yeah i know you can't go faster than the speed of light, but maybe we discovered worm holes or something in the future

Time travel is only possible if you believe in parallel universes and/or exceeding the speed of light itself.

^^ because "traveling" (if you want to call it that) to the future merely requires slowing your time down relative to everyone else, which we know is possible definitively, and doesn't cause paradoxes.

Traveling to the past has too many paradoxes, and just doesn't really make sense in general, considering how the universe/laws of physics work otherwise.

The only plausible theory that sort-of might would work is the idea where you are in a relativistic reference frame with a wormhole that has the other end in a non-relativistic reference frame, where supposedly the relativity effects aren't felt through the wormhole. I'm not convinced there wouldn't be some relativity effects through the wormhole though.

Because the faster you move the slower your experience of time is. If you moved at 80% of the speed of light to alpha centauri the round trip would take you 6 years. However you would return to find the rest of the world has advanced 10 years. Time is relative to speed.

It works like this. According to one interpretation of quantum physics, every time a quantum object is faced with a choice, the world divides to allow it to take every possibility on the offer. In the simplest example, Time Traveling Ted may be faced with a wall containing two holes, so that Ted must go through one hole or the other. In this theory, the Universe splits so that Ted can go through one version of reality, or one set of relative dimensions, and the Universe decides that Ted will go through the hole on the left. However, it is possible for Ted to go through the other hole on the right. Pushed to its limits, Einstein Theory says that the Universe is split into infinitely many copies of itself, in which all possible outcomes of all possible "experiments" must happen somewhere in the "multiverse" whether we witness it or not.

Clear as mud?

MY EXPLANATION IS THE BEST FUCK THE OTHERS

well, we know time is relative to the movement of the system. the faster the system is traveling the slower time seems to go, as far as we know it, if we went at the speed of light time would virtually be 0. The problem is that matter expands pretty rapidly after like .95c or something, so think about trying to run a marathon, then double your weight and try and run the same time, then double your weight and try and run the same time, then double your weight and try and run the same time.

The only way we can think of skipping this process right now is by using worm holes, think about instantly travelling 100 light years away, the earth would appear to be 100 years older if you had a kick ass telescope.

if you had to choose between saving your boyfriend or your mom, which one would you let fall into the fiery depths of hell?

And lets not forget that it is possible Ted takes both paths at the same time, as we know that eletrons move on every possible paths between two points.

We don't "know" this, this is how we model it mathematically. The whole "multiverse" thing is purely a mathematical construct, we don't actually know what is going on. We say it's multiple universes (which is a plausible theory, but has actually no experimental evidence) because that's how the equations work (which change every 6 months practically).

All of our subatomic particles we know of today once existed in this purely mathematical realm as a variable, before we devised ways to measure it.

It's fun to think about parallel universe, but I wouldn't personally get invested in the theory, because it's just variables in an equation.

I think you have this backwards... if you instantly travelled 100 light years away, the Earth would appear 100 years YOUNGER, you'd be seeing light from the earth as it was 100 years ago.

That is why the parallel universes theory is a must for time travel to even exist, because if Ted exists in all of the possible holes, he would fill up a single universe exponentially in the past, present and future. Assuming that the universe is finite, and not infinite, the universe would cease to exist as we know it, because of Exponentially Multiplying Time Traveling Ted.

Time for some microwaved lasagna.

Nothing we are talking about has to do with truth, its all theory and hypotheticals. Basically, in a nutshell, parallel universes counteract the paradoxes clouding the possibility of time travel. It all has to do with rotating black holes and singularity and the possibility of there being another exact copy of the universe on the other side of a rotating black hole's singularity (aka "wormholes"). Very nerdy stuff that I happen to dig.

blackholes?

I'm don't think there's anything at the "end" of a blackhole, it's pretty much very, very dense matter.

I base this belief on the fact that black holes come in very different sizes and shapes, and can be dissipated by "regular" matter, as well as being able to dissipate on their own. It doesn't make sense to me (and I know i could be completely wrong) that something with a almost "mystical" singularity event inside of it could be so fragile to normal physical forces.

Wormholes are more interesting, but there is not a shred of physical evidence (yet) that i've seen for wormholes.

We do know it happens, though. When you fire a single electron at two slits you see the same interference pattern you would expect to see by sending one electron through each slits.
