i HATE babies crying in public places (especially the movies or an airplane)

get your stupid kid the fuck out of public places if you can't control them, or hire a babysitter, otherwise stay home.

what I hate even more than this, is when someone who has already seen the movie says something like "this is the part when..."

This annoys me to no end. People actually assume they know what I'm thinking or feeling and disagree with me when I tell them that I'm not upset. If I'm upset or angry I'll admit to it. But if I say that everything is okay then back off or you'll see angry.

but to answer you anyway, the essence of my job is to be sociable, personable, friendly, knowledgeable, fun, efficient, blah blah blah...not walking idiots through life. part of that "efficiency" issue is knowing when to move on from a particularly dense customer for the good of ALL patrons. This ain't "No Child Left Behind."

You'd be dead on with the last line of your post however, were I to not have anything else going on in life.

Over the years I've worked in 3 different bookstores, for a total of about 2.5 years. ALL THE DAMN TIME people would walk up to the desk, and say, "I'm looking for a book." and then look at me expectantly. I was usually tempted to hand them the closest thing within arm's reach and then walk away...geez...need a bit more information there, chief.

what makes it worse is when it's people like my mom who need to be wearing a hearing aid but will not go get one. my grandmother on that side of the family got one and can hear great when she has it in but still doesn't wear it half the time. i quit repeating myself. she literally watched a whole movie at a fucking theater that was making my ears ring it was so loud and she could barely hear it

I only really hate it when I make a joke or funny comment and I'm then asked to repeat it

Timing is everything, so repeating the same witty remark 10 seconds later doesn't have the same impact

I usually just say nevermind unless I thought it was a truly hilarious remark
