A lot more captivating than yours, I suspect. I'm sure if I was beaten half to death so you could sit there and be an internet tough guy I'd be talking it up too.

Who's trying to be an internet toughguy? I'm just talking politics with you guys. If you can't take an intelligent discussion without getting defensive and throwing out insults, well then, I see why you are Republican.

Seems like the people who sat on their ass collecting entitlements include you?"

I never said I hadn't benefited from the system. I obviously believe that society as a whole benefits from state sponsored education. And student loans are given with the promise to pay them back with interest. Last time I checked, food stamps, wic, welfare, etc weren't expected to be paid back. I'm not saying I don't want to help people...I just don't want to be the sole support to people that have no initiative to better themselves.

djeternal, I'm not a republican. But it does annoy me to no end when people bitch about hearing McCain's life story. Yeah, it gets brought up a lot, but it is amazing (to me anyway) to hear about how he endured that. I know I physically and mentally could not.

I think I am a lot more sensitive to this kind of crap now, with so many people I know in the military and getting sent overseas to whatever hell awaits. We forget what goes into the little things we take for granted. If we are having this convo in China, our corpses would be half covered with dirt by now.

sigh. i really hate arguing about politics. people pretend they are moral elitists or economic experts. or they just memorize esoteric facts about the other candidate they are biased against and regurgitate them with a sense of patriotism. everyone votes for issues that favor them. that's understandable. but what about game theory, a deeper analysis of what's best for the country as a whole? i don't like politics, not because i'm naive, but because of how it's played. i'm also a moral relativist.

OK, I gotta go to bed because SOME of us Democrats actually have really good jobs. But I will leave you with this (my last ditch effort at an intelligent synopsis), and I will not be here to defend myself so you guys can flame it all you want. Keep in mind I am a registered Democrat, but I consider myself an Independent. I am not certain who I am voting for, so i watched both conventions in their entirety.

I think the RNC both succeeded and failed on a couple levels. First and foremost they failed to re-introduce John McCain "the Presidential Candidate" to the country. You forget that a lot of Americans don't know much about McCain or what he stands for. EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER knows about Obama, because of the long race to the Democratic nomination and the 19 debates that lead up to it. But during that time McCain was out of the spotlight, and Americans as a whole (not just those dedicated Republcans who know his agenda) don't really know what his plans for the country are. In my opinion, the Republicans really dropped the ball with the RNC. They had 4 days to present "John McCain, your future President" to the American people, but instead the used those 4 days to tell his life story over and over and bash Obama. Bad move, and a horrible waste of valuable time. It wasn't until McCain's speech tonight that I finally learned his plans if elected, and several of them were actually quite good. They should have focused on those plans the whole week, in my opinion. It would have had a greater impact on swing voters rather than hearing what a war hero he is repeatedly.

Palin's speech was good. Delivery was good. Content was questionable, but it served it's purpose. The Republican Party and America can now be certain that she is legit. What will come in the upcoming debates remains to be seen, but for now the Republicans should count her VP nomination as a victory.

Giuliani was a joke. If he wasn't drunk, he should have been. His speech was like open mic night at Charlie Goodnight's. If I were a Republican, I would be embarassed.

Fred Thompson's speech was also good, but we all know he can throw it down.

Throwing all the shit-talking aside about "liberals are this...." and "conservatives are this.....", I'd have to say that the Republicans should have done better with this convention. Not only was Palin an unknown, but McCain was an unknown to a lot of people as well. I just think they missed out on a golden opportunity to show what McCain really stands for.

On that note, I am going to bed.

We need to call a truce dje. Sometimes the urge to troll gets the better of me. I don't care for Guiliani; Fred Thompson is ok but I prefer the first DA from Law and Order. I actually didn't watch too much of the convention b/c it does tend to get repetative (both parties). From what I've seen thus far, Palin seems to have come out fighting like a tiger. I don't agree with some things she supports (creationism in school, i don't really have a stand on the abortion debate), but I do think she is a good shot in the arm to the sometimes stodgy republicans. And how badass is it that she is in the NRA. Finally, another chick that doesn't get the vapors when guns are mentioned!

I just wonder what Hillary thinks about Palin. To be fair, I would have hard time picking b/w McCain and Hillary.
