Why would they? At best right now, there's a little more than a mouse's fart worth of moisture projected with that trough.

Quote :
"But a good chance of significant snowfall will come Monday evening with the arrival of an upper-level disturbance from the Midwest and area of low-pressure from South Carolina. A winter storm advisory starts at 9 p.m. Monday and expires at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

"This little bundle of energy that is beginning to develop here across the Mississippi Valley is going to cruise across South Carolina, grab a lot of moisture out of the Atlantic and pull it back into North Carolina on top of some cold temperatures," Gardner said.

"The key is we should have enough cold air in place and enough moisture coming into bring some snow to the area."

A mix of rain and snow will start to fall Monday evening and quickly change to completely snow overnight and continue on Inauguration Day.

Snowfall of at least 2 inches is predicted, with 4 to 6 inches possible in some spots."

This is a joke right? Snow in Charleston?

When was the last time it actually snowed in Raleigh. I'm talking a decent snow, not a snow that has a bunch of grass blades sticking up out of it. There was that awesome one back in 2000. I can't think of a decent one since.

There were at least two snow events per school year in Wake Co. when I was a kid. Seems like it hasn't snowed at all in the past 5 years - or if it did it was a sub 1" dusting.

I would rather have an ice storm that has snow on top of it. As long as the power doesn't go out in my apartments.

I hope we get some in Charlotte. More than a few inches would be nice.

I just like the direction we are going with this storm. normally they come out a couple days early saying that we will get 4-6" of snow, but by the time the actual day rolls around they reduce the forecast to a "light dusting"

this time around, they were saying yesterday that we werent going to get anything because the Low pressure system is offshore. Now the Low is moving inland and snow is in the forecast. Hopefully, the low keeps on moving and we get a FUCKING FOOT

storytime

me, pilgrimshoes, and toemoss saw a bunch of kids playing in the parking lot by bragaw as we were walking back from the store. they had found a patch of ice in the handicapped spot and were using it as a little skating rink. one of them proclaims: "this is the slickest patch of ice on campus!" right after that, a girl kinda rushes/lunges onto it, only to immediately slip backwards and clock the back of her head. it was a comedic/worrysome moment for all those involved. the girl was okay we guess, but was the butt of many jokes and reenactments to follow

DID YOU NOT HEED THE DECLARATION?

I was on the same schedule to walk to class as this girl that had one of the nextel phones with the annoying chirp. The first day of class after the storm I got to see her fall twice while reaching for the phone. It was probably my most memorable day that winter.

From the snow we had when I lived on campus, 2/26/04
A few friends of mine rolled up the big balls of snow and carried them from one of the fields to Tucker beach. I wish I hadn't slept through that. Someone came up and put boobs and ears on it before I got out to take a picture of it.

I always laugh when people build a snowman around here cause it looks like they took all of the snow from the surrounding area to make it. funniest was when someone made one on one of the benches at wolf village. It was sitting with it's arm on the rail and had it's legs crossed smoking a cigarette.

The models (well, model) had suggested this possibility as early as last Tuesday. It was discounted, given the length of the forecast. However, some credence was given due to the fact that the European model had been verifying better than the others.

It continued to do so throughout the last week and here we are. Everything looks good. Sucks that the clouds broke today and we got 50. Would've liked for it to have been colder so we had a better shot at more accumulation.

Nevertheless, a pretty nice event for the snow lovers. 6-8" seems about right for this. You never can tell with the coastal lows, though. The storm in 2000 was a coastal system.
