same here. with my red light ticket, i went to court...explained my situation to the DA or ASST DA what ever she was and asked for a reduction to something on the lines of not obeying a city ordinance but she wouldnt budge one bit so i asked for a continuance and got a lawyer (my PJC isnt up until NOV 16ish)

I still can't believe he actually wrote you a ticket for unsigned registration. That's some petty shit right there.

i guess its for quota reasons... i dont know.... ive never heard of anyone not getting a registration ticket like that, or an inspection ticket NOT dropped.

but yeah. those are pretty lowsy tickets. if its your first time, just go without a lawyer. look nice and go early.

Hah, I got a ticket for the exact opposite thing.

A car cut me off without signaling as I merged onto 540 one day. This person continued to cut me off in a dangerous manner by rapidly changing lanes without signaling at a speed well below the speed limit. The driver did this no less than 4 more times in a row. They did it every single time I tried to pass them. I finally got around the guy and proceeded on my way.

10 seconds later I see a Morrisville police car tearing through traffic like a maniac just to get up to me (I was going the speed limit). He rides my ass like a lunatic for about 10 seconds and then blue lights me. He asks me why he pulled me over and I say I don't know.

He goes "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW CLOSE YOU WERE FOLLOWING THAT CAR?"

So I said, "wait, you mean the guy that cut me off without signaling 4 times in a row?"

He goes, "YEAH."

So I said, "uh, I was pretty close to him considering the fact that he cut me off without signaling over and over. I'm not sure how I could have prevented that."

So again he goes, "YEAH, YOU WERE PRETTY CLOSE."

Then he comes back with a ticket for "following too closely," and says "I'm letting you off on the speeding, but you're being ticketed for following too closely."

I had to hold myself back from saying anything about that speeding comment.

So I go talk to jackleg's lawyer and he says, "so, how bad was the damage?"

I'm like, "what damage?"

He says, "you know, the car you hit?"

I then explained that I didn't hit any cars. So he proceeds to tell me he has NEVER seen this ticket given to someone who didn't actually hit the car they were following too closely and that obviously this cop was out to fuck me over hard. He said that this charge is nearly impossible to get dropped and that of course it can't be reduced.

ha not always true esp if the person in front off you pissed of the da.... ive seen them give fines and not dismiss registration... all depends on their mood and your record

hell ive seen a da dismiss a charge because he couldnt communicate with the spanish speaking person.. dont COUNT on anything...

ha yea had you called here the first questions i would have asked you after seeing your charge would be was there an accident, or i might just skip to is your insurance company paying the damages and can you get us a copy of the letter. we would have charged you $100 less too if there was an accident

ive never seen exceeding a safe speed, or following to closely not involve a wreck.. what a crappy ticket

morrisville cops are assholes. three years ago i was driving in morrisville about 8 or 9pm at night. i was going the speed limit +/- 2-3mph. A cop who was coming the other way on the road nearly slams on his brakes as I approach him and he proceeds to pull a u-turn and gets behind me. I continue to drive on my way and make my turn down this dark winding road (koppers?) and then look behind me and he is nowhere to be seen. However, as soon as i turned onto morrisville-carpenter he appears out of thin air and pulls me. asks if i know why, i say no. my tags were expired by a < 1 week. homeboy looked in my car with his flashlight as he walked away with my license and registration. 15minutes later he comes back and gives me my shit back and a warning ticket.

G.S. 20-146(D)(1)
OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE ON A STREET OR HIGHWAY BY
MOVING FROM THE DEFENDANT'S LANE OF TRAVEL WITHOUT
FIRST ASCERTAINING THAT SUCH MOVEMENT COULD BE MADE
SAFETY

That's my charge, which I think is ludicrous considering I told the officer that I placed on my signal, checked my mirrors twice, and then moved to my left since there was over a car length and a half between me and the car to the left of me.

What's really annoying is this is not a charge that can be reduced, it is either guilty or dismissed. I'm not in the mood to risk (up to) four points on my license and the insane insurance rates that comes along with them.

James Crouch gave me a very fair rate and a reasonable belief that this would be an easy situation to resolve especially considering there was no accident (this charge is typically only given if there is an accident). What was funny was when James asked about the situation he was stumbling because there was no accident, he just couldn't believe the officer (R W WYRICK, JR #2914) would give the charge.

On a further note, it appears Officer R W Wyrick, JR #2914 has a known history for being a jerk, especially to those under the age of forty. A friend who works at a bar downtown has been pulled by him twice on her way home to Wake Forest for "swerving in their lane". Then when the friend asked for a breathalyzer he attempted to make her do a field sobriety test and stand on a leg that she said she couldn't do due to knee surgery. Both times she had to ask repeatedly for the breathalyzer and only after threatening to sue for harassment did he allow her to take one. Both times he made her blow in the breathalyzer about six times because she "smelled of beer" even after she showed him her employee ID from the bar!

sounds about par for the course for a traffic cop.

i've gotten ticketed for that. i was doing about 25 mph in an Evo at the time, too, and wasn't really even very close at all (i mean, considering we were driving 25 fucking mph)

that attitude pisses me off. i don't know where people get this idea that cops know a goddamned thing about driving a car simply by virtue of being cops...not to mention the fact that they are almost NEVER driving anything with any performance capability whatsoever.

Cops are people and make driving mistakes just like the rest of us.

It is impossible for anybody to know ALL the traffic laws, we just try to abide by the obvious ones.

you received a registration ticket b/c the cop probably knew you would go and fight improper lane change in court. With the unsigned registration ticket he pigeon holed you into to having to pay at least one of the fines (at least without a lawyer).

B/C with all those petty tickets that get dropped by the DA (invalid license, registration, inspection, etc) you could just go to court with the valid copy of any of them and get the charges dropped. However now if you go into court and try to plead not guilty to the lane change charge, they will simply say by fighting that we will not be able to help you out with the unsigned registration ticket.

Same shit happened to me a couple years back. Cop pulls me over. My license was one day out of date. He said he heard my music playing (i have a factory system in my car) and gave me a ticket for invalid license and noise ordinance. I went to court to fight the noise ordinance ticket and they basically told me they wouldnt help me out with the license charge if i plead not guilty.

Def has to be a practice they is taught to officers. Can't hit them with something big, hit them with a couple of ticky tacky things so the city will get some money somehow

Same shit happened to me they would not drop my inspection ticket unless I pleaded to no operators license (my license was erroneously suspended by the DMV without me knowing). I ended up paying like $300 to James crouch to get all three charges dismissed.

that shit happened to me

fortunately, i wasnt pulled in the 6 months that it was suspended before the letter came to my house

i guess that they assume you are going to drive anyway and will send the letter when they get around to it

oh and just dont talk to the cops...it is the safest option

speak for yourself

i try to abide by the reasonable ones--which is really more of a respect for the benefit of using common sense than giving a shit about any traffic laws.

I've called lawyers around the bed, most are hovering around the $300 mark, one sent me a letter for $200.

I'm going to speak with that lawyer directly because I want to make sure for $200 he can get it dismissed and not use my PoJ or anything else.

i've never been convicted of a felony or sentenced to jail or prison. and i used to have a pretty evil streak.

my lawyer is better than james crouch. crouch isnt that bad really, but he is known for representing douchebag college kids and he doesn't get the respect he deserves.

You dont need to sign your registration, you dont even need to keep it in the car. You certianly dont need to give it to the cop, contrary to popular belief. Do keep your license on you though and give that to them. I always tell I cant find the registration, to go ahead and run the tags it will come back to me- knowing of course they have already run the tags, they have the information they want from you and they cant cite you for not signing the registration.
