I was at the game last night talking shit to some Clemson fans in the Wake section.

I wouldn't have done it, but they started it.

I've heard some differing things about Clemson.

A lot of people seem to think their fans have a higher opinion of the program than they should and that is all because of a national title that they only won because they cheated.

What is the story with the cheating? Is it just sour grapes or was there any legs to it?

[Edited on October 10, 2008 at 10:52 AM. Reason : in any case lol at 3-3]

Well, part of me agrees with that. That's not to say we shouldn't strive to be the best, but unrealistic expectations can hurt a program too.

In any case, Clemson is a bit different because they have these huge expectations year after year, but they consistently blow it... it's almost annual at this point.

Rumors are going around that if Tommy Bowden didn't win against Wake, then he'd be shown the door.

I think the difference between Clemson football and NC State basketball is that they actually are one of the, if not the most, talented team in the league. The think Clemson lacks is good o-linemen. How Tammy hasn't been able to develop quality o-linemen and depth in the 10 years he's been there is beyond me. Especially considering how well they've supposedly been recruiting these past few years.

That was ugly. The O-line is probably the biggest factor right now in the demise of the season (along with Harper's Jekyll and Hyde performance). Mickey Plyler says a decision has already been made and we might be hearing an announcement soon but we could be just waiting until the end of the season if the administration feels like that is the honorable thing to do.

So the ACC could potentially see Friedgen, Groh, and Bowden all be fired. I hope those will be the last of the firings for a few years. The only other coach I would like to see fired in the next few years is Jagodzinski. He's a pompous ass, and him being fired in the next few years would probably mean that BC has fallen into obscurity, which I would love to see.

eh...not much shit talking to be honest. We just had a group of some fat ugly clemson girls sitting behind us that were being loud and did their "C-L-E-M-S-O-----N" chant a few times. There were probably 3 girls and 5 guys.

So when wake picked that ball off at the clemson 20 we all turned around and did that chant to them. Then we got a good "TOMMY BOWDEN clap clap clapclapclap" going when they went for it on 4th and long.

Nothing too serious. Wake fans suck though. That was a game where the fans should have been going bonkers late in the game but they were dead quiet while clemson was on offense. You cant tell me that our stadium wouldn't be shaking if we had a 5 point lead with 6 minutes left and the other team had the ball. It was sad but thats wake for you. The student section was packed too...but too many people socializing and drunk girls throwing up all over the place.

here's Caulton Tudor's list of possible replacements for Tammy:
Quote :
"1. Jim Leavitt, South Florida: Good with the spread option and a respectable staff organizer, he’s stayed true to the Bulls during the past two or three seasons. But with QB Matt Grothe likely to enter the April NFL draft, the timing (and money) could be right for Leavitt to make a move.

2. Jim Grobe, Wake Forest: The gloves have been dropped in the ACC, and Grobe will be seen as fair game by anyone, including Virginia in addition to the Tigers. But given Grobe’s success at Wake, it’d take a ton of money and even more national championship promise to lure him away. Clemson has plenty of money, but it’s no longer a national championship coaching destination.

3. Bobby Johnson, Vanderbilt: He’s a Clemson man and spent much of his life living in the upstate area. Whether it’s Clemson or somewhere else, Johnson and his staff will get offers to move on at season’s end.

4. Skip Holtz, ECU: No doubt, he’d prefer Notre Dame or maybe even South Carolina or Arkansas under the right circumstances. But what’s done in Greenville is nothing if not a resume builder.

5. Tommy Tuberville, Auburn: He’s almost left before, but his Tiger offense this season is a mirror image of Tommy the Clemson Tiger.

6. Mike Leach, Texas Tech: Sooner or later, somebody will lure Leach out of Lubbock. It’s inevitable.

7. Mack Brown, Texas: This is the longest of long shots, but Mack still loves the North Carolina mountains. He’s got a summer house near Boone. It’s just something to think about as we move along.

8. Chris Petersen, Boise State: He can spread it out, air it out and run it successfully to the weak side.

9. Bill Cowher, CBS: Laugh to your heart’s delight, but Coach Jawbone will get at least a phone call from any school in the general area that’s looking for a coach.

10. Steve Logan, Boston College offensive coordinator: Pound-for-pound, he’s still one of the very best offensive coaches in the business.

11. The field: Which includes David Cutcliffe of Duke, Houston Nutt of Ole Miss, Gary Pinkel of Missouri, Phil Fulmer of Tennessee and Bud Foster of Virginia Tech. "

Re: Caulton Tudor's list

1. Jim Leavitt isn't going to leave South Florida. It's his dream job. His baby. They are going to name something big after him once he's done there. Plus Florida is a better area for recruiting than South Carolina. Tampa is way better than Clemson. Also it's easier for him to get to a BCS bowl in the Big East than it is in the ACC.

2. Jim Grobe has had a lot of job offers from much better programs than Clemson, so what makes Tudor think he's going to go to Clemson of all places.

3. I could easily see Bobby Johnson going to Clemson. It just depends on whether or not a better offer comes along.

4. Skip will be holding out for a better gig than Clemson. He can demand such.

5. Tuberville isn't going anywhere this season.

6. Leach is a possibility and his background in the SEC having once been on Kentucky's staff could mean that he has enough experience and connections in the South to succeed, but he's been in Big 12 country for almost a decade now.

7. Why the fuck would Mack Brown leave Texas, a program where he can win a national championship b/c of the talent he can bring in and not b/c of his coaching skills, for fucking Clemson?

8. Petersen will definitely be jumping to a BCS program soon. I'm surprised it hasn't already happened yet. So yes he's a possibility. Outside of his one year at Pitt in 1992, Petersen doesn't have any experience on the East coast. Would he be able to recruit effectively to Clemson without really knowing the area?

9. Cowher isn't coaching anywhere in college (save NC State in a perfect world).

10. Logan is a very good choice. He knows the Carolinas, and now has some recent experience in the ACC. Logan and Johnson would be the two I look at right away.

11. Cutcliffe isn't going to spurn Duke after one year. He'd probably face a stiff financial penalty if he broke his contract after one year. Same for Nutt. Missouri is Pinkel's baby and he's got that program in a way better situation than Clemson's program does right now. Fulmer would be a good pickup if UT let him go (which would be sad considering all he's done there and he just won the SEC East last year). Bud Foster would be a good choice. He knows the area and he knows the ACC. The only think is that Foster has been offered head coaching positions before, but has always turned them down. Most believe he is waiting to take over after Beamer retires.

I really hope Clemson does fire Tammy. It could really pay off for us in recruiting this year. Tyler Shatley and Larry Raper could change their minds.

Quote :
""They just told us. It's what he deserved," said senior quarterback Cullen Harper, who was benched after the Tigers' loss to Wake Forest loss and replaced by highly regarded sophomore Willy Korn. "Dabo Swinney is a fine man and will do an excellent job."

Harper struggled playing behind an inexperienced offensive line this season. His father, Jeff Harper, an offensive lineman on Georgia's 1980 national championship team, said Bowden's dismissal was justified.

"I'd call it karma," he said. "I thought it needed to be done. I think anytime a head coach or someone in a leadership position starts to place blame on his coaches and players, it weakens their respect on the team. His past experiences have shown he's done that." "

And here's one from Spiller:

Quote :
""I enjoyed playing for coach Bowden and I liked him, but in the end he was yelling at us to be leaders and it wasn't working. He did all he could to motivate us but guys weren't buying into what he was saying. And he said a lot of the same things over and over again.

"He let the offensive coordinator [Rob Spence] run the show and we got away from me and James [Davis]. I think part of the problem was when he benched Cullen. Some people wanted the offensive coordinator fired, [Bowden benched] the quarterback and then he got fired." "

Looks like Bowden had completely lost the team.

Harper is just being a bitch now b/c he was benched. He should thank Bowden for giving him a scholarship, playing time that made him into the big man on campus which probably resulted in plenty of pussy, and gave him 6 games this season before he pulled him out. I know that a lot of blame can be placed on the offensive line, but you can't blame a coach for trying to get something going by changing the quarterbacks. All QBs can look good with adequate protection, but only a few can still be productive under constant pressure.

Still it's funny to think that the ACC Preseason POY is now benched.

What a season for Clempson.

Start the season ranked in the Top-10 with supposedly three potential Heisman candidates in Spiller, Davis, and Harper. A lock to win the ACC and potential dark horse national title hopes.

After 6 games, 3-3, Harper benched, Spiller hurt (although I do not know if it is serious), and Tammy fired.

Ha ha NC State shit.

^^ yes. Sounds like everyone is saying the same thing from the Clemson forums I've read.

^ Spiller got hurt in the 3rd quarter (i think) of the WF game with what looked like a hamstring injury. I saw some trainers stretching him out, take him the locker room, and come back in street clothes.

This might top the season Oregon State had in early 2000 when SI had them preseason #1.
