i used to shop at HT but their prices have gone up so much, their quality of their produce has gone down, and they don't run as many sales as they used to.

i started shopping at kroger on wake forest road. totally worth the extra 5 minute drive. they have a whole organic section and their protein bars are always on sale. items are significantly cheaper at kroger. while i wouldnt mind a lowes food downtown, i'll definitely settle for kroger.

The $1.80 bottles of coke at Harris Teeter are better quality than the $1 bottles at Food Lion and Bi-Lo?

I shop at HT 80% of the time. Largely because about that much of my total grocery shopping time is done around 4am and it's the closest store to me

and while it is a little pricier, It's also just a nicer, cleaner store with way more options and a better selection. And the fresh meats, breads, and produce are better. Then again I live near the new one in Cary which was built to please that demographic, so I suppose I'm really talking about a specific store more than the company itself.

But I would shop at whole foods above all if it were closer to me and open later/24 hours

i'd rather take my chances with lower quality food than pay those high prices

i guess if i was absolutely loaded and already had my dream boat, car, truck, and house and still had money to burn imy hired grocery shopper would shop there.

I shop at HT for produce. Rather, if I'm going to HT, it's usually because I need produce.
The Kroger by me (timber and 70) has got the worst produce department I have ever seen. While I'll occasionally see bad produce at HT, it's even more rare to find good produce at this kroger. I went in to buy romaine once, and the best head was browned and wilty. The other were slimy. Broccoli? They either have none, or it's mostly brown. Berries are almost always moldy, and it seems like every time I buy oranges, if I don't eat them that day, they have mold the next.

I'll only buy produce there if I intend to use it the moment I walk through the door when I get home.

^^

The grocery store within walking distance of my house in Philly was like that. I could never find any produce that wasn't already moldy or rotten in the store.

I went to HT last night after a long absence and I wanted to gouge my eyes out. The parking lot is a clusterfuck and everything is like 150% markup from foodlion.
