I think the appeal of bringing in his father, possibly the best defensive coach alive, Monte Kiffin was a huge draw for the vols.
I happen to like the selection very much. Defense should not be hard to recruit for this team with Monte coaching these guys to the NFL. They will probably be able to persuade a very good Cali QB to come play for them with Lane's west coast ties. They will recruit skill players very well too.
I see them being very strong in 2 or 3 years 12/1/2008 11:47:47 AM |

Great maybe UT will be good when they hook up with NC State in 2012. That will be an awesome game. 12/1/2008 9:18:34 PM |

yeah, shes hot as fuck... former Victoria's Secret model.
I really like how blunt and straight forward he was...
Quote : | ""I want the Tennessee family to know this is what I'm going to give you: I'm going to roll my sleeves up and go to work," he said. "I'm not promising you how many wins we're going to have, how many championships . . . But no one's going to outwork us. No one's going to outwork me as a head coach. No one's going to outwork our staff that we put together. That's the promise I'm giving you. The wins will come after that."" |
Quote : | "As he greeted the media for the first time after becoming Tennessee's 21st head football coach Lane Kiffin declared that his goal was to build a fence around Tennessee's borders in an effort to keep the best in-state talent from going anywhere but Tennessee. Putting that plan into immediate action Kiffin left the media center and hopped a plane to go see the state's best prospect receiver Marlon Brown. Rivals.com rates Brown as the No. 9 receiver in the nation. "It was very important that he came to see me first," Brown said. "He told me that he could have went to an alumni dinner and stuff in Knoxville to get settled in, but that he came to see me because he wants to recruit the best in America." Instead of hobnobbing in Knoxville, Kiffin was in the stands at Brown's high school basketball game and later in his living room trying to create a relationship with the 9th ranked receiver in the country. "Oh it was real good," Brown offered. "I just need to talk to him more and get to know him better." That relationship building is something Brown is looking forward to after spending a few hours with Kiffin and learning more about the Vols new head man and his plan. "His offense is really nice," Brown said. "I mean he didn't even have to sell me on that. Everyone knows what his offense has done."" |

hm....i'm interested in seeing how this plays out.
although i generally think pro coaches tend to do well in the college ranks, the oakland raiders seem to be the exception to the rule. bill callahan and mark trestman both come to mind. hopefully for ut, kiffin can break the trend. 12/3/2008 2:40:07 AM |

kiffin's more a college coach that failed in the pro ranks than the other way around. although it's hard to call doing anything w/ the raiders these days "failing", exactly. 12/3/2008 3:39:13 AM |

damn, I hope he knows what hes doing, he told Tajh Boyd (highly rated QB who had committed to Tennessee) that he was taking the scholarship offer off the table. I really hope he has someone lined up... 12/3/2008 5:05:34 PM |

yeah, told him he wouldnt be a good fit for the team... and you know how bad our QBs were this year, Danny DeVito is a good fit compared to them 12/3/2008 5:14:22 PM |
