Lots of these people eat better than some of us with real jobs.
I want to be a welfare queen so I can finally buy as many chips and salsas as I want.

I would like for the people spewing this welfare nonsense to research just how much welfare pays an individual on average, factor out rent, food, and utilities, and then take that figure...
once you have that figure, please underline it and directly beneath, state "these welfare people make more than I do"
just for shits and giggles 10/14/2008 1:42:39 PM |
jackleg All American 170957 Posts user info edit post |
i dont think you can get real welfare unless you are severely disabled or have lots of kids. "the man" feels bad for kids...
but healthy adults can get 172 bucks a month in food stamps and a 50% off bus pass
you can't just "live" off welfare 10/14/2008 1:57:36 PM |

not a lot of food at all actually.
I'll humor you all. Let's say you are a woman with a kid on welfare. Depending on where you live, you would be lucky to get around $170 a month in food stamps and $250 a month in cash.
you can't live on welfare alone. it's crazy to assume that people on welfare sit at home...laughing about using your tax payer money for toilet paper. I bet many of them work too, or are desperately trying to find jobs. they just happen to qualify for govt. assistance. 10/14/2008 2:06:46 PM |

sure its a decent amount of 99 cent frozen pizzas. not really gonna cover all the food groups 3 times a day.
and people cant really store perishables under the bridge where they live
i'm not saying they don't help people, im just saying they don't support people.
period. 10/14/2008 2:07:27 PM |

not to mention there are still tons of working people living in poverty that don't qualify for welfare but are still "low income" families. i'd imagine that would also suck.
but this is america. they should probably just work harder or something. live the dream. etc etc.

I work with a girl on welfare. She took her family to Disneyworld twice in the past three years.
I know a girl from home on welfare. She lies about living with her boyfriend and doesn't claim any of her income so she gets more of that government cheese.
I know this is anecdotal evidence, but it's still infuriating when you're trying to make ends meet harder than these people are.10/14/2008 6:26:19 PM |

How are you trying harder to make ends meet? I mean, you work as a cashier. Why don't you get a job that requires some actual skill?

Money is worthless if you can't stand the day in day out at work... I didn't like what I was doing so I quit and went back for my masters in exactly what I want to do...
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed not working 8-5 for the past year and a half and I have set my start date so I have 6 weeks from my last exam until my first day of work to do whatever the hell I feel like...
I'm either going to drive across the country like I've always wanted to do, or build a dresser and chest of drawers... first one would involve debt but it's something I won't ever have the chance to do again. 2nd one I can do at any point especially as a hobby, but it's free and it'll be nice to work on it full time instead of just when I actually feel up to it after working a full day.
But I'm interviewing for the exact jobs I've always wanted to do right now and it's looking really promising...
Life is what you make of it... involves a lot of hard work to get exactly what you want... 10/14/2008 10:30:22 PM |

for me the hardest part has always been knowing what i want. 5 months ago when i took this job, i thought as long as i had stable well paying job that would be enough. while the money is nice, it really feels like an 8hour chore that i get no fulfillment out of what so ever. but i'm treating it as a just a place holder until i find something more interesting. looks like that may take a while with the economy in the tank.
but the plan is to get a motorcycle soon. when i find a new job, i'm going to put as much time between my last day at my current job and the start date of the new one and do a backroads tour of the country on the bike. realistically, i don't know if it will ever happen, but at least its a plan. i've at least went ahead and got my motorcycle endorsement as an early first step. 10/14/2008 11:38:31 PM |
