well making money does not equal being driven by money. the main reason i'm staying IS money related. i'd be totally screwed if i dropped out, jobless, and wasn't eligible for my loans and health insurance (it is easier to stay in school, digging my own grave) third, i want to help people (like working at legal aid, where yes, i will make money, since it is a job, but at 30,000 to 40,000 a year, i could PROBABLY have faired just as well or better without the extra degree, so it isn't really about money, even though money is included in the equation. as it usually is with jobs of all sorts)

and anyway that is ME making money. what i meant was that i'm not the type that just wants a ring and a new car. like when picking a partner, money isn't the first thing that jumps into my head!

The results have to be viewed in the proper cultural context. The Cultural Revolution tried to define sex as simply reproductive work. Anything else was bourgeois excess. I have a feeling this conditioning remains stronger amongst rural poor than the urban middle class.
