Why would he leave one bball school for another? He's waiting for a real football school to come knocking... Say, one like ND...

UT is a not a basketball school

They do have strong programs and an elite women's team but it is still, by far, a football school.

thats just crazy also. the next job he takes will be at a big time football school where he isnt playing

second fiddle to another coach / sport

It really is just great to see unc fans disappointed. That is right up there with satisfaction of taking a huge dump.

powder orange by itself is different than a solid BROWN or DARK GREEN with an orange accent

he said hed be fine with unc's blue if he could have DARK BLUE as the forefront color (but we've all heard that it would be too much like duke)

you fucking kidding me?

UT has MUCH more money (allocated to throwing at football coaches) than UNC

UNC wouldn't pay Mack Brown

and they won't pay Butch

simple as that.

I wonder what kind of affect this will have on UT's recruiting class this year. It's a pretty strong one, I'm sure there's dozens of other coaches waiting to pounce when the news of Fullmer and his staff's firing is announced.

That's a valid point.

Though, I'm sure these recruits are aware of the situation surrounding UT for the past few years. Fulmer getting fired has been a real possibility. IF they get a coach in place right after the regular season before other coaches can poach their recruits, they'll probably be fine.

that was 10 years ago. They learned their lesson now. I bet UNC athletic department has more money than UT athletic department. Basketball is the real money-making sport. The only reason I can see Butch leave is that he knows he will always be second-fiddle to Roy.

UT officials understand that winning football is the fuel of their financial engine.

A few losing seasons, and T-shirts, ball caps and bumper stickers with the ubiquitous orange "T" stop selling as briskly. Disgruntled alumni could stop cutting big checks. Ticket sales could dwindle and multimillion-dollar payments from major bowl appearances could dry up.
That would be a doomsday scenario with repercussions far beyond the football program — one that university officials arrive at work every day fighting to avoid.

Football Is King

Football took in more than $23 million in ticket sales last season. By comparison, the men's basketball team, which had its most successful season ever and sold out most of its games, earned $5.4 million. Those are the only two sports at Tennessee that consistently turn a profit.

The ticket sales — and tens of millions more dollars earned through merchandising, television rights and other revenue streams — support every other sport at UT and generated enough extra cash to transfer more than $18 million since 2001 to the school for nonathletic spending, like paying for a parking garage and a dorm.

To further illustrate the football team's economic power, consider one relatively minor income source. UT made $60,000 just from selling copies of its football media guide to fans last season. The combined ticket sales from the women's soccer and volleyball teams brought in less than half that.

Even the dynastic Lady Vols basketball program, which this year won its eighth national title under coach Pat Summit, is financially touch and go.
"Women's basketball has a chance to break even or make money each year," UT Athletics Director Mike Hamilton said. "The other sports, except football and men's basketball, do not.

Say UNC sells out all 15 home games at the Dean Dome with ~ 21,750. They would have 326,250 people pass through.

Say Tennessee sells out all 7 home games at Neyland with 102,037. They would have 714,259 people pass through.

Now tell me who has more money, and which is the real money maker.

and people dont tailgate for bball like they do for football, you dont have people paying the University a small fortune to park near the stadium/arena, people arent walking around all day buying stuff at the university bookstore etc.

while football generally always brings in more revenue than basketball, there are a ton of schools that lose money on football. the costs associated with fielding a team are much, much higher than basketball - so if you're not in a BCS conference and don't have a very good team, chances are football in and of itself is unprofitable.

We all want to see Davis go, but why not just bring Cutcliffe back to UT. The offense has been the big problem for the Vols this year, so Cutcliffe could help on that front.

Also, he should be able to recruit just about any QB in the country with the pitch "Hey, I coached the Manning boys."

Well if Cutcliffe were to go to Tennessee, then there is the mindset that they wouldn't get any new blood into the program. He'd probably hire people that once worked with him at UT. I think if UT were to get rid of Fulmer, then they'd want someone fresh that could bring a new mindset to the program.

I'm a little saddened by all of this. Fulmer is a great coach and won a national championship at UT. He won the SEC East last year and played LSU very tough in the championship game last year. Hell he's got a street around the campus named after him.

UT could get Butch if they want him. IF they want him.

You are all dumb as shit if you think otherwise. Why did Butch leave Miami?

MONEY.

What do Kool-Aid drinking SEC football programs have a lot of?

MONEY. ESPECIALLY in Knoxville. SEC fans and boosters will sell their children, homes, and life savings to get a good coach.

Butch was a mediocre Game-Day coach at Miami. He recruited an NFL team, but couldn't keep his staff together and made bad decisions. We are already seeing hints of his staff's incompetence. Withers for example.

A lot of hype surrounds Butch Davis. He is charismatic, he takes credit for Miami's success, and he happens to coach at a media darling school that wears Kotex-blue uniforms.

But Tennessee does not want Butch Davis. Because they are smart. The specter of Butch's swift departure and lies at Miami and his meltdown in Cleveland have not yet left the minds of a lot of people. Not to mention, Butch will come with a high price to match his huge ego. And its simply NOT worth the cost. We will have to endure Butch Davis, but don't believe the hype.

Look for UT to go after Boise State's Chris Peterson. Great recruiter, disciplined teams, great exciting offensive scheme. He will be the Vols' savior.

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Tar Heel fans are so retarded. Just go to CarolinaBlue.com. I'm not saying our fans are better, see PackPride for example.

I avoid scout.com messageboards like the plague. My brain hurts every time I look at PackPride.com or InsideCarolina.com

But the CarolinaBlue messageboards are full of so many Wal-Mart UNC fans that went to schools like UNCP, UNCW, and Lenoir-Rhyne (sp?) and mock NC State for being "Moo U".
