motion to fast track the bill did not pass, senate calls a special meeting next wednesday to discuss the bill and come up with a better solution.
11/12/2008 10:54:38 PM
Better solution = toss the idea in the trash.
11/12/2008 11:10:49 PM
There will be three or four committee meetings before next wednesday to attempt to propose an act that is worth a damn.
11/13/2008 12:26:20 AM

11/13/2008 12:26:40 AM
They should force the kids to take diversity training and a bunch of humanities classes taught by liberal professors.

I dont think their current proposition is legal.."OCR has recognized that theoffensiveness of a particular expression, standing alone, is not a legally sufficient basis toestablish a hostile environment under the statutes enforced by OCR.""Some colleges and universities have interpreted OCR's prohibition of 'harassment" asencompassing all offensive speech regarding sex, disability, race or other classifications.Harassment, however, to be prohibited by the statutes within OCR's jurisdiction, must includesomething beyond the mere expression of views, words, symbols or thoughts that some personfinds offensive. Undcr OCR's standard, the conduct must also be considered sufficientlyserious to deny or limit a student's ability to participate in or benefit from the educational program. Thus, OCR's standards require that the conduct be evaluated &om the perspective ofa reasonable person in the alleged victim's position, considering all the circumstances, including the alleged victim's age."[Edited on November 13, 2008 at 10:18 AM. the act as it is probably wouldn't be voted in, which is why it was sent to committee. something needs to be done, but not that
11/13/2008 10:13:08 AM
Sweet, look at what my alma mater is known for. http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/11/13/shocker-racism-and-hatred-of-obama-still-lives/Only 4th on this list to reactions to the Obama victory! We SHOULD have been #1, but you know, we're the fucking wolfpack

11/14/2008 9:06:57 AM
WE RUN THIS SHIT WITHOUT RACIST WORDS
11/14/2008 9:11:41 AM
haha, the university issued a statement essentially saying they can do absolutely nothing because they didn't do anything wrong. Awesome. Maybe the bill will die in committee since the university already has policies against said actions.
11/14/2008 12:17:53 PM
I wish I was there to vote it down
11/14/2008 12:21:44 PM
11/14/2008 12:38:50 PM
I guess a statement telling you to kill "that nigger" is just expression, not a threat right. I mean who would ever want to kill a "nigger?" Especially at a place like NCSU!?
11/14/2008 12:41:20 PM
the free expression tunnel is serious businessalso, all NC State students are white rednecks in the KKKactually ALL SOUTHERNERS enjoy killing black people for funbtw painting KILL GEORGE BUSH in the tunnel wouldnt even make the news[Edited on November 14, 2008 at 12:44 PM. Reason : .]

^^If the tunnel had a bunch of militant black people painting "kill the white people" after Obama lost, you don't think it would make the news?I wouldn't defend them at all eitherYou're pathetic[Edited on November 14, 2008 at 12:46 PM. 11/14/2008 12:46:12 PM

Anyone who supports any action being taken for this incident is an idiot.Any action taken against these students should result in an immediate law suit from the students. The law is actually quite clear in this case, and the students should easily win.Hell, even that fucktard Paul Cousins can figure this out, which is why no action has been taken yet, and why no action will be taken (unless Oblinger is even more of a spineless coward than I originally thought).
11/14/2008 4:38:46 PM
for every action....
11/14/2008 4:39:53 PM
^^ I doubt it. The University can suspend and expel students for improper conduct. What would their lawsuit entail?
11/14/2008 4:40:54 PM
If someone would have spray painted this shit about George Bush, they would be crowned the king of chit chat.
11/14/2008 4:49:59 PM
Are you serious? The State of North Carolina (NCSU acts as such) established an area on campus for the exact purpose of free expression. To then punish students of the university for using the area for its designed purpose is illegal and unconstitutional.Further, the issue of free speech vs. hate speech doesn't TECHNICALLY come into play here. No one would be willing to pass legislation that stated that use of the n-word equates hate speech - there are too many songs and books that include the word that would be affected. So, the laws are written that if someone utters hateful speech because of someone's race, creed, or religion, it is hate speech. It could (and probably will) be argued in court that the phrase, "Shoot that [n-word] in the head" is neither hate speech nor a threat to the President-elect. Rather, it is a desired result. Now, if the graffiti had read, "Shoot Obama in the head because he is a [n-word]" well that's clearly a different story. Same thing as if it read, "I'm going to shoot that [n-word] in the head." That is a direct statement of what one person intends to do.Again, it may sound like hair-splitting, but this shit happens all the time with first amendment law cases.Bottom line, there was no crime committed, and the students have already been punished more than what is necessary. Any further action can, and should, result in a law suit.I still think that if the university had done nothing, this would not have been a big deal. Of course, that would not let Chancellor Oblinger do everything in his power to ruin our reputation.

HE'S RIGHT YOU DUMB ASS METRO BITCH SON.
11/14/2008 4:55:01 PM
Well, again, not to split hairs, but that particular phrase does seem to be more of a command or directive than a requested result.

NOT A CRIME, SAYS THE SECRET SERVICE. I THINK THEY WOULD KNOW
11/14/2008 7:22:32 PM
^ The SS never said that, they said the kids "weren't a credible threat" (obviously) to our president-elect. They made NO judgements beyond that on whether it was a crime. It was the RALEIGH police that said the "vandalism" wasn't a crime, and the mere words themselves can't be a crime. That doesn't mean however their actions didn't violate UNIVERSITY policies.[Edited on November 14, 2008 at 7:25 PM. 11/14/2008 7:25:15 PM
oh, I thought I read somewhere that SS passed judgement.oh well, I'm just trolling and trying to stir the pot
11/14/2008 7:29:25 PM
are we nazis now, calling it the SS?</history joke>
11/14/2008 7:30:58 PM
^^ I had a high school teach that was a former SS agent (he protected Bush 1 and I think Reagan) and he actually went in to the laws pretty detailed for us. The SS would only have gotten involved as far as scaring the kids a bit, beyond that they know 99% of people that threaten the pres are full of shit. From there, it's out of their hands.
11/14/2008 7:32:37 PM
Considering the fact that the NAACP buried the "n-word" last year in a funeral, I don't think they can now say that it's alive again without committing heresy.
