i moved down here when i was 4...have very few memories of living in ohio...i consider myself a southerner
11/11/2008 8:20:24 PM
^ I'm from southern Maryland and people consider me a northerner, which kind of makes sense, but it's still below the Mason-Dixon line.I moved here when I was 16, so I'm seven years removed from that culture.

11/11/2008 8:33:59 PM
i wasnt born in NC but i consider myself a native and a southerner, but im ready to get the hell out of NC
11/11/2008 8:35:30 PM
a native?if you are not born somewhere, you are in no way, shape, or form a "native" of that place
11/11/2008 8:36:21 PM
unless you're like Hank Hill and your parents were on vacation or something of that nature when you were bornlike i consider people born to military parents overseas to be natives
11/11/2008 8:37:25 PM
jeebus christ
11/11/2008 8:38:00 PM
I DON'T FEEL VERY SOUTHERN
11/11/2008 8:38:11 PM
^^well, where were you born and at what age did you move to NC?we'll let tww decide your "native" status
11/11/2008 8:39:07 PM
parents from NCparents moved IL so my dad could get his doctorate, SIU was paying for him to go theremoved back to NC when I was 2
11/11/2008 8:41:23 PM
I like sweet tea. Does that make me southern?
11/11/2008 8:42:01 PM
I was born in Raleigh, my mom's from NY, dad is from Fuquay.I like to pretend I'm pretty southern when I'm around northerners, but try to distinguish myself and look down upon really southern people when I'm around them.
11/11/2008 8:43:24 PM
^^^in this case, i would base my decision on the southerness of your parentsresults: plausible

11/11/2008 8:46:36 PM

11/11/2008 8:47:50 PM

11/11/2008 8:51:07 PM

damn, it's just koolaid with a different flavor^well hell, maybe i'll just consider myself a millionaire. i mean, i don't fit the definition, but i can consider myself that.[Edited on November 11, 2008 at 8:55 PM. Reason : ][Edited on November 11, 2008 at 8:55 PM. Reason : edit my edits]
11/11/2008 8:54:06 PM
so if you werent born a millionaire but inherited several million dollars at the age of two... you wouldnt consider yourself a millionaire?
11/11/2008 8:57:31 PM
i see what you did there
11/11/2008 8:59:25 PM
^^you and me both know that's different. it's about the definition.a millionaire is someone with $1,000,000+. if you don't have $1,000,000+, you're not a millionaire.a native of X is someone who was born in X. if you weren't born in X, you're not a native of X.

11/11/2008 9:04:20 PM
i caught a 28lb catfish, does that count?
11/11/2008 9:07:20 PM
^^^ So what should someone who grows up somewhere call themselves then? And under the dictionary definition of "native" a "local inhabitant" can consider themselves a native anyway.[Edited on November 11, 2008 at 9:10 PM. Reason : ]
11/11/2008 9:09:11 PM
^do what? everyone grows up somewhere^^nope, northerners do that shit all the time.
11/11/2008 9:10:35 PM

<--After a year in Philadelphia, I refuse to move north of the Mason-Dixon ever again.
hey y'all
11/11/2008 9:14:18 PM
i don't get it. if you have lived here since you were 2, why wouldn't you call yourself a native of nc? or be able to say you're from the south. or whatever we are arguing about?
11/11/2008 9:14:25 PM
11/11/2008 9:18:25 PM
^^haha internet... srs business
11/11/2008 9:20:28 PM
haha, i was mostly just trying to make you defend your southern status. you gotta fight for it and earn it.FREEDOM AIN'T FREE, ETC.
11/11/2008 9:22:02 PM
i seem to remember another time when a group of people were fighting for their southern status and losing...besides... i dont have to defend my southern status, i own property in NC and VA, and my entire family (aside from real immigrants who moved to NC and stayed until they died) was born and raised in NC and VA. i'm southern, deal with it
11/11/2008 9:34:29 PM
born and raised in good ole' Raleigh.Rex hospital C/O '83lived here all my life. and proud of it. wouldnt move for anything, well except for a job or school
11/11/2008 9:35:38 PM
Well I've grown up below the Mason Dixion line, so I guess by definition I am a southerner.
11/11/2008 9:36:14 PM
a "southerner"?if you are not born somewhere, you are in no way, shape, or form a "-er" of that place
11/11/2008 9:40:13 PM
Born and raised here also....WakeMed C/O '86

11/11/2008 9:49:11 PM
I was born in Wisconsin but I grew up in NCI consider myself a southerner
11/11/2008 9:50:08 PM
I consider myself a Southerner.Born: Greenville, SC15 mo. old: moved to Holly Springs, NC3 yrs. old: moved to Garner, NC10 yrs. old: moved to Siler City, NC.When people ask me where I am from, I tell them "Siler City", but I wasn't born there, and will probably never be considered "from there" by the people that WERE born there. I don't live there now, but I would move back in a heartbeat if I could convince my wife.I love Smithfield's Sweet Tea, Eastern NC barbecue, hunting, fishing, NASCAR, country music, and all the other stereotypical southern stuff. But I like hockey too
11/11/2008 9:58:23 PM
Born in Wilson, and raised in farm country, Edgecombe County, NC. I am a died-in-the-wool Southerner, but to be unmistakably honest about it, I thoroughly and utterly despise white trash rednecks. Having been surrounded by them for most of my life probably has something to do with that mindset.
