then why exactly do you dislike when oil companies make money? how exactly are they "fucking Americas in the ass"? if its not because you're looking for someone to blame, i really don't know why you have such an issue with a company that provides a needed commodity making profits

Quote :

i didnt mention anything about anyone being liberal until you chose to mention how you hated "conservative douches"...i'm just not going to hate on a company or industry for making money and i honestly think its funny that some of you do...redirect that anger to something that actually makes a fuck instead of lashing out at big companies and being jealous of them

i mean shit, you live in brooklyn right? get a metro card

I just think it's funny when people get everything handed to them and have zero accountability for their job performance, and then point fingers at others laughing at their misfortune.

You have no right to talk about personal accountability, responsibility, or hard work -- you work for daddy's company. You'd have to take a dump on his desk to get fired.

I'm not whining, I'm doing just fine. Better than you in fact, as I'm subject to evaluation of my performance and must compete with others.

Who would've thought I even beat you at conservative values

One of the funny things about when I post on TWW is that people think I'm stuck up or "elitist"

Just because I think you assholes are by and far stupider than a pile of dog turds doesn't mean I think I'm a genius -- Just a heads up.

Besides I don't complain for my own sake, but for others who are less fortunate than me. I'd think you'd be able to think of that too seeing as how your father has handed you literally 100% of your support.

I sure don't see them breaking their necks to up refining capacity though....when refineries slow or stop due to a natural disaster they do become the ones restricting supply, and that's when we see the biggest price spikes.

iirc, consumption in the US declined over the previous year for the first time ever.

Then you are not looking. Most companies only own a handful of refineries, any one of which eliminates a large portion of their revenue with almost no benefit. One more refinery would not dramatically lower the crack spread but it would dramatically improve one firms bottom line.

As such, if a refinery stays down it is because they cannot be brought online safely.

To reiterate, refiners do not set the price of gasoline and the vast majority of the current record profits are a product of their oil extraction business which pockets every dollar of every barrel of oil they produce, not their refining business.

You clearly don't understand, Str8--

The fact that I make $75k/yr for posting on the internet has nothing to do with the fact that my daddy's name is on the front of the building. Nothing!

I was the most qualified-- what with my degree in like, whales, or something.

Quote :
"Though oil refinery productivity in the United States has been improving, the number of operating refineries has been dropping steadily. In 1982, the earliest year for which the Energy Information Administration has data, there were 301 operable refineries in the U.S., and they produced about 17.9 million barrels of oil per day. Today there are only 149 refineries, but they're producing 17.4 million barrels – less than in 1982, but more than any year since then. The increase in efficiency is impressive, but it's not enough to meet demand: U.S. oil consumption is 20.7 million barrels per day. Refinery capacity isn't the only factor in the price of gasoline, and according to the EIA it's not the most important one either (that would be the cost of crude oil), but it's certainly a contributor. Existing refineries have been running at or near full capacity since the mid-1990s, but are failing to meet daily consumption demands. Yet there hasn't been a new refinery built in the U.S. since 1976. The EIA recorded per-barrel profits of $5.29 in 2006; at that rate, the 150,000-barrel-per-day refinery would need to operate for almost 13 years before its profits outweighed the cost of building it.In short, the reason for not adding more refineries is straightforward: It's hard, and it's expensive. The reason that we have so few in the first place is more complicated. In the 1980s and 1990s, there was a surplus of refining capacity. Then, over the course of two decades, half of the plants shut down. In 2001, Oregon senator Ron Wyden presented to Congress a report arguing that these closings were calculated choices intended to increase oil company profits. Fewer refineries means less product in circulation, which means a lower supply-to-demand ratio and more profit. Wyden's report cites internal memos from the oil industry implying that this reduction was a deliberate attempt to curtail profit losses. The economic pressures of oversupply could have led to plant closings even without a more calculated decision, of course. In 2005, the head of the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association testified at a House hearing that the rate of return on investment in refining averaged just five and a half percent from 1993 to 2003."

i sense some jealousy in this thread.....

Str8Foolish, just because treetwista is doing well for himself, regardless of the circumstances, is no reason to bust his balls.......it just makes you sound like an envious little dipshit who's angry because he had less fortune. How about instead of whining about it, you take to do better for yourself.....

oh yeah, and did anyone mention that there is enough competition in the oil/gasoline market to keep prices in check???................so quit thinking that all the CEO's get together and arbitrarily decide on a price for a barrel of oil

You lack context.

I'm doing quite fine for myself, in fact. The reason why I bust Twista's balls is because he criticizes poor people for "being lazy" while he's basically the laziest fucker on the block. He has no place to talk.
