The Orc Choppa looks to be the perfect class for me:

Those last two youtube videos look close enough to WoW to get me interested. The user interface and layout seem almost identical. Should help the learning curve a lot.

yea i couldnt decide if that was a good or bad thing. The entire thing looked like it was basically WoW with the player just controlling some new character/race in a new zone.

oh no i agree with that. WoW was the first real mmo I played (although I had watched/messed around on friends accounts in stuff like UO and EQ etc). I agree that the UI is great and that Warhammer was probably smart in using it.

What Im wondering is, the more they go for a WoW feel, are they jeopardizing uniqueness to the point where people wont see a reason to switch? Guess that will only be determined when its being played en masse and the actual gameplay is experienced.

I think this realm pvp thing is the pivot for the switch.


If they try to catch up with WoW, they'll never be a competitor. What wow does, it does well.


If warhammer can make pvp more enjoyable, and offer fresh ideas in the PvE stuff, i think it'll go far.



I dunno though. If warhammer gets anything right, wow is likely to just implement it in a patch. So we'll have to see how it all plays out.


I think their strategy seems to not be "lets rebrand wow with different effects", but more lets use the elements that made wow popular as a hook to get people to buy into our realm pvp idea

I agree that it does seem to look a bit like wow, but the detail, sound, and overall feel of the game seems to be 100% darker. And while humor plays a small part in WoW (haha Link is in Ungoro, rofls) it is a huge part of WAR. Just from what I have seen it looks to be an enjoyable experience, and while a lot of people still get satisfaction out of WoW (me included) I don’t know that anyone is truly enjoying the experence of playing the game any longer. It’s not just an issue of content; it’s an issue of a tired style.

Plus, I have always preferred PVP to PVE. And to be able to progress your toon with PVP and with a massive number of tiered battlegrounds, including taking over motherfucking cities? I’m sold.

And yes I will be playing a Chosen. Tanks (speced for pve tanking) can kill people in PvP? BLASPHEMY!

We need to pick a server next month.

i think too many mmorpgs are trying to reinvent the wheel.

From the videos I've seen, warhammer has probably got the right idea. whether people are ready to bail on warcraft is another story.

There will always be fanboys who will stick with ti no matter what, but from what I have seen a lot of the 'smarter' players that I have met on wow are going to at least give it a whirl.

Also I think they removed the Choppa.


Also as far as UI goes, I think it isn’t a copy but a vast improvement over what wow offers. You can have two target frames for example, one for friendlys and one for enemies

Will the setup be the same in warhammer?

example:

I level a character in PvE, gaining gear and stats
then i go to battlegrounds and get points (honor kills/arena points) for pvp gear
battlegrounds are separated by level

The interface actually looks a lot like DAOC (which mythic developed before warhammer). WoW actually took a LOT of cues from DAOC and improved on many aspects, while DAOC clearly had (and likely still has) WOW beat in world pvp (RVR).

If they improved on the PVE aspect of the game and kept the general PVP aspects in place then Warhammer will be awesome and PVP will actually matter to even the lower tiered players.

Nope.

It has actual world PVP with objectives that matter, other than a 5% damage buff.

You can level solely with PVP. And elements of PVP and PVE are completely entwined. Think of the old AV quests where you gather resources only about 100 different types that aren’t as boring as “collect 10 rams hides”.

Also, gear is still here, but much much less important. You won’t have guys with no life walking around killing everything they look at. That being said the game will obviously reward for time played, but how good you are is going to be based more on true skill within equal levels. And it's not just your skill, but the skill of those you run with. Think WoW arena in world pvp. That's RvR in a nutshell.

Edit: Plus there is a third 'bar' if you will. Morale that you and the people you fight with build up. The better you do, the longer you go, the more crazy shit you can do. I'm talking cone effects that nuke everything within 80 yars in front of you.

I've been in the beta for almost a year now and it's a pretty good game...My sister and her husband are lead content for Warhammer at EA Mythic so I get to hear a lot of stuff...

The only negatives that I have about the game is that the leveling is far too easy so you can rvr quicker and you don't really have to put any thought into tasks, etc... In DAOC the anticipation of creating your toon and getting it to a level 50 was really awesome and made you love your toon even more.

As for the graphics, you see the similiarities b/t War and Hibernia in DAOC, but not with the other realms. The graphics are tons better though and the game is way different.

To play the beta up until a few months ago, you had to have a God box, but I think some of the requirements for the game play have settled down. I don't think they wanted people judging the game based on their computer problems. I don't know...but I had to build an entire new computer for this game...

Anyone have a Witch Elf?...

noob questions since I havent followed this game or warhammer lore and havent actually done RvR. Are you only allied with your "race"? ie everyone you want to pvp with has to be orcs, or chaos, etc?

I thought the grind in DAOC sucked because the pre-50 content blew. WoW was similar but they had better leveling content. I prefer to level quickly and have lots of good content so I can jump between solo and murder.

^^nope. It's Destruction (like Horde) and Order (like Alliance)

You start out killing players of your opposite race. Greenskin and Dwarfs, Chaos and Empire, two elves. (unless they changed it)

But once you get out of the lower pvp it's all realm on realm.

DAoC was a bitch to level and apparently I had two of the cake classes leveling-wise as my mains. Darkness falls was one of the best dungeons I have done in any MMO though. That was pre-50.

my laptop has a decent processor and 3GB of RAM but its just a built in graphics card so its kept me from playing most games besides WoW the few times I log on.

My desktop was a nice machine like 3 years ago and would probably run warhammer fine on normal settings (3GB, single core processor but was the fastest single core I could buy after duals were out, and 7800GT) but it crashes randomly these days and I dont have my windows xp discs to try a reformat

I built my system 6 years ago and Ive just been replacing shit as it dies. Real frankenstein's monster's computer. Still has 1 hard drive and motherboard from the first one so I've had to settle for the best of the older kind of video cards. No idea what the slot is, not a very serious computer guy, but it's the one that was popular like 2 or 3 video card slot types ago, so I feel your pain as far as that goes.
