oh, and i forgot, speak at least 5 or 6 languages fluently (my niece is 6.5 and speaks 4 langauges)

kahn jr is on the left. she's the daughter of the Laotian father with over achieving expectations on the american tv show King of the Hill. i guess you have to see the show to get it.

Oh Shit, I'm a dad (haha, Kiwi)

Nitrocloud, thanks for that that info.

Thanks Konami, punchmonk, Cansnuts, G.O.D, and SMILEY MAN.

SMILEY MAN, you gotta do better than that on this auspicious occasion! I expect a special non-TWW smiley from you soon!

^ I see. Last page you mistyped it as 'Khan', and that is a typical South Asian name, so I didn't get it. I have heard of the show, just never seen it, but I know exactly what you are talking about, coming from an Asian family myself.

However, I am gonna strike a happy medium between Asian parents' over-zealous attitude towards their children's achievement, and Western parents' non-chalance. Both are damaging. Yes, stereotypes, but that's what we are dealing with here. It is fitting that I am Asian, and my wife is Western... that should be good.

I will never force her or push her to do something. Why should I, having gone through that myself? It only serves to push the child in the opposite direction. I will only introduce her to various disciplines, all of them, and then teach them to her as long as she into them. If she doesn't like something or find something exciting, I will encourage her a bit, and if still the same, drop it.

The key is to nurture your child's curiosity and interest at an EARLY age (read: mere weeks and months old), and if you do that, there is no way they won't be wildly curious when they can read and write, and would want to learn everything.

Eva

You have a long first name, and you're going to give her a hyphenated last name, so at least make the middle one short and to the point.

Luciana Zara Sheikh-Holder

I got back today from the UK. Had the best 8 days of my life.

Slept by my side most of the nights, and on my shoulder/chest a few times every day.

She is so cute and so loveable. And just loves to be held.

And she is very good. She only cries when she is hungry or needs burping.

Otherwise, she just sleeps all day, other than opening her eyes and watching us for a few minutes a few times a day with her big dark eyes. She doesn't even cry when she needs changing.

You could make a 1 inch pony tail with the hair she has got...! But apparently, most South Asian babies are born with lots of hair. (but she is half South Asian, and half Caucasian)

Oh, and she makes the cutest cooing sounds in her sleep and when feeding

She is already exposed to 4 languages simultaneously

Now I gotta wait about 6 weeks for them to come back

Everything else in my life just seems so trivial and meaningless now.

Yay Luci's passport came! It took just 3 days, even though they said it would take 2 weeks!

Now have to apply for the visa for her to come here... and hopefully that could be done in about 2 weeks max.

I am so excited!

Well, we are in SA for the time being, as both of us have jobs here, and have nice free furnished accomodation, and we can save a lot of money. My wife's job also has a good free creche (day-care for kids). My parents are here as well.

Our plan is to stay for another 2-3 years until I am so sick of my job that I will be dying to leave (although, I am fast approaching that point). Then, we will look for jobs in some country (East Asia, South America, Europe) and move. Ideally, I would work and my wife will stay at home and raise our daughter till she starts going to school, but I don't know if that will be possible (no matter where we go, she will earn about double of what I will earn).

Eventually we might settle in the UK and I might become a UK citizen, but it is so damn expensive there. (and cold)
