Lets not kid ourselves, no one really knows who Obama really is. He ran on very vague feel good notions, "Hope", "Change", "Yes We Can". In doing so everyone projected their own meanings of those platitudes on him. Although few know what hope and change really mean other than anti-Bush. He has been very light on specifics. Also, the cult of personality around him is a bit scary since no one really knows who he is, and expectations of him are so high. Should be an interesting 4 years

Dubya is by far the emptiest vessel ever seated at a Presidential position.

lol. What's funny is that some of you don't realize you are a huge minority right now in the graces of the American people.

Things have changed. You can either decide to embrace an honest relationship of building positive and effective governing changes and policies (and boy are they coming) because the plight of America is very dire right now, or you can opt out and play to the xenophobic, logically deprived defiant party of ever shrinking white baby-boomers. All the while the minority and majority racial divisions continue to shrink at huge rates.

It's your choice, but you better choose wisely or you'll be locked out of many elections in the future. Your party lacks any credible leadership when you prattle on during these tough times about partisan bullshit.

Basically, either get involved for the country's sake or keep losing.

this could be a great deal for people with lots of CC debt (often through their own fault, often) but who are then being raped by the CC companies with ridiculous and unreasonable policies
http://www.minyanville.com/articles/Credit-cof-v-cards-mastercard-mc/index/a/20716

Quote :
"New credit card regulations take effect in July 2010. Representative Carolyn Maloney of New York has reintroduced the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights, which offers the same reforms and would become effective 90 days after President Obama signs the bill into law; the proposed plan could effect such issuers as MasterCard (MA), Visa (V) and Capital One (COF).

The changes, the most significant in about 30 years, affect how banks market and bill credit cards. Here's what you need to know:

* Higher interest rates on a current balance will be permitted only under specific conditions such as the expiration of a promotional rate, late payment or a variable rate. Interest rates on new transactions can be increased only after 45 days' advance notice.

*
There will be no more universal default, nor raising interest rates based on a customer's payment history with utility companies or other credit issuers not affiliated with the bank issuing the credit card.

*
Payments will be due at least 21 days after the bill is mailed or delivered. Credit card issuers will no longer be able to set early morning deadlines for payments.

*
When a different interest rate is applied to various balances, payments will be applied first to the balance with the higher rate or divided proportionally.

*
Customers exceeding their credit limit will no longer be hit with a fee if a hold has been placed on their account. This routinely happens to customers who reserve a hotel or rental car when merchants place a hold on the account for the entire amount to be billed several weeks or months in the future.

*
Finance charges on a balance due will be computed on charges in the current cycle rather than going back to the previous billing cycle. Double-cycle billing hits customers who pay their balance in full one month, but not the next.

*
Terms will be disclosed in plain English.

What? This is a very communistic, fascist-sounding rant. It's very important to have a viable opposition party, and to lend a critical eye towards our government. Right now Obama can do no wrong in the eyes of many, and with Democratic control of congress he has immense power to push through his platform. As Bush showed in the aftermath of 9/11, that can be a recipe for disaster.

Obama has talked quite a bit about building consensus across the aisle. He really doesn't have any incentive to, given his large congressional majority. We'll see in the next few months what he is really about.

Oh, a great many people are projecting their hopes and dreams and problems onto Obama--if you don't think so, you're simply fooling yourselves. Here are a few examples:

Why Obama?

^^ LOL, that is one of your saddest posts to date.

You don't generally address someone you're agreeing with using a challenge. But if we just read your post as the rantings of a blind partisan, you still don't address the initial post in a meaningful way. Unless you're somehow alleging that no one knew who Obama was, which has already shown to be blatantly wrong several times in this thread.

And for every youtube video of an Obama supporter who doesn't know about him, there are 10x more with identical McCain supporters, who are usually spouting something racist in addition.

It was a good try though, at least you're making a show.

Who gives a shit about McCain? The old man lost, get over it

The problem is that we've not only given Obama the keys to the car, we've also given him a blank check with that huge congressional majority. On top of that, he can seemingly do no wrong in the eyes of thousands of adoring journalists and millions of worshipping fans. I'd like to see some real, critical analysis of Obama's decisions and policy, but I doubt I'll see anything like that for a while. And while I trust the guy to make the right decision more than I would ever trust Bush, there are no checks or balances in place to prevent him from going down the wrong path.

more than likely, I bet Obama will be pulling the reigns in on Congress. I will guarantee he will pull out his veto pen a lot faster than Bush pulled his out.

For One Thing: Neither Obama, nor the executive branch, will do any investigating.

but, practically speaking, has an ex-President ever been seriously investigated after leaving office? I don't think so, but I'm not sure. I expect that every sitting president -- no matter how much they may have disliked the prior administration -- will be reluctant to try to criminalize actions of their predecessor.

It would set a dangerous precedent that would easily be turned on them.

I remember reading almost the exact same things during Bush's reelection. Its pretty safe to say people got way ahead of themselves there, as you are with your quote. A viable conservative candidate running a conservative campaign on conservative principles very much has a place in our country.

Once the honeymoon is over, we will really see what the public things of BO.

I think the throngs of people buying into the whole 'hope and change' theme will become disenchanted and disinterested 4 years from now when they realize the culture of Washington didnt change overnight. The biggest thing BO has to fight against isnt policy making, the economy of terrorism...its the unrealistic expectations of a good number of his supporters.

I hope BO is the best President ever. We need a historical figure and strong leader to put us back on the right path. I just dont think he will be that figure.

^^^ Oh yeah. Bernie Goldberg. Now there's a credible, non-partisan commentator.

At least now we see where you get your source material.

Quote :
"Goldberg [has] shifted the focus of his work to accusing the media of liberal bias, and particularly in the reporting of news.

bibliography:

Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News
Arrogance: Rescuing America from the Media Elite
100 People Who Are Screwing Up America.
Crazies to the Left of Me, Wimps to the Right

Boston Globe journalist Cathy Young criticized Goldberg's book 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America for listing mostly liberal or liberal-leaning individuals and only "a few Token Right-Wingers," without acknowledging this bias.

Wrong again, schmoe.

If a special counselor is appointed, he or she would be appointed by the attorney general--who is a part of the executive branch. Congress also can conduct inquiries and investigations.

just reminds me of that one kid in elementary/middle/high school who would always claim to have some kind of secret ninjitsu skills that he'd whip out if you ever kept antagonizing him. And we all know what that kid looked like.

If one has "two pages" worth of "pwning" that is so bad that the other person would just pee their pants and cry, then why talk about it all? Put up or shut up.
