i think what he is saying is that when we have a fourth down on the 33-35 yard line that he would like the option to possibly kick a 50 yarder rather than have to punt or go for it. If you can hit a 50 yarder or so with reasonable consistency, it could a game changer. The reason TOB never put Czajkowski out there for those long FGs is because he knows its a long shot that it will actually be made..............Czajkowski did fine this year and I would rather have a solid guy from 35-45.......maybe we will employ the two kicker system this year or maybe czajkowski has hit the weight room

I'm not questioning the new punter. I'm saying we NEED a new kicker.

Looking at the numbers, you're right

http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2008&rpt=IA_team4down&site=org

We were 93rd in conversion percentage

No one said our 4th down percentage was pretty good

Either way, it's not like there's high correlation between it and winning percentage

Who cares?

Unless the new punter can curve the ball to the sideline with precise aim, then a punt from that distance will almost always be a touchback anyway...so going for it on 4th down and failing would only be a difference of 15 yards.

4th down on the 30 yard line should be a guaranteed score. Get a kicker who can consistently make 45-yarders and I'll sit down.

They don't exist. Not in college, at least. There might be three or four guys in the NFL who are consistent from 45 yards.

You're talking crazy talk

^ He's not talking crazy as much as blatantly spouting ignorance.

^16-19. It was like 2nd best in ACC.

Some of you forgot the Kent Passingham days....
