Why in god's name are you driving around in a V8 powered 944 then? Do you have a speed limiter installed on that car? If not, why haven't you installed one since all cars need it so badly?
One other note, if you'll recall what I asked, it was if you think that all cars should have an 80mph top speed. That actually doesn't imply that I think all cars should be able to go above 80mph.

maybe he wants to get to 80 faster? 10/8/2008 9:44:53 AM |

Let him answer that son. But in case you're wondering, he wrote this in the "what's the fastest you've ever been?" thread:
Quote : | "140. And that was before the engine swap
I can get to 140 a helluva lot faster now, but until I get that 951 tranny, my ratio's are holding my car back After the tranny upgrade, the car will be able to go 180+ at redline (calculated). I dare not take that on public roads.
LT1 944" |
So no, he doesn't just want to get to 80mph faster. Thanks for playing though.

I've only been 140mph (indicated) once, but that was with the 2.5L I4 (and conditions weren't such that anyone other myself and my consented wife were involved at the time). The fastest I've been in since the swap is 120, which I did when I first got the swap. Don't get the wrong idea, it's not like I do this on the regular, or even every now and then. I've driven over 7k miles since the conversion. I've gone up to 120mph 3 times, no more. Yeah, I like the power to accelerate fast every now and then. But don't get it twisted, it's not like I try to see how fast I can get up to speed limit all the damn time. I've already stated my reasons why I've done the swap, look it up in the forums. Don't be a politician and take other things I've said either out of context or twist it to fit your agenda.
And yes, I hope to track this car after I fix it up. That's where the ability to go faster and the reliability will come in handy. No, I don't have a governer or speed limiter. I don't need it because I simply haven't gone faster than 80mph in a while, nor do I intend to. I already know what it can do so there's no need to push the envelope anymore except on the track. I'm my own governer.

I have no agenda here btw, you're the one that wants to change things. My agenda is to point out that you're not innocent of exceeding the speed limit, massively at that. See my post in the "what's the fastest you've been?" thread.
Note that such a limiter will not necessarily be able to just be turned off on the track. Sure, the GTR can, because it fucking knows exactly where you are at all times, but I doubt your basic car will.
How will the SHP feel about your limiters? Those limiters may cut into their revenue from highway speeding tickets.

^haha. my bad, I just took your post the wrong way. I don't care to change things at all imo. I like seeing/discussing topics like this just from different points of view and taking one side to see how far I can get with it. Oh and I don't think very many people are truely innocent from speeding. I'm not denying it, however, I'm not the typical sterotype either.
Anyways, I still think SHP won't mind. They can still ticket people going 75 in a 65, or at the 80mph governor in a 70mph zone. On top of this, law enforcement can still ticket people for speeding in a lower mph zone.
Keep in mind, this will take years to phase in, if it were to succede. I mean, there's still many cars out there that are capable of higher speeds. As long as those vehicles are around along with people with the need for speed, SHP will be happy with the ticket revenue. (I'm sure they'd be happier if they didn't have to baby sit roads though too, if you disregard the financial aspect of such operations...)

Imagine if they make cars intelligent enough to force you to never exceed the speed limit on any road. It's easily "doable" considering that rental car computer that ticketed you via gps. If you fed that info into the ECU, it could have a variable speed limiter that would never allow you to exceed the speed limit on any road. God damn that would suck.
The SHP would DEFINITELY hate that shit.

^ Oh yeah. I totally agree with you on that.
And I honestly didn't know anything about that rental car gps crap until now... wow... I thought they would start doing this one day, I was just hoping it wouldn't be in my lifetime
Old cars ftmfw (so long as they don't require you to convert to the current technology as part of passing inspction... )

Did you miss the part where this is all configurable by the owner? Dear god son, READ.10/8/2008 7:37:56 PM |

Noen, i think you're missing my point and not full understanding my position here. what we're disagreeing on is a matter of opinion of what the future will bring. i, nor anyone else, is being retarded for simply not agreeing with you. i guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on what impacts this will have on society and government, and wait to see what happens. neither one of us can accurately predict the future, only speculate.
i'm not disagreeing with you on it being a good idea in theory or any of the existing statistical data on other safety devices, so i don't know why that's even still being discussed.
as for the costs, it doesn't matter that the technology/capability of doing this is already in place. that doesn't automatically make it free. at best, it only makes it much cheaper than had it been something developed from scratch.
i understand the concept of free market perfectly, and i'm not saying this should be suppressed all together. my primary and only concern is it becoming standardized across the entire market and/or eventually becoming government mandated. nothing more, nothing less. 10/8/2008 7:44:57 PM |

I'll throw that "Dear god son, READ" statement right back at you. I was NOT talking about this key in particular, which is clearly configurable by the owner because you can simply USE THE OTHER FUCKING KEY from my understanding.
I was talking to shmorri2 about his statement that said "NO CAR SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO OVER 80MPH."
SO YES, DEAR GOD SON, FUCKING READ BEFORE YOU CORRECT PEOPLE WITH YOUR PETTY BULLSHIT.

Actually, if it becomes a federally mandated feature, and ubiquitous, it will essentially become free. The same way that airbags and safety belts are essentially "free" items as standard equipment now, except the actual cost is much much lower for these technologies, because they are already a party of the ECU.10/9/2008 12:28:35 AM |
