decent speed - it's hard to blame the road on this one especially since it's not a new road - repaving should work in your favor - how does someone remark on how a road is slick unless they pushed the limits of the road - speed limits are made for the lowest common denominator and the pt cruiser isn't anywhere close to that

Oh, we know.

We're about as close to unscathed as you could ever hope for.

Having gone back to the area...we saw a sign suggestiong 20mph for the curve, that's not new. I've never noticed it before
But...the trooper also said "You can take that curve at 45mph." (And immediately asked again "Any ideas what caused you to lose control?")

So you have the speed limit, which a troooper says is safe to go, but that I won't take that curve at, and that clearly wasn't safe for us to take yesterday, and then you have the suggested speed, which would have been very safe. The reckless driving charge could stick, because of that, but the 60 in a 45? Yeah right.

I don't know what kind of driver his mother is. I doubt she drives like me but I could be wrong.

Having gone back, zorthage has come up with what he thinks happened: fishtailed, corrected, braked, spun, rolled. Judging from the distances of the skid marks and the divots in the grass, he's guessing his front brakes caught and his back ones didn't? I don't fully understand that.

At any rate...I'm going to rip into the trooper in court. He claims Matt's two right tires went off the pavement right where Rock Service joins Old Stage...it's all gravel and grass (i.e., no tread marks). I intend to ask him just how he "knows" this. And...if Matt's tires had been off the road there, because he took the curve too fast...we'd have crashed into the trees by the service station.

I'm also looking into having him go ahead and have a drug test done, because this cop seems convinced matt was impaired somehow, and we have eight people who will vouch that he wasn't drinking before the accident, or impaired, and a drug test will come back completely clean, except for the vicodin he was prescribed after the accident.

I expect that this is not going to go well in court, but we are damn sure fighting it.

I actually kind of am

I used to always call it the PT Loser...I've now started calling it the PT Bruiser, given what it's done to me. I may post pictures of the bruises. They're pretty wicked. My elbow looks like a bowl of mixed up fruit sorbet, my belly looks like someone squashed a bunch of blackberries on it, and the bruising on the side of my thighs looks is less remarkable in color, but kind of big (given how much padding is there... )

And the bruises are still maturing, too

recipe for disaster... and yeah, front pads catch much more than your rear ones will. so braking during a turn transfers the weight BIG TIME. dont be surprised. its your typical brake during a turn, where your turn was a fish tail, which didnt help.

there is no need to be shocked in why you flipped over. but yeah, if the trooper is making things up, then def. get him in court.

similar thing happened to my friend, went off road and had to avoid a tree so he flipped. trooper tried to make things up. blah blah

he braked when he should have kept going? you typically never brake during a fishtail. FWD cars need to either stay at speed or accelerate and drive like you would if you were on ice.

glad you are ok though, neon's (what that pt crusier is) aren't typically known for their roll over safety.

i'm gonna stick with the idea that he was speeding, even a little bit... most cars can take that curve at 45 without batting an eye.

if a cop tried to make me confess, id be like, well why dont you call CSI (the smarter police force) and have them tell you how fast I was going.

they can do that you know.
so fuck you

i guess he got a ticket for not controlling his vehicle though

Yeah, that's basically what it's for.

But I think if we can prove he's full of shit (which won't be hard. I am going to straight up ask for proof that Matt's right tires were where he says they were, and I doubt he can), we (by 'we' I mean James Crouch + my pictures of the area) might have a chance at getting everything the trooper has thrown at my bf thrown out. I hope

Quote :

He braked after he was out of the fishtail. I guess?

Anyways, he did steer into the skid, just like you would on ice

As far as I'm concerned, the worst has passed, there's a very good chance at not getting ass-raped on car insurance, we're safe, and the car will be replaced.

given how bad my crash was at 60 in a 55, I believe your speed. Of course WITH visible tracks form the deer where i swerved to miss him, I still got a ticket once my car was pulled over onto its wheels and towed off, mine was for 'failure to maintain lane when doing so would have worked to prevent the vehicle from leaving the road'. A well, insurance paid mine off, paid a down payment on my truck plus a gun or two, and a trip to nash county courthouse got the ticket taken care of. Sucks that a day lost form work to deal with the ticket cost me more than the ticket plus court costs did.

when leaving my home one day in New Bern...it was raining and I basically was going too fast but there was a huge puddle in the turn that made me spin and eventually hydroplane

i had corrected but it was too far along and it overcorrected. it was just my car, a mail box and some bushes and some wood on the next houses carport. but basically i totalled the car because of how i hit shit. if the ditch wasnt so close to the road and so deep, I would have been fine.

but the trooper said he had to give me a ticket for not controlling my vehicle but it was thrown out since my cousins ex-wife worked in the county DAs office

I used to think all these people ranting about troopers were full of it or had an axe to grind. I stood fairly in the middle in my opinion of troopers, despite all the stuff in the news recently, simply because I haven't had any dealings with them.

This guy is not giving me any reasons to think of the SHP as a potentially benevolent, helpful agency, or to maintain a neutral position.

^I already answered your question.

Okay, so this is the bruise on my lower abdomen at 330 today.

This is it at 10 tonight. It's still 'ripening'

This is where zorthage was hanging.

It's all kind of picturesque, until you notice the car chillin' there

Pictures are what we do in my family. I'm not attention whoring (intentionally, at least)...I'm just still kind of
I definitely intend to be a much less aggressive driver, that's for damn sure.

I'm going to miss this car

I usually wear them; now I won't not wear them.

up until this, I have never had any trouble with handling with the PT. That's a reason why i didn't slow down as much as the signs suggested (I was going 45, 50 max); still don't know why it started to fishtail though

Starting a PT lawn service, coming to a yard near you.

At least something with better gas mileage 20-25 city isn't that great. Definitely won't be looking for a sports car, thats for damn sure.

if it was a new road like you guys say and if it was even remotely wet (from any kind of substance), then new roads can be slick as hell. Much more so than older roads.

Had a friend roll his car (heavily modified handling wise) on a brand new road just like this

At any rate, glad y'all are safe and alright

^No...I'm fighting what the BS trooper claims: 60mph, and that Z's tires left the road in a place where
1) we know they didn't
2) The trooper has no way to know
BS Trooper also claims that curve can be taken at 45mph
