oh god as if feb weren't bad enough, here comes MORE MINORITIES

"Are we assuming the audience for these advertisements believes that people from minority X are incapable of doing anything significant with their lives because of their race? There's no other reason to pander to their ignorance. If this were the case, we'd be better off educating people in the first place (in the public schools we're already paying for) that people of all races are capable of inventing things simply by making sure to cover all the bases as far as inventors and historical figures go. There'd then be no need to pander to masses of ignorant fools who believe race Y totally rules compared to race X because race X is filled with a bunch of flatheaded bottom-feeders that sleep with their sister."

The theory would be that Hispanic culture doesn't have enough recognition in this country. (Anglo culture, on the other hand, probably does.)

You also couldn't pound two rocks together with the aid of an instruction manual, so maybe we should get you an appreciation month and increased educational funding

But there are latin-american themed holidays already in place just as there are anglo holidays in place. Take mardis gras and st patrick's day as an example. We've got the time honored tradition of getting drunk and partying as seen through the eyes of two different cultures. While you are correct that people are ignorant of history in the context of minority inventors, figures, and historical events, people are also ignorant of history in general and probably couldn't tell you much about any inventors, events, or particular figures besides some of the obvious ones (like major american figures who were predominantly white). It's still a general failing of the education system that would be best remedied by greater standards for history education in the US (in public and private schools at all levels).

Never. It's not politically correct for whites to say anything positive about themselves.

You're kidding right? Yeah, you're kidding.

Whew, I'm so glad you're kidding and aren't really a huge piece of shit."

Not kidding at all.

I don't need a special fucking holiday for me to feel good about who I am. That said, if people want their special week or month or day or whatever, let them have it. No skin off my back.
