Lotta less-than-wholesome country songs out there. But it is funny that they don't mention hip-hop. Perhaps there's a separate rule that prohibits association with any sort of non-honky entertainment. 10/27/2008 3:59:33 PM |

Liberty isn't all that bad.
I had a couple of friends go there, and unless you live on campus (or invite RA's to your place on a regular basis) they won't know about any of rules you potentially broke. 10/27/2008 4:19:16 PM |

This is a hard concept for you State students to comprehend, but some people actually go to a school to study and prepare for their future. If you take away distractions such as smoking, alcohol, drugs, porn, and provide standards for dress and behavior, you might actually pay attention to your educational pursuits.

holy crap the abortion is only 3-400 and the fine is $500, talk about draconian.
It also does not say if the fine is customarily paid by the male who knocked up the female or the preg female or if the two can agree to split it.10/27/2008 4:35:34 PM |

^^ Nah man, it would be much better for you to isolate yourself from everything and anything that might possibly be destructive so that you are completely unprepared to deal with those things when you hit the real world. But hey, at least you will have made good grades!!!

well some people are just naturally good at getting fucked up AND doing well in school. i call it multitasking. it might be a skill or just a god given talent. and i'm not ashamed of what god gave me. i think BJU would encourage me to use my talents.
plus what is this "you State students" ??? i'm pretty sure BJU's admission statistics are not that spectacular. and what future are they preparing for? salvation? sweet.
found this gem on a message board thingy about admissions at BJU:
Quote : | "Getting in is not a complicated process. It's about the same as most schools. Have a decent ACT score (I think 18 is the min. requirement) and high school GPA. Do not apply if you do not profess to know Christ as your Savior. If you attend BJU as an unbeliever, or even as a carnal Christian, you will be miserable." |
plus i read some other shit about a lot of homeschoolers going there...and that is just whack.10/27/2008 7:33:58 PM |

i went to a really crazy bananas religous middle school
we used a lot of bob jones text books.
many people who ended up sticking around there and graduated ended up going to bob jones b/c it was about the only school that would accept the transcripts and shit
i could tell you some interesting things about that school
like how one day in class we were stood up and told a scenario
where we all were in a concentration camp and lined up in front of a firing squad
where the teacher proceeded to walk up to each kid and ask if they believed in jesus, with the knowledge that if you said yes you'd be shot.
sometimes i think it's interesting that i made it out as normal as possible 10/27/2008 7:42:01 PM |

One of the group homes I lived in was like this.
We'd get fussed at if we read the Bible in church (since that meant we weren't listening to the preacher). Pants weren't allowed in church. I suspect the only reason we were allowed to wear jeans at all is because they were forever making us clean or exercise (one of their favorite methods of punishment). We were always lectured at for being whores and spreading our legs and being unholy sinners who needed to learn that you can't spite god through misbehaving. To put this in context, most girls were 14, and I think the eldest was 16.
But, as I've posted on here before: these are the same people who felt low self-esteem was a discipline problem. And their methods of discipline were exercise, prayer, and writing sentences over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. I think once I was assigned to write the same sentence 5K times. I never did. It got so boring I'd get in more trouble just to get outside to go run laps. I didn't give a damn whether they made the other 11 girls do so or not (it was one of those positive peer pressure deals, with the thinking that the group, if punished as a whole, would pressure the offender to behave, except I kind of broke their model in ways they'd never seen before )
Oh, and that I had to have been possessed, because what else could explain my behavior, when I had such loving and devoted parents? They were used to dealing with detached, missing, or abusive parents.

just so we're clear, drinking a beer and sexual assault carry equally weighted penalties.
i went to high school and church with a guy that ended up at liberty, if i'm not mistaken, he went to grad school there too. nice kid, really smart. turns out he ended up being a youth minister and part time parole officer. so my sister sends me a link to a news article from a couple of years ago, turns out homeboy was using his position as a parole officer to intimidate adolescent boys into performing sexual acts with him during church sponsored sleepovers at his house.

I'm glad you brought this up, because for some reason, this thread has gotten all the way to here without ANYONE bringing up the fact that Bob Jones U. wasn't even accredited until 3 years ago. Even then, their accrediting body is based not on academia but theology.
So technically yes, "those people" DO go to real universities 10/27/2008 10:07:33 PM |
