Last i heard it was scheduled for release in October. Originally before all this happened it was planned to be earlier of course. I think at one point they had said May but last I saw was October. I'm looking forward to it as usual.

man, that is good news, I was starting to think he wouldn't ever recover...I'm sure it was that time I was drunk and donated $25 to his paypal fund that did it

can't wait to hear the new one, I actually like this new direction they've taken

haha thanks.

In an interview with Chino this week, Noisecreep released this tidbit of information:

Moreno told us that the yet-to-be-titled new Deftones album will come out April 27th and will be more reminiscent of early discs like 1997's 'Around the Fur' and 2000's 'White Pony.' The songs were written and recorded quickly, Moreno says, and the musicians were on fire as they grappled to come to grips with Cheng's accident.

Also, some similar information:

Although Deftones had already tracked a full album of songs with Cheng and producer Terry Date tentatively titled 'Eros,' they decided to shelve those recordings and work on an entirely new batch of songs with their friend Sergio Vega filling in on bass. They hired producer Nick Raskulinecz to work with them, and in just two months they had recorded an entirely new album. "I honestly think it's one of the best, if not the best records we've ever done," Moreno said. "My favorite record is 'Around the Fur.' It was written and recorded in four months, which was the fastest, easiest and funnest record we've ever made. This record totally has that feel to it."

what was so bad about s/t? I enjoy both those records (though they are my two least favorite of their LPs), but tend to enjoy s/t more.

I was really disappointed in s/t when it first came out following up white pony, but after I got over that I think its a solid record.

well let me be the first to say i really dig the new single. i have liked everything these guys have put out over the years....some more than others but they continue to be a band from my youth that have mantained a sound i enjoy and i can't say that with a lot of bands.

yep, spot on. I'll have to wait until the whole album drops to weigh in on it, but I'm sure there will be several songs that I really dig. I still think his vocals sounded better on the first few albums. The last two they have seemed a little too drenched in effects, but this single gives me hopes that it will be another fun album.

yeah sounds like a little weird chorus effect or something on it....i agree about liking his vocals more on the first few albums but his voice has always had a soothing effect to me. some call it whiny or whatever but i think it usually fits perfect with their musical style. yeah obviously we have to wait to hear the whole album to give it the proper treatment but the single has me excited at least....

I love the hell out of the first 2 albums and moments of White Pony.

I first saw Deftones live in '95 at a tiny venue with the line up: Korn, Deftones, and Orange 9mm

My three friends and I consisted of about ~200 people there.

just gave rocket skates my first listen...

sounds like they are throwin it back to old school (or at least going for that)....thats a good thing. love adrenaline and around the fur. a lot of my friends thought white pony was the beginning of the decline of the later albums, but i fucking loved White Pony.

sounds like they are playing in drop B. could be wrong...

The hat I got when I bought white pony is all stretched out now, sucks (mainly because it is still my main hat 10 years later haha). Anyone try to install to elastic in a hat before?

I bought a different white pony hat from the same brand last year but it doesnt really fit the same :/

haha yep. I was so pumped to go get that record that day. The limited edition ones had "The Boy's Republic" or whatever as an additional song. I still think it is weird that they re-released the album again with "Back to School" added, and as the first track. Its a decent song, I just have to force it to the end of the track list in itunes because it just doesn't fit in with the rest of the album imo.

I've also considered getting the pony outline as a tattoo before. Never followed through though.

Yeah I like "Back to School" as well, and agree that it doesn't fit with the theme of the album.

A song that I've always liked was the hidden track on Around the Fur, I think titled Damone.

yea definitely.

If we can ever get our next record out, there is a section on the 2nd to last track of the album that I pretty much wrote as a tribute to the deftones being such an influence. If only we could have gotten chino to do some guest vocals Maybe I'll post up the clip before any vocals were added tonight.

cool thanks for the diamond eyes preview link.

I chopped out a clip section of that song that I was wrote as a tribute to the deftones for ya and uploaded it here. Sounds kind of weird by itself since this is without any vocals and it is from the middle of a song, but I think you'll hear the deftones influence.

First track off the album "Diamond Eyes" can be found here along with an interview with Chino tacked on to the end of the track:

http://www.mediafire.com/?woggtijjgtm

I *love* the chorus of this song. The main killswitch engage-esque feeling riff gets a little repetitive though. That slightly troubles me since Rocket Skates is awesome but the main riff in that gets a little repetitive as well. But hopefully they have just released a couple of the "straight forward" tracks first because I like the more meandering, progressive sound a lot of the stuff on say White Pony had.

With that aside though, I enjoyed the song and love the chorus.

The album leaked last night after midnight. Sorry, I don't have any links here because I am at work and I can't get to the sites that would have that stuff but you can probably find it if you want to. Hopefully I can find it when I get out of work today tho! (Luckily I am leaving early too). Deftones and Dillinger Escape Plan new album leaks within a week = awesome.

Im not very good at writing music reviews, but anyway, listened to the whole thing twice now. I feel like this is some of the deftones best work. To me its a blending of around the fur and white pony, very ambient and melodic at some moments, yet brutal at others, sometimes within the same song. So far, I give it a B+.

Album definitely feels like it could be a bridging album between Around the Fur and White Pony. My only complaint is that a lot of the stuff feels very straight forward. The album is a very solid rock album, but they don't throw you a lot of curve balls like I am used to with them. But it is still a very good album.

yea its solid. I think its cool that they went really natural with this album and wrote it fairly quick. I still would have liked some of these songs to be expanded upon a little since they all have some really great ideas.

Either way its a really good album and definitely brings me back to the original sound I loved them for.

Latest setlist I have seen posted broke down like this:

Diamond Eyes - 7
SNW - 0
S/T - 3
White Pony - 5
Around the Fur - 3
Adrenaline - 3

Interesting that, unless I missed something scanning the list, they played absolutely nothing off of SNW. It was pretty cool to see birthmark, 7words, and root on their list!

Also, most people are taking this website: http://blackdiamondskye.com/

to mean that Alice in Chains, Deftones, and Mastodon will be touring together this fall.

The site is registered to Velvet Hammer, who manages Alice in Chains and Deftones.

http://whois.domaintools.com/blackdiamondskye.com

So this looks pretty likely. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Looks to be an RBC Center or Walnut Creek sized show. The Downtown Amphitheatre is too small; it looks like the smallest venue announced so far is 7k.

those are some pretty big venues. I know AIC is on a second wind so to speak and Mastodon is gaining more and more popularity everyday but i hope they are not going to ambitious with this tour. I will be there regardless but hopefully to packed out crowds.
