again, if you knew what you were talking about you would know that it is not a infinitely small space, and it does not have to be all mass. (energy)

I'm a fully enrolled graduate student and I work 30 hours a week in NYC
on the side I do community outreach and grant development for a non-profit
and when I find the chance (which is nearly every weekend) I create sound art

"Finches on Galapagos Islands Evolving
Posted on: Thursday, 13 July 2006, 18:00 CDT

By RANDOLPH E. SCHMID

WASHINGTON - Finches on the Galapagos Islands that inspired Charles Darwin to develop the concept of evolution are now helping confirm it - by evolving.
"

Quote :
"Species can be defined as the group of population that can reproduce a
fertile offspring. "Creation of a species" is not a one step process, it's gradual.
To give an example, let's say a group of monkeys leaves the group
living on an island and swims across to the mainland. Now the two
groups will evolve differently as natural selection will work
differently on the two groups. After a while the two groups may start
looking different, but they can still interbreed producing mixed
babies. After even longer time, they can still interbreed but they may
produce a large number of deformed offspring. The offspring may or may
not survive, or may or may not be sterile. After even longer time, the
two groups will not be able to produce any offspring, or all offspring
will be sterile. At this time process of species bifurcation is over.
There are many other ways in which new species may arise, but in most
cases it's a gradual multi-step process.

Talking about probability, it's very improbably that a group of
existing population does not evolve into another species over time.
Most species we see today will not exist after a few million years.
For example, if you freeze a human being now, and revive him/her after
a few million years. Most probably he/she will not be able to produce
a fertile offspring with any of the species existing at that time.
Like most processes in biology, the time needed to create a species is
highly variable and depends on genetic structure, environmental
conditions, amount of interbreeding between groups etc.

you know, i thought about posting some general facts about evolution and/or the big bang theory but then i thought for a second more and came to the conclusion that i wasnt going to defend evolution to someone with a ZOOLOGY degree who obviously has a gross disrespect for intelligence, research, and science as a whole.

also, if you think something can be "proved" then you are also a sad excuse for a scientist because nothing can be "proven", only repeatedly dis-proven.

take it to the soap box ya whiner

lol, people that attempt to talk down to others when discussing any subject are actually projecting a degree of insecurity. Someone that is truly confident in their understanding of a subject matter does not react in such a way simply to prove a point. Such reactions suggest a clear of lack of confidence, plus a logical fallacy, appealing to authority. Exhibit A = maximus.

This is where I am on the Contiuum

Quote :
"Theistic Evolution
Theistic evolution is a theological view in which God creates through the laws of nature. Theistic evolutionists (TEs) accept all the results of modern science, in anthropology and biology as well as in astronomy, physics, and geology. In particular, it is acceptable to TEs that one species give rise to another; they accept descent with modification. However, TEs vary in whether and how much God is allowed to intervene — some believe that God created the laws of nature and allows events to occur with no further intervention. Other TEs believe that God intervenes at critical intervals during the history of life (especially in the origin of humans). A 2003 book presents an entire continuum of TEs; clearly, there is much variation among Christians regarding this theological view (Peters and Hewlett 2003). In one form or another, TE is the view of creation taught at the majority of mainline Protestant seminaries, and it is the position of the Catholic Church. In 1996, Pope John Paul II (1996) reiterated the Catholic version of theistic evolution, in which God created, evolution happened, humans may indeed be descended from more primitive forms, but the hand of God was required for the production of the human soul. The current pope, Benedict XVI, has reiterated the evolution-friendly Catholic view, stressing the importance of rejecting philosophical naturalism (Lawton, 2007). "

the more i grow older (fact) and wiser (opinion), the more i think that it's a combination... the larger plan by the higher being thing. the divine set the natural into motion.

then again, my views on religion have changed over the years as well... obviously, i guess. i've found myself swinging toward the other side of the spectrum of theistic probability. some years ago, i would have placed myself at 100% "there is no god (of any type)"

not rapidly or anything... evolution has always made sense to me, except i've never been able to answer the question "why" on a deeper level -- out there with "what is the point of us existing to begin with"

to summarize my rambling:

evolution is definitely real. you don't even have to wait millions of years for evidence, as you can see it in overdrive in isolated environments.... and i think that the religious people who reject evolution should embrace it as some sort of evidence of what they have faith in.

i think you should add an A.5 or A/B answer and it would give you better results.

also i say this cause i think i fit in that category. but if you're not willing to add answer D, then i guess i'd have to pick B. cause any belief that a higher being had a hand in it, no matter how strong, puts you over the line... i guess.

I'm shocked by the number of people who put A.

From what we can tell it's A, but I guess it's possible that some higher being arranged for it, in which case it would be B.

I'm agnostic, so...

That survey in the OP must've done their research in the fucking Bible Belt. I agree with A and B. I don't know if I fully can trust my B vote without empirical evidence. So, I'll go with A UNTIL SOMEONE PROVES THE EXISTENCE OF GOD.

Summary:

A
