There's a lot of morons in classes that don't know how to circulate an attendance sheet. I've seen sheets passed every which way and someone always gets left out. Granted, it's required and she should have tried to find it after class.

When I took Geology with Dr. Kimberley, he did attendance with both signature and scantron sheets at the front of the room. Easy way to make damn sure someone either signed it or they didn't. I did forget to sign it a couple of times when I came in late, but he always gave me the credit when I asked.

i'm pretty sure most professors/TAs do this. if you have like 10 prior absences, then no. but if you have 0 - 4 or whatever they probably just think you didn't get the sheet, or maybe you were absent but if it was 1 time and you've signed the sheet every other time, who cares.

Cut the student a break. This seems over the top to make this one absense that big of a deal. In the following class make it clear to the whole class if they do not sign in by whatever chance they WILL be counted absent, no exceptions. Proceeed with the semester

you need the clickers like they had back in the day in physics, use them to answer questions, and takes attendance from assigned remotes, i went in once a week, grabbed three and two of my friends did the same, we always answered wrong, even on the easy shit with graham's though

All of these classes share the same syllabus, with some minor adjustments as to TA's and Professors. How each class takes attendance is up to the professor. This attendance policy was drilled into the class the first day, and reinforced the following classes.

No idea what you're talking about, but no one in my class has plagiarized anything to my knowledge. Although, someone 'plagiarized' part of my resume into theirs for the assignment...

I've let it slide for many students when they've backed up their issue and/or were nice about it and wanted to talk about it, and also times when I noticed the person was in class so I would mark 'OK' by their name. This person did nothing to help their cause, along with blatantly lying about it. I did mention it to the professor and he supported my decision. At the end of each class we annouce 'did everyone sign the sheet'.

This student has already gotten one free pass for an assignment which counted way more than one free absence. If missing another class becomes an issue, then I'd probably push to complete the optional assignment which replaces an absence before giving another free pass.
