Probably would have gone to a better school and either gone the med school path or business and then either law or MBA. I didn't really have much direction when I came to school so I made some mistakes, fucked up a few times, and generally lacked focus until about my junior year and then got my shit squared away. If I had to do it again I probably would have taken a year off between HS and college to figure out what I really wanted to do rather than just jump into college with a half assed plan.

Meh, it's ok, I can still get the MBA sometime in the next couple of years and hopefully have someone else pay for it. It's not like I'm unsatisfied with my life, but I certainly have regrets/things I would have done differently.

I wouldn't have switched majors, IE was the right one for me. I would have worked a hell of a lot harder my first 2 years of school. I basically played GPA catch-up for the next 2.5 years.

I guess it really doesn't matter now since I ended up where I wanted to be (in a solid MBA program) but I had to work 3x harder to get here.

I would have stayed on the same track (grad school in chemistry), but I would have tried to double in English Lit. I got too caught up in my GPA while I was there, and I did not really give myself a chance to branch out and study some of my other favorite subjects.

i'll tell my friend who got his first salary at 125k from walmart with a 5k signing bonus that some guy on the internet called him a liar

oh and he's already had two raises

if i had to do it all over again, i would get a less time consuming degree in undergrad that somewhat related to architecture - maybe history/anthropology/etc. and then get the track 3 degree and call it done with a masters in 3 years. plus having a background in something else might be interesting.

there are two what if scenarios for me

1. still go to the naval academy and major in physics instead of polisci
2. go to washington & lee where I was recruited to play lacrosse and major in biology

you seriously think that Walmart would pay somebody $125K/year to count pills?

that's great, but the majority of the people i know in the industry get offers from walmart ranging from 70k to 90k and that's BULLSHIT.

cvs offers 125k with great benefits starting, but that's b/c they work you like a dog. you ask for what you want after you've worked for a few years. for wal-mart, it's a take it or leave it thing. they could care less if you are shitty.

walmart doesn't offer market rate ANYTHING. even managers get paid less than market. thanks for playing.

[Edited on February 15, 2009 at 7:49 PM. Reason : i will say that women get paid much less in this industry though. weird.]

I would have started in natural resources, marine and coastal, instead of switching into it from marine geology. i also would have worked harder to get better grades my freshman and sophomore years.

haven't finished my MS yet, so no verdict on that.

i dunno... i really, really love what i do (clinical social work). i think the only thing i would have done differently was study abroad for a semester or year, instead of just a summer.

i would have lived on campus longer. i was in such a hurry to move off-campus (and be "cool" and have my own apartment) that i didn't truly realize the kind of friendships i'd be giving up. living in the dorms, you meet so many new people, and there's always someone around to hang out with or walk to dinner with. i moved off-campus and got an apartment and realized i didn't have nearly as many people to converse with. that, and moving off-campus cut my concentration in half, or worse. grades went down because i didn't do as much studying.

i would have started in either bio-engineering and switched to bio-medical or done biology right off the bat (possibly bio-engineering + biology)

i would have known what the hell industrial design is
and that THAT is what i wanted to major in, not engineering. a ton of our grad students in ID have engineering degrees. turns out what a lot of us thought would open up to us through engineering only really happens in the design world.

but i guess thats what a track 3 grad program is for... and thousands of $$ in debt.

I'm enjoying being a history major, but I would have went right after high school instead of waiting for my high school class to graduate from college before I went back.
