i am now auctioning off adoption rights to various segments of the codebase. for example, if you'd like to support our fledgling statistics section, you may adopt a metric for the low introductory price of $1/month.[Edited on April 29, 2009 at 10:44 AM. Reason : thx to miro for the idea]
4/29/2009 10:44:24 AM
I have 9k set aside for the purchase of tdub.
4/29/2009 11:41:15 AM
well what are you waiting for hand it over b
4/29/2009 11:44:16 AM
when the time is right.someone PM nael and get a real price.
4/29/2009 11:47:15 AM
I could probably get my hands on about $10k, but I would want to be a silent partner. In other words, I would need a cut of all the advertising dollars without having to do any work for the site.[Edited on April 29, 2009 at 11:49 AM. Reason : a]
4/29/2009 11:48:06 AM
^exactly.19k together already.
4/29/2009 11:49:16 AM
oh yeah, and of course a lifetime premie membership
4/29/2009 11:49:57 AM
hey come on now let's be reasonable here
4/29/2009 11:50:50 AM
So you are saying you just want me to give you $10k without a return on my investment?
4/29/2009 11:51:24 AM
i think it's pretty clear that is what i am saying
4/29/2009 11:51:59 AM
i will contribute by donating my old desktop for pic hostingits got like a pentium 4 and prob about a gig of ram but its the good kind
4/29/2009 11:53:54 AM
is there a paypal email address where we can send money to and expect nothing in return - i mean other than the tww premium one
I would give $100 to have a cut
4/29/2009 11:54:01 AM
^^ haha
4/29/2009 11:54:59 AM
there are currently 32,910 registered users on TWW. If everyone pitched in $1, we could all own this motherfucker
4/29/2009 11:56:47 AM
4/29/2009 12:00:53 PM
i wasn't being serious
4/29/2009 12:01:22 PM
OR WAS HE???
4/29/2009 12:01:52 PM
shit, TWW should be a publicly traded company!
4/29/2009 12:05:46 PM
Would t-dub really return to its "glory days" under someone else's ownership? I'm not saying that qntmfred won't do a good job, but let's stop pretending that t-dub will ever return to its former status. The glory days have passed, all good things must come to an end, etc. qntmfred will eventually get tired of putting up with the never-ending flow of crap, anyway.
yeah but at least it would be OUR never-ending flow of crapand i'm not convinced tww doesn't still have a place in the ever-expanding social networking world. facebook doesn't do discussion nearly as well as tww does[Edited on April 29, 2009 at 12:13 PM. Reason : .]
4/29/2009 12:12:11 PM
Honestly, all you have to do is start a new site and advertise it in the free expression tunnel a few times, and BAM!
4/29/2009 12:13:01 PM
obviously that is not true
4/29/2009 12:13:24 PM
yeah, it tooks years of work from dedicated users to build this place up.
4/29/2009 12:15:44 PM
uh huh
4/29/2009 12:16:01 PM
Unless TWW gets a rookie class like the NBA did in 2003 when LeBron, Carmelo, Wade, Bosh, etc all came into the league, then the site well never get back to the level it was at its peak several years back.I cite three main factors 1) The Old Guard is getting....well, oldThe majority of good users on this site, users that have someone of a reputation and frequently contribute quality posts, is getting closer to a mean age of 30 every day. Real life responsibilities are becoming more burdensome. Work and family life means less time for TWW, and when they are here its more of the super serious lounge and soapbox type threads and less of the lollable chit chat endeavors. TWW is growing up...and for the sake of the site, that's not a good thing.2) No influx of new talentI came in late 2007 as a recent graduate. I just got my first real job and wow, holy shit, 10 hours at a desk can be boring. So I started posting here and I haven't stopped. But I'm 24. I'm not some freshman who saw the site spraypainted on campus and decided to check it out. I can count on one hand the number of quality users younger than me who have started posting within the last 18 months.3) The More things change, the More they stay the sameI don't think The Old Guard wants a lot of freshman coming here and making waves. They've been here since 2002, 2003 or so and have kind of established themselves as the dominant presence here. They reminisce about their college days, talk about their kids, mortgages, etc.. Boring stuff. But its their stuff. Unless a hot freshman girl comes on here with ass out naked pictures, they'd prefer to minimize the new users. They're set in their ways...(I make an inside joke, you retort, we all get a good laugh out of it). The ones who have been here the longest would probably shy away if this place was overrun by 18 and 19 year olds.So for those reasons and others, I think TWW is on an inevitable downward spiral. It'll have its good days, sure, but the clock is ticking. As people start creeping deeper into their 30's, more and more will fade into bolivian. By 2011, we'll still be here. By 2013, we won't.[Edited on April 29, 2009 at 12:28 PM. Reason : x]
4/29/2009 12:25:12 PM
Once again, all they need to do is give Premie to people who will spray paint this all over the free expression tunnel once a week.
4/29/2009 12:32:04 PM
fuck.... I don't wanna go to bolivian
4/29/2009 12:32:12 PM
most of the new blood are shitty, and i don't think anyone has advertised this site on campus in quite a whileone of the mods just needs to just say FUCK IT and purge them outgiving the site to someone like qntmfred, i.e. someone that actually gives a fuck about it, would be the best thing that could happen to it[Edited on April 29, 2009 at 12:35 PM. Reason : i still lol at nael's introductory post on the front page]
4/29/2009 12:33:57 PM
As a member of the "Old Guard", I welcome an influx of Freshman. As long as they are chicks, and as long as they at least say they would bang me.
4/29/2009 12:36:11 PM
Here's, to me, the deal. 1)fix the site 100% and make it equally reliable. 2)add features. 3)advertise/market - premies cost you absolutely nothing, but I'd paint the tunnel for a years HTML. 4)quit deleting legit threads. 5)ease up on the @#)(* ads. For everyone using adblock it's not a problem, but newbies tend to run off cause Safari & IE can't block 'em. 6)pay off evan or qntmfred to develop a facebook app that feeds TWW quality threads to the masses.
4/29/2009 12:36:30 PM
4/29/2009 12:37:06 PM
^^ correct. though i would say #4 is overstated. it's not like nael deleting threads is a common occurence. i'd refactor that and say address moderation better[Edited on April 29, 2009 at 12:38 PM. Reason : ^ haha no]
4/29/2009 12:37:12 PM
4/29/2009 12:38:46 PM
ya see, the thing is:people KNOW about TWW. students KNOW about TWW. TWW didn't advertise for years and still saw it's ups and downs of new users.I would say the problem lies more with content than recognition
4/29/2009 12:39:18 PM
i wouldn't even say it's the content. facebook has grabbed their attention so why bother coming to tww
4/29/2009 12:41:51 PM
People want instant gratificationThey come here, peruse for a week or so, and don't see anything they can't get anywhere elseSo they leave and never come backIt takes months if not years to really carve out a niche on hereWhich is why I think we need to make this place more friendly to new usersOtherwise, when we get old and die, this place dies with us
4/29/2009 12:42:40 PM
We should start a TWW Twitter page
4/29/2009 12:43:05 PM
Twitter wouldn't work because TWW functions best as the collective thoughts of the massesNot as the thoughts of one individual who would serve as our Twitter scribebecause it would probably be gunzz
4/29/2009 12:44:15 PM
Just thinking it would be a good way to make use of "the latest internet craze"
4/29/2009 12:47:16 PM
Quite ironic how this place functions like a church, though many users on here are athiest/agnostic, etc. In a church, many of the old people are set in their ways and want things to stay how they remember it in "the good old days." When n00bs or new members join the "church", some of those old members get pissy and say the n00bs "don't know how to run a church" or "don't really care about the church." Realistically, the n00bs are what will carry on the church when the old members die or quit.
4/29/2009 12:47:20 PM
The reason I say content is because in my opinion, that's what keeps people coming back. If you happen to browse over here, and see a thread that really grabs your attention, chances of you coming back later (if even to check up on that thread) greatly increases.Likewise, if you come here for the first time and see 50 threads on the first page titled "macaroni suspenders".....well.....I wouldn't come back
4/29/2009 12:47:28 PM
great, i'm done with lunch. now I need to get back to work so I can earn enough to make a sizable donation to TWW
4/29/2009 12:51:14 PM
4/29/2009 12:54:27 PM
someone should email the entire NCSU student body
