Or does it mean saying you will accept and abide by public financing, and then fail to do so later when it seems you can raise a hell of a lot more? Interesting interview. I thought Oreilly was quite easy on Obama, but I also thought Obama did pretty well in the interview. (You lefty nuts would NEVER say that if McCain did something that you thought was decent).

^ That may have been true once upon a time, but McCain has long since given up on those times. And I don't think McCain was reaching across the aisle so much as he was a closet leftist (which is why the republicans hated him until he became the nominee).

When you think about it, if there were someone that came anywhere close to Obama's positions where he could reach them half-way, they wouldn't call themselves a republican (this goes the other way too).

Anyways, I just watched part 1 of the Obama interview. Oreilly was actually challenging him, which surprised me. Obama did great though, imo. He really handles himself well. Although Im wanting to hear more on his tax and spending debate. Should be pretty good.

He would be a great speaker/image for this country, but his politics are total shit. I just cant get over that.

tonight we learned:

energy plan: obama is going to spend 150 billion on venture capitalists in the form of tax rebates over a 10 year period on solar/ hydro/ wind/ geothermal. he didn't say he was going to build any nuclear plants and he said he def wouldn't drill in ANWR or do any new drilling (in the wake of opec ruining the world by cutting production to raise prices. damn them)

european relationships: he said that we need to strengthen our relationship with germany and defended his european trip. he's going to engage in "deliberate diplomacy"

more on national security: defends the missile shield in poland but "only if it works right". but didn't outrightly support the missile shield.

agrees that putin is a huge problem. agreed with oreilly that europe is "sweet and cowardly" at the moment. obama pointed out that russias stock market took a huge beating for invading georgia and that invading or attack other european countries will be painful for russia economically.


finally: oreilly challenged obama to a one-on-one basketball game. first one to score 11 points.
obama said that oreilly has a height advantage but that he would have the speed advantage.

i bet it would be a good game. i doubt obama will actually play him though.

I think Oreilly really missed an opportunity in the section when they were talking about taxes. Bill was telling him how wealth redistribution is socialist.. and Obama said, "If im doing well, and my neighbor isnt. Shouldnt I help him?"

Bill didnt say anything.. But I was screaming at the TV. Obama has every right to help his neighbor. What he doesnt have the right is to take from YOU to give it to his neighbor. You can do whatever the hell you want with your time and money, you have that right. Just dont think you have a right to others time and possesions and Im cool.

Countless studies show that people who were born to a single parent, or that grow up without a father make more excuses and have less mental capacity to deal with challenges in all professions later in life. (just look at what happened to vince young this week, the qb for the titans)

Hence, when somebody comes along and is literally going to cluster-rape the rich of all their fortunes and earnings sounds very appealing.


But make no mistake. It will hurt society in so many ways. Just like a perfectly "equal" communist society hurts any form of innovation and hard work ethic.

For once... I think I actually might agree with what csharp is saying... Not that there's any solution to the child-raising issue he mentioned, or if it's even something that can be morally "solved", but for the most part he's right.

Am I going insane? Should I be worried? Or might it be that for once he has actually said something with some degree of intelligence?


As for the Obama interview, I thought he stood up pretty well, though Bill didn't exactly pound him with tough questions. It'll help his case towards rational people, but given Bill's semi-negative tone throughout the whole thing, the target audience of Fox News (people who like to be spoon-fed opinions) probably won't have changed their opinion on him at all.

I thought Obama did well. And I think the questions O'reilly asked were for the most part legit.

Obama did confuse me on one point. When asked about his plans for dealing with Iran, he responded that he did not want to tip his hand to the opposition by answering that question. Which is fine, except for the fact that he plans a 16 month time table for withdraw from Iraq. Would that not be considered tipping your hand?

I'm not critcizing him for that, I just wish he had clarrified what he meant. Of course O'reilly did not ask him about it so I don't hold that against him either. But other than that, I thought the interview went well.
