mine tops out at 38-39mph

the newer ones top out at about 42mph

2-stroke scoots go faster, but horribly inefficient and polluting

49-50cc (like mine) are the only ones that are license/insurance-free...everything higher (and subsequently faster) require a motorcycle permit and valid insurance

gas is now and has been for a long time the equivalent of 5 USD per gallon here

[Edited on September 11, 2008 at 10:50 PM. Reason : everyone in town rusing to fill every car and gallon jug they have with gas is one reason it goes up]

I just filled up for $3.55/gallon. On my way out, the gas station was switching their prices to $3.89/gallon and most of the gas stations I saw on the way home were $3.89. My husband just called and said that he found another station that was still $3.55 and was getting gas. yay.

Make that $189 on gas in the past 2 days. I went to top off earlier and Climax had it for $3.61. Not too bad I don't guess. But there were lines at the pumps even in this small town at 9pm!

the Honda Super Cub ... I want one so bad! they're Honda's first motorcycle, started in the 50s-60s. The best part (besides the up to 150mpg)? They're 49cc so they count as a scooter and you don't need license/insurance.

i am gonna try to go play golf at eagle ridge today, so i'll get some cheap gas out in the fuquay/garner area... it really doesn't mean much to me though because due to the oversize gas guzzler i drive- i'm gonna be paying out the ass no matter how much it costs

wow if gas costs $5/gal, it's gonna cost $50 to fill up my itty bitty tank! I used to laff at SUVers who had to pay 50.

guess they'll be paying in the $100 range for a tank that lasts as long as mine though! laff

^^it's the course i play the most around here

just because it is one of the more difficult ones (I consider the preserve the hardest in the area) and it is really cheap if you have a student id (it will only cost 35 to ride today)

Quote :
"did you guys read my post"

i did...and while i think it will help fuel prices, i think this is yet another delay in accomplishing what we SHOULD be doing, which is reducing dependence on oil

i do think that the article underestimates the power of OPEC, saudis or no...at the same time, add the saudis' decision to the new brazil deposits and yeah, oil should go down

just when the states were FINALLY starting to make changes of actual value, it looks like we'll start sliding backwards into complacency and pathetic dependence on everyone else

i would LOVE to have one of these...i'm pretty sure, though, that the mileage is closer to 170, especially since they're now fuel injected

also realize that in NC, 49cc doesn't require a license/insurance, but you're still bound by the 30mph limit (which i've never really heard being enforced, but still)...and the cub tops out at about 50mph, IIRC

honda sold their 60 MILLIONTH cub this year: http://blog.wired.com/cars/2008/05/honda-sells-its.html and it's STILL not available in the states

let me reiterate - i would LOVE to have one

My dad told me he went to fill up last night in goldsboro and they were limiting it to $40 a person. He also said my mom called and told him she had a friend who worked at a gas station call and claimed they were authorized to go up to $5 today. Who knows how much truth is in that though.

where'd you go djeternal?

i was able to top mine off, and everyone else that i've talked to was able to as well. there's only one guy who wasn't, and he commutes from alamance county on 40 and ran into that out there.

i think the whole thing is hype. especially since i had no issue early this morning, even though they claimed i would on the wall street journal show on the radio.

hype/panic/chain emails/text messages/ZOMG DISASTERZ!, but I topped off at 3.85 anyway. First Hess had bags over certain pumps, I wait and wait and realize they're out of premium NOT regular (seriously?). Drive by Sheetz and there's at least 2 cars per pump. Figure I'm just gonna drive all the way to Shell after all because I'd rather use VPower anyway when I notice the proverbial "urban" BP station is a ghost town, bust in there and lol @ the 10 gallon limit sign.

^probably a 10 gallon 'request'. Did the pump really stop you at $10.00?

i just thought about how little 10 bucks is, i must have read it as gallons before.

last month or so i went in and prepaid some gas and got a carton of cigarettes. i forget exactly how much i ordered, but it stopped at 6 bucks. checked it out and the charge was right, the guy just heard me wrong

anyway it took like 4 seconds to pump it. ha ha

I really have to wonder if that was supposed to be 10 gallons at a time and he misread it at 10 dollars. Shiiiiit...with a $10 limit I'd have to stop at about 6 different stations to fill up. 19 gallon tank and premium only FTL...

I had 3/4 tank, but since I'm headed down to the beach tonight, I topped off on my way home yesterday. I think regular was $3.6x (I paid 3.94 for premium) at the 76 at Western/Method, but stations near campus are never cheap anyway.

What's strange about this is that gas prices never used to do this before when hurricanes came through from what I recall. If they did, it wasn't to this degree.

The sign at the BP I stopped at, 'requested' a 10 gallon limit. The pumps didn't shut off or anything.

I stopped at an Exxon between Greensboro and Burlington (off of exit 135) and they had one of those '10 gallon limit' signs up. No sooner had I finished pumping my 4 gallons of gas (yay motorcycle) some guy came around and placed bags over all the pumps.

it makes good economic sense to limit gas now... if the prices go up in the next few days, gas stations want to be able to sell more of their stock for the higher price.

I bet it was 10 gallons and the fucking idiots just read it wrong. Just got a call from a buddy who said the lines are like 8 cars deep at the Gate on Battleground, and it's $4.17 for regular.

^^^ How is that even remotely legal? They paid x for their shipment and you're saying it's feasible and legit for them to just sit on it and then charge x+$hurricane for it?
