the kubota is only 20 hp, but it is fairly fast. as far as the 4wd and zero turning radius is concerned, it is something in the rear diff that allows the wheels to turn in opposite directions(or keep one wheel from turning depending on degree of turn) at the same time. kubota calls it glide steer. 10/15/2008 3:52:36 PM |

^yeah, i understand how it would work since i've driven j.d.'s zero-turn tractor. however, the front wheels were castors so i don't see how it could be 4wd since the front wheels would have to pivot. 10/15/2008 7:29:25 PM |

is that rolling diameter? typical l&g 23" tires are about 21.5 rollling diameter, and 22" tires are at 20.5"
Basically you have the equivalent of a dana 35. It works fine for most people throughout the life of the product, but for those guys that put on big aggressive tires and drive the shit out of it will most likely fail.
If your yard is mostly flat, you can get away with it. Its hills and pulling heavy objects that will kill them. 10/20/2008 8:59:42 AM |

the WHITE was semi ressurected this past weekend. got it cleaned up a little, started it for the first time in 2 years, and took it to my parent's place at the beach where it will now reside. still needs a little tlc from being neglected so long, but nothing major. so, i'll be in the market for a replacement soon. hopefully i can find a winter deal on something. 12/3/2008 6:02:26 PM |

someone asked about zero-turns with the deck out front. I spent several summers on one and hated that shit. mowing fields and shit all it was good for was getting the clippings into the wind just soon enough for you to drive through them.
like this
it was a diesel and had 1 joystick instead of the normal 2 bars. the joystick wasnt great for straight lines, especially if you could manage to doze off on the loud ass thing like i could. 12/3/2008 7:33:55 PM |

It's so damn easy to service my little Deere and you don't even need any tools really. Wish it were easier to keep it clean, although in her defense she does see a bit more mud than your average unit. Hopefully I have finally located the perfect tire to replace the turf tires, and if all goes as planned getting stuck will be a thing of the past. 2/11/2009 8:38:12 AM |

We sell a "posi" for that transaxle as well, PN 1A646031700. Its a Hilliard unit that replaces your final drive gear. You can order it through http://www.tufftorqservices.com
It comes in the K46CR (you may have to find it using this model). 2/11/2009 9:45:59 AM |

Carslile Tru Power FTW! 23x8.50-12, a little narrower so had to use some tubes to get them seated but holy fuck the thing is damn near unstoppable now!
Old turf savers:
New cleats:
Diameter worked out perfect too, couldnt be any bigger and not rub the deck when it swings back and forth.
Got em on and went right back to the hole I was stuck in for the above photo, drove into it, stopped and drove right out. It never spun, never hesitated. As far as damage to the grass goes, I only notice it after I have been doing wheelies. 2/13/2009 8:11:12 AM |

they arent backwards dammit! they are directional, clearly marked, and properly installed. should i decide I am tired of hearing about it, it takes all of 2 seconds to flip the wheels, but you know that.
now tell me how to change the fluid in this transaxle, it hasnt broke yet and my 1yr is almost up. 2/13/2009 12:50:41 PM |

The downside is definitely front suspension, or lack thereof. I get so much traction in the rear now that its sooooo easy to plow the front wheels insead of them actually turning the tractor. That seems to be the only way I could get stuck now, if that happened and the rear tires just dug and dug.
Anyone here use a dethatcher? Will it get all the sticks out of my grass? 2/25/2009 7:52:50 AM |

we used to use a dethatcher sometimes at work. it'll pull the sticks up to the top if they're embedded in the grass or something, but you're still gonna have to go around and pick them all up.

joel, why not just buy an ATV (or hell, an old 3-wheeler...you could get one for a few hundred bucks)? You could pull shit around the yard with it, and let your mower just be a mower.
then you could go take it offroad somewhere and go raging with it. 10/25/2009 4:26:00 AM |
BigBlueRam All American 16852 Posts user info edit post |
his mower is more than enough to pull around what he needs to. he's got a nice big lot, but not acres upon acres to maintain. besides that, i'm convinced half the shit he does isn't 100% neccessary. kind of like a kid and his tonka toys. 10/25/2009 2:56:12 PM |

well yeah, i figured that. i'm just saying that I would rather spend $400-500 for an old Big Red than put mud tires on a lawn mower.
then your lawn mower would still have turn tires, and you'd own a 3-wheeler.
or spend $1000-1500 and get a 4-wheeler. 10/25/2009 3:02:42 PM |

bro.....they're on backwards.......look at tractors.....the only reason the rock crawlers put them on that way is because they have a much higher chance of backing out of a mudhole if they get stuck..... 10/26/2009 2:08:50 PM |
