I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters: not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bullshit. For those ten seconds or less, I'm free.

That was kind of my point... bragging about an underachieving sports sedan beating an underachieving roadster.

I tried to point out that ~200hp from either of those cars is unimpressive, that these days you can get as much from a Japanese econobox at a much better hp/weight ratio.

Maybe it's my fault that I didn't state my point explicitly, because somewhere in there the dude got the impression that I'm all about ricers.

Are you quoting a deleted scene from Joe Dirt?

Leith Audi in Raleigh. They had 2 S4 there and one RS4 when i got my car.
Go to leithaudi.com they actually have a 2006 S4 with 41000 miles in stock right now.

^^ I never intended this thread to be a brag about your 200hp. I was just trying to tell a story about what happened on the road.

just got a z4, i'd be very surprised if you got any kind of lead if the guy had a 3.0si in sport driving mode. the thing will FLY (and eats gas like a mofo). after test driving a few, anything less than the 3.0si is a waste imo.

I think Audi somewhat tarnished their heritage with the S-line. When BMW came out with the M-tec program it was not highly pushed, and really just added some appearance to already well performing cars(540i). However from everything I have seen many S-line owners seem to think they have something far far ahead of a normal A car.

^^^ haha, i wouldn't say that it will "fly". it's a reasonably quick sports car--basically what it should've been all along.

Also, I doubt that "sport mode" feature makes any difference at WOT acceleration. If it does, it would be minimal...a tenth of a second in the quarter or something, probably.

(Well, 106hp '97 Civic LX, but that's at the crank and it's 11 years old, so it probably is around 70 at the wheels now hah)

I didn't get it by the way to be an S4 wannabe.

The reason i got it was it was one of two certified A4's in my price range that was a 6-speed. Was a color i liked, leather seats, and a sun roof which i considered a must. the special trim, sports suspension, bigger wheels, and whatever else makes it an s-line were just added bonuses.

I didn't say you were, I simply said many S-line owners that I have met are. I'm obviously a huge Audi fan, but lets not brag about a 7.2second 0-60 car.

what kills the 0-60 on that car is the ratio of 2nd is too high. If I did not have to shift to 3rd to hit 60 w/o going into redline i bet it'd shave a good half second off.

Just clarifying... I honestly don't care to put up the IS250 against his AWD Sports Sedan. I just thought it ironic I have a Jap car that's in the same category as his (very similar in every aspect except I'm RWD and he's AWD).

this thread is something else... I can't believe how many threads have derailed in the garage lately

^ I'd hope so

^^ to bad the drive quality doesn't compare; and my money is still on the A4 (at least the quattro) for handling over the FWD SI

^^drive quality is purely a matter of opinion. performance, however, isn't. all things being equal, even an a4 quattro would get its feelings hurt by the civic in pretty much any handling/acceleration contest. i'm sure the a4 would probably do better in the snow or something. maybe.

high school kids driving stock econobox's trying to figure out which is fastest and since the 1/4 times are too depressing they look at 0-60 instead

comparing apples to apples though it would only make sense to compare the civic (sports tuned) SI to the Audi S4.

At this point the argument is pretty much a joke.

There are many statements in this thread that I'd like to comment on, but I'll only argue one. HUR, there's no freaking way your A4 out handles a Civic Si.

Also, regarding shifting when accelerating, having to shift into 5th running the 1/4 mile's a bitch

I read an article about it in Evo magazine that said it was miles ahead of the current 4.2L v8 S4 and praised it from every direction

Im assuming Audi is positioning the S4 to be up against BMW's 335 inline6 twin turbo, while the RS4 is up against the M3

Sadly it seems that they are....While the dubed 3.0T makes more power throughout the rev band it is not what I would expect to see out of the next generation of a performance car.

Although Im excited to see what a supercharged Audi will do - I'm sad to see the v8 go - nothing sounds like the growl of a european NA V8.

Unfortunately european V8s are probably going to disappear completely from the sports touring segment in the next few years

Yea I enjoy the sound of my 4.2, and the lack of additional power in the b8 will keep me from looking into it. Either VF's supercharger kit that is about to be released or an Rs4 seem to be much better options.

I was actually looking into switching over to a BMW with their 0.9APR advertisements, but the cost for anything less than an M3 is just too much for what you're getting - and the M3 too far outside of my price range.

Now Im back yet again looking for a nice low-miles (~25k) 4.2 S4. You said you had a 4.2? Is it a B6 or B7?
