I'm thinking of Amana. However, my examples still apply...

Is Xander, a nickname for Alexander, or is a stand along, too?

^ I don't know how it originates (probably as you surmised), but I like it as it starts with an X I like names with X or Z in them, and especially if they start with one of those letters.

I was just thinking of names of chemical elements. I looked through names of elements and came up with the following, grouped into reason for choosing the name (there is some overlap of course):

Meaning

Helium (means "sun")
Neon (means "new")
Radium (means "ray")
Rhodium (means "rose")
Rubidium (means "red"; we are all red inside)
Selenium (means "moon")
Zirconium (means "gold like")
Iridium (means "of rainbows"; apt because s/he will be a mixture of two races/skin colors)
Chromium (means "color"; apt because s/he will be a mixture of two races/skin colors)
Tellurium (means "earth")
Aurum (Latin for gold, means "shining dawn")

Symbolic/Characteristic

Carbon
Oxygen
Mercury
Silver
Osmium (densest element) ---> perhaps changed to "Ozmium", esp. since it is pronounced like that
Platinum (one of the densest and most expensive elements)
Iridium (most corrosion-resistant metal, and 2nd densest element)
Rhodium (most expensive precious metal; 5 times more expensive than platinum!)
Tungsten (highest melting point of all metals; one of the densest elements, as dense as gold)

Sounds good

Neon
Argon (but has a negative meaning: "lazy")
Krypton
Rubidium
Radium (from "rad", as in cool!)
Zirconium
Niobium
Argentum (Latin for silver)
Xenon (means "foreign, a stranger")
Tungsten
Chromium --> perhaps changed to Kromium

I also like:

Electra
Kevlar
Sapphire
Emerald
Electrum (alloy of gold and silver)
Constantan (alloy of copper and nickel)

Opinions?

Most of these names are some of the most pretentious, queer names ever.

This kid will get his ass kicked.

^ What does that mean and where is it from?

^^ Great idea! Threonine sounds nice. So do Arginine, Alanine, Leucine, Serine, Tyrosine, and Valine.

^^^ Well maybe I don't want my kids to be named Bob, John, Jack, Muhammad, or Abdullah. And which ones are pretentious? The ones on this page, or the 1st page as well? The ones on page 1 are actual names of people, so I don't see how they are "pretentious" or "queer" (what does that even mean?). And don't worry about my kid, s/he will be trained in martial arts/kickboxing, gymnastics, strength, and fitness from the age 3. S/he will be able to kick anybody's ass.

HAH

Good luck in about 12 or so years. But I guess controlling all those aspects of your kids life goes better in your part of the world.

^ You must be illiterate. You didn't answer my questions, and just said "HAH". And "controlling all those aspects"? WTF? All I said is that the kid would be trained to fight and be fit. Is that not something tens of millions of parents do all over the world? What hole are you living in? If the kid doesn't like it, I won't push it. GTFO with your arrogance and racist/classist overtones.

Wait, are you a parent? I don't think so. And you are giving advice on parenting??? That's like a retard trying to teach a person of average IQ. Your hypocrisy here is baffling and ludicrous.

And when did I say I knew shit, or that I got it all planned out? Don't put words in my mouth. I do know more than you do, but that's irrelevant, as is this whole conversation. As I said, you need help. I think you are not just an asshole, but a retard as well, without realizing it. Or perhaps you have Autism or Asperger's. Have it checked out.

No, I haven't started a family.

But you know, I do know about being a child. And I gain my lessons on parenting by observing my own parents. I've heard all my life other people complimenting my parents on how they raised me and my sisters, so I think they know what they are doing. And they've told me that they had no idea what they were doing when I was born (I'm the oldest), even though they thought they did.

I don't understand what it has to do with the deep South? BTW, it is "Sartorius", and is the name of the longest muscle in the human body. Is it a common name in the South?

Quote :

Wow, just wow. BTW, I missed out on such lessons because I was born deaf and blind. Or, I had such horrible parents that I didn't learn shit from them

Quote :
"I've heard all my life other people complimenting my parents on how they raised me and my sisters, so I think they know what they are doing."

Well they obviously failed with you... you turned out to be an asshole. Obviously, your parents and these "other people" don't know how you act when you can hide behind a screen. Either your parents failed, or you don't give a shit about their legendary parenting skills and so, tarnish them without them knowing about it. Your existence is an insult to them. (but only if they really were such good parents)

Quote :
"This thread, and a lot of your other ones, reek of your self-important attitude."

Yeah, asking about name suggestions means I am very important

Oh, and you are a blatant liar. This is one of maybe 4 or 5 threads I have ever made in 5+ years that is about me (and I don't think any were made to show off, but were threads such as this one). The rest have all been factual threads about nutrition, cars, weird news, science news, politics, etc. So I dare you to produce these threads I have made which reek of my "self-importance".

And you are one to [falsely] accuse me of making threads reeking of self-importance. Have you ever seen your threads, a lot of which DO reek of self-importance? You are unbelievably brazen and shameless.

Here, I will help you out:

message_search.aspx?type=topic§ion=9&username=chembob

By so shamelssly and flagrantly lying, you have shown yourself to be the worst of humans. Shameless, a liar, brazen, a hypocrite, a jerk, arrogant, and an insult to your parents, all rolled into one. I have nothing more to say to you, after you so gracefully showed your true colors. I can't believe anybody could be so horrible. Perhaps you are just a troll, in which case, you win.

Nowhere in my post did I say you didn't learn anything from your parents. I was speaking of my own experience and observation. That's all I've done on here. You don't have to give any weight to what I say. I'm just speaking my mind, and on that note -

I am the scum of the Earth.

To you I am shameless, a flagrant liar, brazen, a hypocrite, a jerk, arrogant, and an insult to my parents, all rolled into one.

What can I say? I'm a Yankee. Where I come from we value the voice of the individual, but we won't go out of our way to shove it down people's throats. We're rotten and backstabbing sons-of-bitches, yes. I think highly of myself at times, yes. I won't get far in life thinking otherwise, and neither would you. But yea, I do try to be humble, much as you'd like to think otherwise. People who know me would agree.

But, please, don't insult my family or their honor. I thought someone in the Middle East would know better than that.

Cassandra was Trojan (a daughter of Priam, sister of Hector, cousin of Aeneas). She actually resisted being loved by Apollo (i.e., she rejected him, he raped her, left her with her "curse")

If you want a unique name
you might as well nix Sophia or Isabella
It's in the top 10 most popular girl names right now.

Everyone I know is naming their kid those two names right now.
they are pretty names, but super popular.
