Thanks Pat...

Was there really any other team in baseball that could have been neck deep in a fucking Ponzi scheme than the Mets after the last three years? I mean seriously, they might have been the hardest hit organization by this fucking guy Madoff. Shit, it wouldn't surprise me if Carlos Beltran handed over his entire salary to this clown...

I know, people will say the Mets still have the highest payroll in the NL but they would have been the frontrunner for ManRam without Madoff.

I know its wrong, but I'm praying for Castillo to get hit by a bus before spring training starts.

I don't want him to die, just to be on the DL for the entire season so that the Mets can pick up Hudson without it being a waste.

Or better yet, he should get hit by the spring training bus...

[Edited on February 6, 2009 at 3:18 PM. Reason : looking for my bus keys so I can drive to Florida and wait]

I will be in NY for Part I of the Subway Series. I'm going to try to get tickets but unfortunately its at the new Yankee Stadium. I'd much rather see a game at Citi.

Oh boy! Grapefruit league action starts tomorrow...

Prediction for season: Beltran will be be big, Pelfrey will develop in to a second ace and we win the NL East by 5-7 games.

From my mouth to God's ears.

^^ I've had it for a long time and anyone who knows me knows I like both teams (though always Mets first) and why... don't feel like explaining it again

Murphy is going to have a ROY season...other than the fact that he had 30 too many at-bats last season to count as a rookie now

There's no crime having a favorite team in each league

Sometimes you have to, since they feel like a different game sometimes

Now in my case, some would say liking the Mets and Yanks is like liking both UNC and Duke

and you'd be kinda right, but fuck you

I know that spring training results usually don't mean much, but the fact that the 2 Mets that have the most to prove to the management and fans, Church and Castillo, combined for 7 RBIs today is a fantastic start.

No, because they aren't competing with each other in the rankings. Liking both South Carolina and Clemson is a better comparison to the Mets and Yankees. But liking the Mets and the Red Sox (which a lot of fans do out of mutual hatred for the Yankees), is like cheering for both NCSU and UNC-Charlotte...geographically close with a game every once in a while but the games don't effect conference records.

Time for the Mets to go buy Manny. Can't out pitch em, might as well try to out hit em.

Honestly, I'm more of a Philadelphia hater than anything else...

Here's the deal. My Mom is from Boston and a Red Sox fan. My girlfriend (who I've known practically forever) and some of her family is from Boston and Red Sox fans. There are two reasons why I like the Sox too... but it's ALWAYS Mets first.

"I believe Jose Reyes will bat leadoff, followed in order by Daniel Murphy, David Wright, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Ryan Church, Brian Schneider, Luis Castillo and the pitcher."

Haven't seen a whole lot of Murphy as he had just 131 ab's last year

but everything I've heard about him in ST seems like he is looking really good thus far

Anything to get Castillo to the bottom of the order

Hitting 2 in our lineup is tough in that you have to take pitches to let Jose run, but you're going to get a lot of fastballs in front of Wright and Twin Brother Carlos

I hope the young kid can handle it

My memory of Dan Murphy from last year is him hitting the leadoff triple in a tie game in the 9th against the Cubs deep in September last year... and then David Wright striking out on a ball like 3 feet outside the strike zone when all he needed to do was put the ball in play.

As long as we don't have the same kind of injury situations we've had the past couple of years, I'm expecting this season to be better than 2006.

Quote :
"The Mets, who apparently are showing real interest in newly available slugger Gary Sheffield, sent two scouts to watch him throw in Tampa on Thursday, and a person close to Sheffield told SI.com he believes Sheffield prefers the Mets to the Phillies due to playing time concerns. The Reds are the third team that's showing interest so far.

"The Mets told him, 'You deliver, and you'll play,' '' the Sheffield confidant said.

Sheffield's agent, Rufus Williams, told the New York Daily News that Sheffield is most interested in whichever team will provide the most playing time.

The Mets have shown interest in Sheffield at various times in the past but always wound up backing away. The Mets' interest in Sheffield was first reported by the New York Post and Daily News.

The Mets are planning to start Daniel Murphy and Ryan Church as their corner outfielders but apparently are giving more hope to Sheffield for playing time than the Phillies are. The Phillies told Sheffield their plan was for him to be a strict backup, no surprise considering they have Raul Ibanez and Jayson Werth manning their corner spots.

If the Mets sign Sheffield, Fernando Tatis would also lose playing time. The Mets like youngster Nick Evans, but want him to play every day in the minors.

Sheffield, who is former Mets great Dwight Gooden's nephew, would bring some power, but he was released by the Tigers after hitting .178 this spring for them following his .225 average last year (and only 19 home runs in 431 at-bats). An acquiring team would only be obligated to pay the pro-rated portion of the $400,000 minimum, while the Tigers are obligated to pick up the rest of Sheffield's $14-million salary."

he's so bad defensively that i wanted to suggest he should be a dh, but his line last year of .225/.326/.400 makes me question why he thinks he should be starting anywhere to begin with

I'd like to see him in a platoon with Murphy or Church, but he would only get about 1/3 of the AB's that way, and that probably wouldn't be enough for him

plus we have Tatis who is decent against lefties

not sure where he fits in where'd he'd get 400 AB's

The quest starts today, and I'm feeling great about it.

Johan Santana's ranks during 2004-08
Victories 86 First*
ERA 2.82 First
Winning percentage .688 First
Strikeouts 1,189 First
Opposing batting average .215 First
* tied with Roy Oswalt

lol we're blacked out of nationally televised Reds games here in Charlotte since we're considered part of the Cincinatti Market

We're also blacked of of Braves, nationals, and orioles games

what a fucking joke

we get the game here on FSN Tennesee, with Reds announcers and no HD

lets get this first RBI David

it might be all Johan needs

Damn that swing from Beltran looked good. That's a 3-run homer in some ballparks.

btw, Johan looks like he slimmed down from last year. Either that or my HD makes him look thinner.

Thats a 3 run homer in most ballparks if its June and sunny

Cincy is a hitters park in every sense of the word, but the weather neuters it significantly
