well played, sir.

I agree, I think I'm going to go ahead and do the 8 round deal. They don't expire until Dec. 2010, so assuming the course opens on time (or even a couple months late) I'll burn through them no problem. I'm stoked about this course!

i dont know if they have one, but NC needs a membership like the VSGA in VA. It's $65/year and hundreds of courses are on the list of accepting members. The card guarantees that you don't pay more than $25/round of 18 with a cart. Each course has a different allotment of how many times you can play, and during what months. But some of the courses around here (central VA) are like $100 green fees, so if you play there once it pays for itself. At Wintergreen, there are a couple courses (Stoney Creek and Devils Knob) that do charge like $100, but its still only $25 to play, and they let you play it like 5 times per season. Some courses may be dying for golfers anyway, so sometimes they will let you play either more than the card says or during more months' time.

It's a great value..anyone know if NC has such a group?

FWIW, i didn't meant that the course is charging too much or something like that... i'm not a fan because i got used to playing at home for free it really is going to be a good value as far as i can tell.

i need to go to the range a few times before i get out there and embarrass myself

it's been few and far between that he's had to pay i think.. more often than not he at least gets a discount for being a member of the supers' association. it really makes me regret not playing more in high school when i was still at home; ironically i didn't even start to enjoy golf until late high school/early college.

as far as the course at state, does anyone know if there's a model or mock-up of the pro shop?

The golf course is technically "open to the public". However, anybody has the opportunity to become a "Charter Partner" by donating at $10,000 payable over a 5 year period. This gets you name plaque recognition, golf course collectibles, meet & greet with Palmer at the opening, partner tournament entry, and the opportunity to buy a "Chancellors Club Pass". This pass cost $1200 a year for unlimited greens fees and a discounted cart fee each time. You also get preferential tee time scheduling. Greens fees are slated to be between $75-$85 to the public. You can dontate less than $10,000 to get a name recognition plaque and other freebies, but the miminum is $10,000 to qualify for the CCP. And then is another $1,200/year on top of that for the golf. Charter Partners can get tee times 2 weeks in advance, Faculty and staff and Wolfpack Club members 7 days in advance, general public 7 days in advance. No discounts for faculty, staff, or students so take andvantage of the early discounted programs on the internet now.

There should be major discounts for faculty, staff, and students...much like Finley.

I'll be honest... I find it pretty lame that there wont be a student discount. I guess I could understand the argument that no "student" money's or government moneys went into this project (if that's true... i don't know if it is or isn't)... but c'mon.... show some love for faculty, staff, and students, even if it's just a small discount.

Does anyone with inside information know whether or not these vouchers will have to be used by the same person. I'm debating picking up the 8 pack and taking my father in law whenever he comes into town. But if for some reason I'm the only one that could use them, that'd probably be a deal killer.

So you think this course is gonna be pretty nice. I mean, keep in mind I'm used to playing Wil-Mar for $25 bucks, so my quality expectations are low, but at the same time I'd want a better course if i were paying more. I do my best to golf on the cheap (because it still takes a great day to break 100)

"What are the rumored greens fees? I know they've got some online "pre-order" specials (kinda like click-it golf) where you can get 2 rounds (incl. cart fee) for $125, 4 for $200, or 8 for $350.

$44 per anytime round would be a pretty good deal, and even $50 per round is a good price for 18 holes on a decent course in the triangle during the weekend."

if the pre-opening "special" is 62.50 per round, what makes you all think they're gonna charge as low as $44-$50 per round when its open?

it is to each his own as far as a golf course being worth it.....i can tell you from walking the course that is REALLY LONG and narrow....Palmer did a good job with some crazy hole set=ups and fairway obstacles....it will be a course to enjoy because of the uniqueness of it if you are anything over a 12-15 handicap...they said when they have the ACC tourny there they will have the ability to stretch it to 7800 yards

4 for $200, or 8 for $350

Need a calculator? I'm just kidding... I don't know what the regular greens fees or cart fees will be, I assume they'll be much higher. I was only talking about the online specials available now, which are very good deals, and redeemable through December 2010.

i read that post as you speculating on what their regular fees would be since you used "would be" instead of "is"

There IS going to be a student rate. There's going to be varying rates, just like at Finley and other collegiate courses.

Quote :
""The packages are a good deal right now, and they help out with funding of the course before we're even open," Watson said. "It's saving the golfers money, too."

Pricing to play the course will be structured in four main categories, similar to other collegiate courses in the Triangle. There will be a standard general public walk-in rate, as well as one for "affiliated entities," such as the Wolfpack Club, the Alumni Association and other groups associated with the university. There will also be faculty rates and student rates. All of the rates will fall under certain stipulations, such as specific days of the week.

anyone heard anything about an affiliate rate/discount?

i though they were supposed to have released the rates by now. i thought i read something well over a month ago (maybe 2) that said they would release public rates within a few weeks.

also this is the last i read concerning when play begins...

Quote :
"Yanovitch is eager to shepherd the opening of the challenging public facility on NC State's Centennial Campus, a par-71 that will measure approximately 7,250 yards from the back tees. He anticipates the course will begin limited play in May, beginning with the 250 Charter Partners and followed by the general public."

Hole 3 is a 549 yard par 4. Longest par 4 on the course. (and longer than the par 5 hole 15)

I took Main Campus Dr. from Trailwood to Lake Wheeler. The front nine looks ready to play especially what can be seen facross the street from the Centennial Campuse Middle School. I drive up to where they are constructing a temporary "clubhouse" to get a view of 15th green, 16th tee, and 18th green. The looks to be some work left to do on the 15th rightside rough and 18th fairway approaching the green. All in all the course looks great (from what you can see from the rd/parking lot) considering the abnormal conditions they have been trying to grow grass.
