People have no idea how difficult it is to get good arrangements of music out rapidly and then practice it enough to have it sound good in games. No reason to put in lots of work for a song people won't want to listen to in a month because it isn't the flavor of the week. 1/29/2009 4:56:10 PM |

^^^ EXACTLY!!!!!! Quote : | "^^I actually liked hate me now, it beats the shit out of hey baby and 75% of what the band is playing now. OH, i forgot, we can't play the black people music at state" |
Sucks we have lame songs like that.
And ^^ I can assure you that if you practice songs that are hip now, they AREN'T gonna be played out or "old" in the next 5 years. And who care if "no one" wants to listen to it, it DEFINITELY beats the hell out of what we have now. I get tired of hearing the fight song so damn much.1/29/2009 5:01:58 PM |

BC's band actually plays "You Can Call Me Al", at least for basketball (Coach Skinner) I got a kick out of it when I noticed it 1/29/2009 5:04:47 PM |

^^ Definitely wassup, but all the OLD white country folk wouldn't know what that was! LOL
Of all the ones I found on Youtube I think my fav is "Hate Me Now" by A&T's band. We need to step our game up. And we need to play Maceo's "Ho Sit Down" when a player fouls out (since it's NOT TOOOOO terribly often). LOL

I'm really getting tired of Hey Baby too. It was fun when they played it like once every football game in the fall and maybe every couple of games during basketball season, but I'm damn tired of hearing that so much.
Online was fun at first, already getting old.
And I'm on board with Don't Stop Believing...would be appropriate.
Just as long as we don't start with zombie nation, in which case I'll never attend another game of ours. 1/29/2009 5:08:16 PM |

That is what the band has to work with. If you like any of those songs say so and we can actually get them. 1/29/2009 9:51:46 PM |

It's not even been half a year on that one.
(In before the RABBLE RABBLE ONLINE ALWAYS SUCKED, even though I agree, playing the latest pop hits isn't feasible)
And you know damn well the odds of ever hearing the kind of music you'd hear at a HBCU is about zero, same for most other big universities
might as well rename sports talk the let's bitch and moan about anything and everything related to our athletics program, but hey, that's tww in a nutshell and the haters were a lot worse I first got here and athletics had us sitting under the damn field house about as far away from the student section as you could get1/29/2009 10:11:55 PM |

Yeah I've got no problems with Don't Stop Believin, believe me, people would get tired of it just like everything else, but it would still be kickass for a while 1/29/2009 10:57:43 PM |

from the marching band music library:
You'll Never Walk Alone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7xvegPH_Lw) [badass] -if they played the lyrics on the jumbotron and the entire arena sang that, that would be soo freaking badass.
Gimme That Old Time Rock and Roll (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqHp4ouH1Nc) -she is soo fine
Gladiator Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgCevpO18t4&feature=related) -this song gets everyone pumped idc what the situation is. (esp the 1 minute mark)
C'Mon Band its already in your database, bust it out for the big game... 1/29/2009 11:08:32 PM |

It's a little late to get this stuff out for the game this weekend (class is on Monday), but good ideas none the less. Don't know if Dr. G will get to them this year, but they could be brought out for next year. 1/29/2009 11:38:03 PM |

also most of the pieces have to fit well into a certain time frame, short enough to fit in a time-out, whether it's 30-sec or 60 or a tv time-out, we usually end up cutting parts out of some songs, but some you just can't chop up easily and some tunes in the library are longer halftime marching pieces so they wouldn't work well in basketball unless it was pre-tipoff
and yeah you're not gonna get something thrown together in such sort notice when you have to make copies of the music for every part on every instrument and then get enough people together to work a piece up to where it sounds decent 1/30/2009 12:17:19 AM |

^ totally understand. but i am all for the band taking our ideas and running with it for the future. this season might not be doable, but next year, football, and beyond isnt outta the picture. my only hope is that we swap out hey baby 3rd quarter with something better.
that being said a pretip off rendition of "you'll never walk alone" would be so badass. 1/30/2009 12:25:23 AM |

Why the fuck would they play some lame ass English football song
We have our own fight song, faggot 1/30/2009 12:33:29 AM |

^ our fight song is always a classic, no doubt, but adding something else to create a great atmosphere in the rbc center isn't against the rules. on a side note atleast you called it football. 1/30/2009 1:12:34 AM |

If I knew nothing about Liverpool and someone were to show me that video, you'd have a hard time convincing me it wasn't an Elton John concert.
I don't see how singing that song would get anyone in Raleigh, North Carolina the least bit excited. 1/30/2009 1:15:17 AM |

Question for current or past band members
Is it illegal or just frowned upon to play annoying horn blares and stuff during opponent free throws? 2/19/2014 9:00:56 PM |

let me make it clear that I have NEVER been part of any band
now that we're clear, I found this:
Quote : | "Rule 10 Section 2. Administrative Technical Fouls Art. 8. Team followers (fans, bands, cheerleaders and mascots associated with either team) shall not commit an unsportsmanlike act, including, but not limited to, the following: a. Using musical instruments, amplified music or artificial noisemakers while the game is in progress, except timeouts and intermissions. b. Using laser pointers. c. Throwing debris on the court after officials’ jurisdiction has begun. d. Delaying the game by preventing the ball from being promptly made live or by preventing continuous play, such as but not limited to, followers entering the playing court before the player activity has been terminated. When the delay does not interfere with play, it shall be ignored. p 91" |

i'd just like our football halftime shows to be something fun, or just upbeat even. playing russian death march stuff from the cold war era just sucks. that probably offends some but play to your audience. it may be the most brilliant piece of music ever written, but that doesn't mean a song makes sense at a college football game. 2/20/2014 1:46:54 AM |
