i have to say.... if I run into some money in the next few months (Christmas bonus, anyone?) I might take the plunge on the new display. I already need a new external display (airline f'ed up my current Dell monitor), and I really like the integrated features, like the magsafe, USB, speakers and iSight.

I think the DDR3 is a big feature lol, surprised I just figured it out from reading this thread.

I still don't care for the black keyboard and am so-so on the glossy black screen bezel. Seems like it just doesn't fit the overall design and doesn't look as sleek as the old macbook pros.

The Macbook Pro has always supported dual DVI support for monitors such as the 30" beast. But i don't think that is quite what you were asking.

What about the heat? That's been the single issue keeping me from buying a MacBook for two generations. Can you actually use it on your lap now? Will it melt anything it touches still?

my mb pro has never had a problem getting too hot unless you use it on a down comforter or something for a while during pretty hard use then put it on your lap

Yes, this has always been an issue. but so long as I'm not using it naked on my lap...its never been hot enough to 'melt my skin' through my clothes. But it does get pretty hot...in some spots (the frame right above the keyboard especially and right below the screen hinge) gets almost too hot to the touch. Every where else on the laptop is fine.

but personally it hasn't been an issue big enough to keep me from owning one. Hell my 17" HP monster used to get just as hot and it was made of shitty plastic.

Its nice that the macbook is now a semiviable option now. Its now built right and has passable graphics. I'm still not sure that i could live w/ a 13" though.. hrmm that plus a cinema display...

My Early 08 15" Macbook Pro stays at a fine temperature doing email and websurfing. But if I'm watching a movie or using VMWare Fusion for too long, i start worrying about my future ability to have kids.....

My wife's 1st generation Intel MacBook (white plastic) stays relatively cool, though

Two finger rotate
Three finger back/forward
Four finger expose/dashboard/app switcher (I suppose you'll probably be able to change this in the preferences)

all are insanely fucking cool.

every picture of the new laptops on apple's website, and videos makes me lol. even they have reflections and glare from the glossy screen. that would drive me crazy.



my powerbook was very cumbersome for me to ctrl + click and still is unless I use the modified touchpad firmware or an external mouse. good job on accessibility, apple. i hope the new touchpads are better

ummm.... yeah. That was the entire point of the new touchpads.
You can't even compare the PowerBook touch pad to a last-gen MBP or a 1st gen MBA, much less the ones they released today

for real, i've only messed w/ the current 2 finger stuff, but its very slick and works effortlessly. from what i've been reading the clickable trackpad and four finger stuff is quite intuitive as well.

I love my glossy screen on my early 08 MBP, which still has a plastic covering.
The new ones have a glass covering, but apparently the LEDs are so bright they can overcome some of the glare

i've seen some stupid shit on here before..but you can't be serious. Yes there will always be glare and reflections BUT those images don't have real glare and reflections...that white gradient you see is digitally rendered. LOL. Ever wonder why its the exact same gradient in the exact same spot in every single iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, iMac, Macbook, and Macbook Pro image? come on now...this is elementary graphic design tricks for glass effects.

you do know that went away with powerbooks which was many years ago, right? thats like bitching about apple having a one button mouse for desktops when they actually have a two button mouse thats been out for quite a while.

when applecare ran out on my first gen (core duo) mbp, i took it apart and redid the thermal paste on the gpu/cpu heat pipe with arctic silver... you wouldn't believe how much cooler it runs now.

sorry, i dont like apple enough to go out and buy every new model that comes out. as ive said before my powerbook is going on 4-5 years old, and that particular model's ctrl+click scheme isn't good for me. since im in the market to replace my aging laptop and would consider another apple laptop, i simply stated that i hope the new touchpads are better than the model I have.

quit trying to read through the lines and pull out an argument that isn't there.

right, i'm wanting to use two external 22" displays with MBpro. I still use a 4 year old 17" powerbook + one external display, but if i buy a new one, i'd like to drop down to a 15" but then would like to have two larger displays. My old T23 from several years ago could do this, but it's silly that no apple laptop supports this (without expensive third party hardware)

the stubbornness comes from the people that think its dumb to have an intuitive trackpad that can detect between left and right mouse clicks. You don't need a visual aid of a second button to know how to right click.
