Here's what I don't understand: My family moved here circa 1900 from Germany. We didn't own any slaves and lived in Chicago. Why do I have to bear the institutionalized guilt of every White slave-owning family when none of my relatives had anything to do with it?

^Exactly. Though my (dad's) family is Irish and we moved in 1900 to Rhode Island. My mom's parents came from Italy in the 50s.

Technically, until you moved here after slavery and the equal rights movements/acts you could still be in that gray area of oppressing or discriminating colored people.

My mom's dad came to America in the early 1900s. They didn't own slaves and didn't discriminate being Polish and have been discriminated against anyhow and country attacked.
My dad's family were too poor to own slaves. They didn't own slaves. However I'm pretty sure they dropped the word "nigger" a lot.
