loved my high school and my high school days.
public school, finished in the top 10% of the class.
I just remember playing football, working bullshit jobs just to scrape enough $texas together to buy some natty light, hanging with my friends and chasing tail without any real responsiblity. awesome.
some of my best friends to this day were also my friends in high school.

I went to school in Randolph County (public school) and it was OK. Sometimes I really hated and sometimes I loved it. I enjoyed my classes, but I like to learn new things. My high school only had 3 AP classes and we were not a member of the NHS. I was disappointed by that because I knew a lot of kids in Guilford County schools that had way better opportunities and went into college with more credit hours
I did well academically and I played tennis and did swim team. I had friends all over, but my main friends were the "athletes" or whatever. The only "enemies" I had were the rednecks that would randomly throw the Nword out and drive with their rebel flags flying in the back of their trucks. Also I graduated with about 8 black people in my class, and they hated me because I was smart They talked shit about me all the time. OH well.
I'm not close with anyone I graduated with. My best friend from high school actually graduated a year after I did. My reunion is in 09 I'm a little worried about that because I know everyone will be as fake as they are when I go home to visit. Most everyone stayed or came back to live there, and they are all married to each other. I'm not a big fan of my hometown though, so my view could be a little skewed. 8/25/2008 9:23:37 AM |

- Loved it
Public - Jordan-Matthews HS in the big town of Siler City, NC.
I lettered 5 times athletically, Football (Jr. & Sr. year), Baseball (Jr. & Sr. year), and Indoor Track (Jr. year). I was All-Conference Baseball Sr. Year, and All-Conference Honorable Mention Football Sr. Year. Academically, I was in the top 10% of my class, but that doesn't say a lot since there was only 94 in my Sr. class. The same 15 people were in all my classes. I was on the College Prep/Honors track. I was a big time DECA dork. I competed nationally twice, So. and Sr. years.
There weren't really any cliques at my HS. Everyone knew most everyone else.
My friends were fairly important to me then, but I don't really keep up with any of them now since no one from HS still lives in Siler anymore, me included.
To answer joe_schmoe's question...college was disfunctional for me. I was on again off again for 4 years and finally got a 2-year AAS six years after I graduated HS. I have yet to finish my bachelor's degree. 8/25/2008 9:25:11 AM |

It was ok. I remember just kind of being silly and goofy a lot of times.
It was a public school. I did great academically, social life was nonexistent, and had no interest in athletics.
My clique changed year to year, but it was always other dorks. My best friend from middle school made a huge fuss when they changed Superman's powers and obssessed over Star Trek when TNG was going on then switched to Star Wars when Episode I talk began. Meanwhile I talked about video games 24/7.
I don't see anyone from high school anymore. The aforementioned best friend has lived in Raleigh for 3-4 years and we've never hung out. Other friends I just lost contact with.
Our high school class was notoriously apathetic about EVERYTHING. The juniors are supposed to raise money for prom (as a 'gift' to the seniors) and we threw them a terrible prom. They were pissed. This year we're supposed to be having our 10 year reunion and we had to cancel because no one had the time to organize it. 8/25/2008 9:26:04 AM |

I liked it pretty much. It is pretty bad now though, so i hear.
However, it sounds like their football team is cracking skulls this year......literally.

I went to a private school. I liked the academic side. Great teachers, for the most part, and they actually cared about their students. There were lots of AP classes offered, and the guidance counselor was really into helping everyone find the perfect college because it was a prep school.
I hated the administration. The principal was a huge douche, and before my senior year they fired one of my best teachers because he treated his students like adults and didn't create enough of a student/teacher boundary. And they hired a complete bitch to replace him.
I guess my clique was the people who didn't really fit in with anyone else, but not in a negative way. We were just very different people, not the jocks or cheerleaders or nerds or stoners or any of those stereotypical groups. During my senior year the cliques pretty much went away, though, and most people were friends with everyone else. That was one good part of the small class size. I think there were 70ish in my graduating class, so everyone knew everyone.
The diversity left something to be desired. I think there were two black kids in the whole high school. Maybe 10 percent were Indian, and a handful of Asians, and the rest white kids.
I'm glad I didn't have to be there any longer. They got a football team my senior (or maybe it was junior - I forget) year, and it was destroying the school from the inside out. 8/25/2008 10:41:29 AM |

hated it
rocky mount senior high, public
i did really well academically with almost no effort. i ran on the cross country team and really enjoyed that. i wasn't super fast but i liked it. i don't like team sports that involve a piece of equipment or that depend on your performance for a team win (like soccer, softball, basketball, volleyball, etc). i hate hate hate cheerleaders.
no cliques. had friends from various groups and a handful of close actual friends. i do not stay in touch with one single person from my high school that isn't my brother.

Garner 1998. I never hung out with anyone from my class. The guys that were on the soccer team with me hated me. I was friends with people from the class of 1999 and 2000. It's not worth the $40.00 charge to go to the 10 year reunion in a month. I did enjoy high school though. I was one of those people that no one liked, or hated.

Fairly ambivalent. I did learn to utterly despise having to wake up before the sun comes up, though.

Middle of the road academically except in English and technology, where I excelled. Athletically I did very well since I played almost every sport our school had. Socially, I lived out of town and most of the people in my grade were not the kind of people I really wanted to associate with outside of school.
Quote : | "what kind of clique were you in, if any?" |
Definitely my very own. I drove a classic muscle car, they all drove daddy's BMW. I was highly interested in the military, they were all interested in getting fucked up. I loved video games, they wouldn't be caught dead playing them.
Quote : | "how important were your friends to you then? how important now?" |
Back then? Not so much. I do have a morbid fascination with seeing some of them again just so I can see how they turned out, and they can see how much I enjoy how I turned out. My friends I made in college are miles and miles away more important to me, and hopefully will be for the rest of my life.8/25/2008 5:04:50 PM |

I went to four high schools:
DeMatha Catholic High School The most academically challenging high school, but the rich kids always made fun of me for being poor.
High Point High School Sucked, just a bunch of white people pissed off at minorities and minorities pissed off at the government
Green Hope High School Sucked, arrived at this place two weeks into the year. Bunch of pretentious, arrogant, and uncreative white people. My saving grace was that people were impressed at my innate ability to understand economics.
Cary High School Fairly decent. It was still Cary, but people were slightly more down to earth. The resources there were awesome and I did end up making a lot of friends, since everyone loved knowing the kid that performed at Goodnight's. Awesome.
Overall? 3/10. College is much more suited for someone with my personality and socioeconomic background. 8/25/2008 5:10:51 PM |

New Hanover High School in Wilmington (Public)
Did well academically without trying. Was on the football team for two years, and the cross country team for one year - wasn't good at either, but I think they benefitted me in terms of confidence, social skills, leadership skills. Socially: I got along pretty well with most of the people I encountered, had a core group of 10 or so friends that I socialized with outside of school. I was terrible with girls.
Clique: we were all middle class white dudes, I dunno.
I'm still close with 5 or 6 of my friends. One of them is my roommate, in fact. 8/25/2008 5:22:43 PM |
