Hmmm...My doctor put me on a 12 day prednisone prescription last week. Knowing it normally makes people gain a substantial amount of weight in the face, neck, and abdomen I have been trying really hard to keep my workout routine in place and not to let my diet slip.
Now I'm a little concerned though. I have lost 4 pounds in two days when I was barely losing that much per month before. The majority of it the losses have been within the last 24 hours which makes me a little worried about Prednisone induced diabetes. I am drinking more than enough water, my workout last night was one of the most moderate ones in weeks, and I had to get up three or four times in the night to piss so I know it's just water loss. Kind of worrysome when most people retain water on Prednisone and I seem to be dumping it out. 2/19/2009 9:39:18 AM |

one problem for me is that with my job sometimes i am running around in the field for lunch (and in April with the hours I work often all my meals for the day are out in the field). i try to bring in healthy food, but sometimes i don't have time. i've also been hitting up the HT salad bar for some vegetables and stuff for lunch but that gets expensive. to solve this i've been trying to find the best meal replacement and snack bars for when i need to eat on the go.
i'm not an expert at this stuff, but these look good to me and they taste pretty good:

it wasnt quite as quick as i said it was gonna be, i realized i was losing the weight way troo fast so i had to build back up some before finishing the cut
the great thing about the way my body deals with weight is that my tummy and around my face is the first thing to go
so its real easy to see weight differences in me

so how the hell are you supposed to go out to eat and stay on a diet? i guess i could choose other date options, but i have a couple places i like to go to for dates. this weekend i tried to pick health options and eat healthy portions, but its hard to do without looking like a pansy and i can feel it from eating out. i'd rather not order some lame salad when i am on a date.
are there any restaurants that are good for dates that have fairly healthy options? 3/3/2009 9:13:58 AM |

Bali Hai Crazyfire Sweet Tomatoes
can always order a steak + baked potato
go with an appetizer for a meal...bacon wrapped scallops
seafood is usually good to go....sushi is great
i wouldn't care so much about looking like a pussy when ordering, the restaurant is there to cater to you, besides, if a chick is going to judge you for trying to eat healthy and stay true to your goals, do you really want her? If anything I think she'd see you have real commitment which may work in your favor. 3/3/2009 9:19:48 AM |

^^Less trips to Pearl, that's for sure
It's tough to eat out when you go somewhere, just look for things high in protein/fiber. Fish and chicken will give you the lower amount of calories, beef will obviously have more but also probably more protein to keep you full. 3/3/2009 9:26:44 AM |

I bought one from Bed Bath & Beyond a few years ago and noticed this trend. They have them out so that you can try them in the store. I went through probably 7 or 8 different scales before I found one that consistently gave the same reading. I even walked around the store for 10 or 15 minutes and came back to it to make sure. The one I bought was ugly (black glass), but at least it is consistent. And it wasn't even one of the more expensive ones.
Congrats on the weight loss btw.3/3/2009 9:31:37 AM |

i wish i liked fish more than i do, maybe i'll just teach myself to like it. i like chicken, but it always has so much salt in it. From what I've read a lean cut of beef is fine, its got a little more fat and calories but it also has a lot more protein so you feel full with a smaller portion.

i just hate eating salads, i know i look uncoordinated. One of the reason I gained weight was because of my ex-gf; she needed to gain weight because they were going to take her off some medication she needed if she didn't get to 110 lbs, so I took her out to dinner a lot.3/3/2009 10:23:26 AM |

Cut the meal in half. Take the other half home for a 2nd meal or give it to the beggers on Hillsborough.
Don't order an appetizer. Don't drink beer with your food. Ask for lite dressings or no dressings (ranch, blue cheese, etc.) Don't order the 24 oz T-Bone.3/19/2009 9:28:04 AM |

Just eat light. The Rockford has normal sized portions so I don't feel like I need to cut my meal in half. I usually suggest going to Whole Foods for the hot bar now since the weather has been nice and we can chill outside. I can load up on greens for cheap (since you're paying by the pound) or just grab a sushi roll and a piece of fruit and not feel like I'm cheating on my diet. It's not even worth trying to eat right at any of the big chains IMO. Half the stuff that seems like it should be healthy is terrible for you.

I've lost 60 pounds so far, but nobody believes me because nobody saw me when I was at my peak.
I don't diet or exercise. It's too stressful.
Instead, I just cut back on sodas, booze, and Starbuck's. I started doing the pescetarian thing, which pretty much eliminates fast food as an option. I don't eat out much anymore, but when I do, I do it up like a motherfucker.
Sometimes when I go to the grocery store, just before checking out, I'll put back three items that aren't healthful and three items that are too expensive. Then I add three items that are healthful.
One week, I quit smoking, walked forty minutes every morning, did mad ass exercises, and ate less than 900 calories each day, and I didn't lose a pound. So I started smoking again and quit walking. I still do ass exercises though. 3/19/2009 11:04:33 AM |

You shouldn't starve yourself. You need to eat more then 900 calories a day or you're going to pass out if you try to mix in exercise with that amount of food.3/19/2009 2:34:50 PM |

I started tracking my caloric intake 3/5 using Lose It on my iPod.
3/5 - 268 3/13 - 264 3/20 - 262
My daily calorie budget is 2,270. I drink a "Right Size" shake with 12 oz of skim milk every morning. I am a caffeine junkie, so I have switched to Diet Coke and Diet Dr. Pepper and cut out sweet tea.
as far as my history, 8/2000 i was 225 (the leanest and most muscular i have ever been), 8/2001 = 215 (i lost a lot of muscle at school), 6/2005 = 280 (when i got married), 6/2007 = 255, 8/2008 = 280.
i am trying to get back in the 240-250 range by this summer. i do not have time to exercise so i have to use diet only for now. i walk in my neighborhood on the weekends and work in the yard for exercise. 3/26/2009 8:53:21 AM |

Sweat it out in the gym the night before and the morning of. Wear a sauna suit or improvise with a yard trash bag under a hoodie sweatshirt.
Don't replace the water you sweat out until after the weigh-in.
That's how wrestlers/MMA fighters consistently drop 10 lbs+ the day before a weigh-in.
You could do a laxative the morning of if you really wanted to push it, but I wouldn't fuck with that stuff in an already dehydrated state.
Stacker type products are just going to turn up your metabolism a tiny bit, but it's not going to matter in the span of one day. You might burn 25 extra calories if you're lucky. That's 25/3500th of a pound of fat, lol.
When I was wrestling I could count on losing 3-4 lbs overnight, presumably through trips to the bathroom and moisture in my breath. If I had to cut 10 lbs I was good to go because the other 6-7 lbs was easy to sweat out with a workout the night before and sometimes the morning of the weigh-in.
