True enough. Those 2 points were the only ones that came to mind while I was writing the post. It's fair to say that you can fudge the use of the term "fair trade" to justify trade restrictions just easily as you can use "free trade" to justify bringing in unsafe products assembled by 50 people crammed into an attic just b/c it costs less.
I just get annoyed when support for "fair trade" is spun into "opposition of free trade." Who wants to stop free trade? It's an extremely effective talking point, one which I wanted to squash early on in this thread. There's more to trade agreements than simply removing any and all restrictions and taxes....8/20/2008 5:52:22 PM |

Oh, it's even worse. Our supposed free trade agreement aren't that at all. Instead, they're one-sided protectionist measures designed to benefit educated workers, large corporations, and patent holders.8/20/2008 7:58:54 PM |
