That's what we were having difficulties with, live in the moment or save for our future. We are both young and know ultimately we will be by the beach. I'd have better success building up my work on the beach though.

It's a tough call because we could be really miserable for the next two years being in a place we can't connect with but we will have money.

oh blah

its plenty easy to stereotype places into "OMGZ DA BEAUTIFUL BEACH" and "LOLZ COLD REDNECK COUNTRY." there's a lot of places that are nice you wouldn't expect.

I live in Madison right now and while it is a college town on a lake, I'd have never though I'd want to be in the midwest in a town that got 100+ inches of snow last winter (already 50+ this year).

Wow. Charleston, SC all the way.

At first I was going to say..."I'd live at the beach no matter what. I'd slum it and pick up an extra job bartending or waiting tables if I wanted to save money."

But then yous say Charleston...and that's a no brainer. I'm currently in my 4th year here and wouldn't want to be anywhere else (unless it was maybe overseas).

25k won't buy happiness.

go spend a few weekends in both places. if you aren't enjoying the place outside of work then fuck it

You could make that 25k waiting tables or bartending a few shifts a week. The food and beverage industry is lucrative down here.

easy to say when ur college kid. less so as you begin to settle down more and/or have a family. 25k (depending where the salary range lies) could be the difference between comfort and struggling.

think of making 25k vs 50k.

I'm just saying...

About 5 times a week I walk downtown through one of the more historic downtowns in America. Then I go home, cross over one street and watch one of the best sunsets on the East Coast (the way my beach is positioned, you still see the sunset over the water).

It's also some of the best collection of places to eat and drink without having to go to a NY/LA type area. And compared to most of NC/SC...its pretty liberal because of the college and arts/entertainment sector.

Oh I love Charleston. I've been there several times throughout my life and want to settle there. We found a house on folly beach, an art gallery that wanted my work, and a job offer for him, but the income isn't there immediately and could be rough for a while so we are going the sensible route.

We both want Charleston in the long run though.

I'd say take the job in Charleston, regardless of what it is. With the economy going down the pooper, a large town is less likely to completely go down the shitter. A small town with not a whole lot has a lot to lose, and fewer job prospects I'd assume. Ultimately choose the one you're likely to still have by next year.

there should be more factors. the type of job being one. if you are going to get a job that could possibly make up the difference. there is a huge difference between 25k and 50k. but as much between 175k and 200k. if it is one way you should probably be prepared to make up the difference. Either way our opinions should make much of a difference. actually if it is his job i wouldn't even consider your opinion to be too much of a factor. but maybe thats why i'm single.

Maybe it's just because I've lived on a coast for 90% of my life and the beach is just a moment away, but I don't really see the draw of living near the beach.

"fucking rednecks" and "shitty AFFORDABLE housing" describes Charleston as well. you won't need as much career growth when you start out making more money than you'd make in the other job in 10 years. Go with Bristol, and then move in 2 years if you want a change.

nm.

take the higher paying job. being young, you need money to start yourself off, and will be better off down the road. you have all your life to live by the beach, but given the current status of the country, its better to be financially well off right now.

always go with the happiness - you'll just end up there anyway

I'd rather graduate and make minimum wage and be happy than assloads of money and be miserable. Make the right decision now so you won't have to make it in 6 months. No use living miserable at this point in your life, thats stupid

I'm all about happiness but I want to do it right, I don't want to be miserable because I don't have an money and am struggling to pay bills. Stress can ruin the beauty of the beach.

Granted there is an unknown variable of possibilities in Charleston but with the economy we think it's safe to take the sure thing.

And I know Charleston has rednecks but they're a different breed of redneck, no where near TN's definition.

I've made much more than 25k in a year but this opportunity isn't mine.

^I didn't know that. We were in Charleston last week! Found a kick ass place right on the fucking beach and she was willing to cut us a deal but we couldn't take it not knowing if we could afford it.

We decided realistically we can't but want to in 2 yrs
