I'm not sure if there is any sort of correlation, but to my understanding the market has a certain ebb & flow to it. Basically what I'm seeing is that a few years ago the FED stemmed off a recession wrapping up from the Clinton era by lowering interest rates to a historic low. Obviously, lower the interest rate to almost nothing and people will buy just a 'little' bit more than they can afford. Housing markets instead simply raised the principle price of houses inflating their values. Banks wanting to capitalize on this gave out loans that they shouldn't have, and then sold off the risk to investment banks to make sure they were not stuck hanging. Let the cycle 'tock' and of course this was going to happen. Housing markets normalized as interest rates rose, and suddenly the true value of homes popped into the market - which now meant those 'kinda' bad loans were now 'REALLY' bad loans on collateral that was valued at much less than the loan amount.

Now why should tax payers have to pay a DIME for this? I have no idea. But I do see that cities like Detroit are strapped as almost 1/2 of the auto workforce have been laid off, and the trickle down effect from that happening nationwide would be devastating. All in all I hate the idea of this bailout, but the government is the sole entity with the capital and the creed to take on such a task and despite all the greed that will ensue this may be the only option.

Lastly, BARACK NEEDS TO GET BACK AND DO HIS #@)(*% JOB. TAKE YOUR BLACK @#)(* BACK TO WASHINGTON AND W-O-R-K AT YOUR J-O-B. 40 DAYS IS AN ETERNITY IN THE MARKETS YOU DUMB TWIT.

as a matter of fact, both Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi deferred to Obama today to lead the party in the West wing meetings with the President and senior Republican members of congress.

go fucking read something and get that bullshit off this system

it's not a bailout, it's actually an asset acquisition method for the gov't to buy assets that have been undervalued by the market (read: your mortgages)...

but the sensationalist media (eager to catch a headline) will pretend as if this is coming straight out of your pocket - even though the taxpayer may make money off of this in the even tthat these they have bought these assets on the cheap...

it's fun to play the Wall St vs Main St game cause Wall St is the evil that is being "bailed out" by the government, but who is not paying their mortgages? = Main Street, just because you make 50k/year and bought a $300k house (the "American Dream", made possible by "Wall St"), and Wall St repackaged these and sold MBS, doesn't take the fundamental blame away from America...
