it's really bad luck. I wouldn't have a problem with the NFL expanding to 14 teams or even 16 honestly.

The season is a fucking grind and I hate to see good teams miss the playoffs because of slow starts or injuries.

Every season you see certain teams who are playing really well miss the playoffs because they started slow, had a few fluke plays or ref calls go against them, or had injuries that were tough to overcome immediately.

There have been plenty of examples of teams sneaking in the playoffs to make a lot of noise like the Giants last year, Jags in '96 (got in on a missed FG by Morten Anderson and beat the SB favorites Denver), etc

Just as there have been plenty of examples of teams getting off to hot starts and limping into the playoffs only to lose like the Titans will this year. (dallas last year)

Fuck it, let more teams in. The SB champions don't usually require much luck in the playoffs. Most teams who win will win convincingly in each playoff game.

(Even in close playoff games the winner is usually convincing in that they deserved to win by controlling the line of scrimmage, the turnover battle, and limiting penalties)

I completely disagree

In the NBA, over half the teams make the postseason

In baseball, only about a quarter of the teams make it

In football, its right in the middle

You can't be mediocre, but you don't have to be elite just to get in the tournament

Winning 11 games and missing out is a once a decade set of circumstances

I think the amount of teams making the playoffs 12 out of 32 is okay. But I dislike the two wildcard format because it just causes too much noise (i.e. randomness) in the outcomes.

I agree that having 4 divisions of 4 teams a piece is kind of silly

I think they're should be two divisions in each conference with the two division winners and the next four best teams going to the playoffs

You don't have to play everyone in your division twice...thats an archaic scheduling quirk back from when travel was expensive and it was hard to fill out the 16 game slate with other teams

Now you only get to play intra conference games once every 4 years, so Peyton and Eli will play one more time at the most

It silly...when they go to an 17 or 18 game schedule in 2010, they should have at least 6 intraconference games every year
