ive been telling this to people for years. you can just wait till your mid 20s and go to college for free.

my last 2 years i went were fully covered by pell grants, as soon as i had to stop listing my parents when my age went to 23 or 24.

my parents didnt make a lot of money. it was that i was working to pay for school and your EFC of your own pay is like 50%

your numbers indicate that your parents gross (or net?) over $200k/year and your dad "makes" you feel guilty because he wants an extra $6k? AND they're not paying for your schooling?

i don't necessarily think that parents should pay for their children's college, but if your parents are pulling over $200k/year and you're handing your dad an extra $6k out of GUILT, you really need to man up and tell him how it's going to be from here on out

your parents don't need or deserve the extra $6k, ESPECIALLY when it's essentially coming out of YOUR pocket

i'm not sure why you don't just file your taxes and let him clean up the mess when he tries to claim you - assuming he e-files - it'll kick back an error with your SSN

of course this assumes he hasn't filed taxes yet and if your parents actually make what you said they do and they're smart - they'll wait until the last possible minute

I started college when i was 24, and I recommend that to anyone, you would be surprised what shit you qualify for... free GRE, crazy grants, no EFC, haha it was fucking awesome.
