I'm not impressed by the couple fucking (though that guy was putting on quite a few good moves) but by the fact that there's people with enough balls/insanity to even produce such a thing let alone sync'd visuals and a musical score to match.

no, they became noticable around the time robot chicken and 12 ounce mouse were first airing. They're stuff is primarily aired late night on adult swim as far as I know. This is actually the first thing I seen them do on the internet solely. They're not even that big, sheesh.

nah, they just have a really unique brand of humor that sort of polarizes people who "get it" and those who don't just because it's so out there and so different from everything else that they don't really know what they're watching. a lot of it is really just absurd, and you have to approach it differently than just about everything else. they've said before in an interview that they really try to make people feel uncomfortable when watching Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job! to filter out the viewers who understand what they're going for while saying "fuck you" to the people who don't. i didnt really like awesome show at first, but it grew on me a lot.

not in terms of mainstream success, but between Tom Goes to the Mayor and Awesome Show they've had a ton of pretty well known actors and comedians. some of the names i can come up with off the top of my head are john c. reilly (who is a regular on their show), rainn wilson, patton oswald, zach galifianakis, steven spielberg, elisha cuthbert, john mayer, michael ian black, tenacious d, fred willard, weird al yankovic, david cross, michael cera, and probably a lot more i can't remember. i'm sure people who watched Tom Goes to the Mayor more than i did can think of others. eric wareheim has also directed music videos for MGMT and ben folds, so the two of them are actually pretty well respected despite being pretty unknown to most people.
