Bobby, of all the pork and BS you could've mentioned, you complain about volcano monitoring? I'm in favor of volcano monitoring. I would like to be aware of what volcanoes are doing. I don't think I'm alone in this sentiment.
If the only earmarks you guys could find were the mouse thing, the Vegas train, and keeping tabs on exploding mountains, then either you're idiots or the stimulus bill is the leanest thing to make it through congress in history. 2/24/2009 10:34:52 PM |

I'd say it worked fan fucking tastic - that a product of a relatively under funded rural county school is under 30, is on his second home, and can afford to make the payment on it for more than a year while this job market gets it's act back together...I'd say our education system absolutely rocks.2/24/2009 10:35:36 PM |

oh, another tactic - nit-pick and parse my words it their absolute literal meaning, even though I wrote it on the fly off the top of my head.

there are private schools. and only the rich can usually afford them. convenient, no? there are, of course, private doctors. But now hardly anyone can afford them, mainly due to gov't interference in the market, via the FDA and insurance mandates and scumsucking trial lawyers 2/24/2009 10:44:02 PM |

"Nobody messes with Joe" smacked of "Way to go Brownie". Obama said words that he thinks people want to hear. Results are a lot different from words.
Bobby sucked in that speech. I don't know how the GOP can regain any love from the country after their last 8 years. Perhaps it will take some massive screw-ups by democrats to get voters to climb back onto that elephant.

If they want me to believe it, I'll go ahead and believe it, and fuck them for their efforts. When they find out it's alienating them from the rest of society, they'll either dive even further in and guarantee the end of the party, or they'll shape up and learn to suck less.2/24/2009 11:05:10 PM |

The Whig Party:
Quote : | "The party was ultimately destroyed by the question of whether to allow the expansion of slavery to the territories. With deep fissures in the party on this question, the anti-slavery faction successfully prevented the nomination of its own incumbent President Fillmore in the 1852 presidential election; instead, the party nominated General Winfield Scott, who was soundly defeated. Its leaders quit politics (as Lincoln did temporarily) or changed parties." |

The way I see it, religious fundamentalism could very well become the new slavery.

Before that, the Democratic-Republicans split after Adams-Jackson scuffle, and the D-R's died off once Jackson's Democrats took over.
Then before that there was the Federalists, who died off after the Democratic-Republicans gained a monopoly.
So like three times, max, for parties who've had members in the White House.
So the lesson is-- two parties have died from being split over an issue (slavery in territories, the election of 1824), and one party has died off from simply being out of touch.

where have i said i want one party
i would fully welcome a libertarian party filled with the fiscal/regulatory conservatives
and a party populated of the yokels who vote only on abortion
i'd honestly be able to vote for a true conservative then
but right now, as long as the two largest planks in the party are who i fuck and what happens after i fuck, i can't get on board son
and honestly, i'd probably NEVER advocate for my partner to have an abortion but fuck someone telling me i can't just because it might have a "soul"

Ah. Well, whatever then. Getting rid of the super-fundie party (or at least that branch of the repub party) would do some good for society as a whole. Far too many of them don't give a shit either way/don't know anything at all about the economy and just focus on trying to turn america into jesusland. Even worse, they make fiscal conservatism look bad by claiming to follow it and then doing the exact opposite.
Just seemed like you were advocating a democrat free-reign sort of situation with some of those posts. If not, then... yeah, that's cool. 2/25/2009 12:13:31 AM |
