cats you have to deal with the fucking cat shit/piss smell all in your house. i dont care how much you think it doesn't smell..it does. after a couple of weeks to a month you just let the dog outside. that's better than 10 years of shoveling cat shit.[Edited on March 19, 2009 at 8:44 PM. You can teach your cat how to use the TOILET. Until you can pull a Bruce Almighty...cats are totally easier than a dog.Dogs also chew up your stuff, bark, howl, roll in smelly stuff outside, bite, jump up, beg, steal your food...

my kitty doesn't smell. and she has never pissed outside the litter box. i mean she smells but i shell out for the expensive completely not environmentally sound litter.yes and you CAN potty train cats (for the toilet).but i swear it does not smell like cat pee in my house[Edited on March 19, 2009 at 8:47 PM. time to outside train a dog, dur
3/19/2009 8:59:08 PM
for some reason i get the impression cats don't really give a shit about their owner. as if they have their own shit to do and they'll occasionally rub against your legs for some grub.
3/19/2009 9:00:26 PM
most cats are like thati mean, i can see having a cat if you travel a lot and don't have anybody that would/could take care of it regularly but otherwise i don't see why you'd bother. i've just never had a cat with any real personality when compared to a dog
3/19/2009 9:02:34 PM
you need to meet my cat then. she is all about people.
3/19/2009 9:02:50 PM
are you inviting me over?
3/19/2009 9:03:46 PM
noooo my cat plays fetch, answers to her name, talks, comes when she is called, plays with lots of toys, sits with me always, and soon we are going to walk on a leash (yes i know i will look gay but she likes it so whatever)she also is waiting at the door whenever i unlock it!![Edited on March 19, 2009 at 9:05 PM. yoshi is more of a dog than a cat. he greets everybody at the door, whether he knows them or not. he runs towards loud noises instead of away. he comes when you call him the first time, knows how to sit, what "do you want to go outside" means, loves to cuddle and sleeps with me about half the time. he wrestles with the dogs and likes to cuddle w/ them too.
3/19/2009 9:08:10 PM
sounds good to me; cute catdogs feel like they're built more solid like if you lean against it you won't break its rib cage but i don't have extensive cat experiencei play rough dawg[Edited on March 19, 2009 at 9:10 PM. Reason : ;lkj]

haha. well i have one of those skinny skittish cats also.yoshi is stocky. thick fat short-ish legs. you push on him and he doesnt move away or fall over. he's tough. grown up yoshi (the other pic was kinda old), although he wont be a year old until mid may.that's zoe in the background. she's not the skittish one though. she's fat (obviously) and LOVES boys. she loves me too, but just not nearly as much as Fumbler. she approaches men before women too. lol looks like I gotta a lot to learn about the catsso anyone know where I can find a free cat, I'd prefer a kitten but any cat will do (newspaper and SPCA I know but maybe someone knows someone)
3/19/2009 10:53:36 PM
i saw a kitten running around in a parking lot about a block from my house here in rocky mount. free if you can catch him!
3/19/2009 10:56:58 PM
craigslist, tooand the regular poundall have TONS of kittens
3/19/2009 11:00:11 PM
do cats usually get spade or neutered? if a male cat is neutered to they cut its balls off?how much is it to declaw a cat or neuter one?
3/20/2009 12:27:07 AM
if you get a kitten that needs to be spayed or neutered, and you want it declawed (sad panda) then you can get it all done at once. a few hundred dollas (for both)if you adopt from the spca or just the wake county shelter, the neuter/spay is included in the adoption fee so you do pay a fee but, the spay/neuter is included with shots, etc so it ends up being a good deal. wake county animal shelter (if that is where you are) has TONS of kitties always. we got one from there. my other kitty i got off craig's list. so i paid for everything myself it was $$$ but she also had a lot of issues. if you just want a spay/neuter, there are some coupon programs and some low cost spay/neuter programs out there. 50-100. there might still be a 25 spay program, too.
3/20/2009 1:27:56 AM
Note: If you declaw a cat, they're pretty much stuck being an indoor-only cat for the rest of their lives. I wouldn't recommend it.
3/20/2009 1:30:14 AM
seriously...khcadwal was talking about judging ppl in another thread...thats one thing i judge people on
3/20/2009 1:31:26 AM
Apparently these places make you sign a contract saying you won't declaw a cat b/c its painful and they get behavioral problems afterward from losing the end of their paws.
3/20/2009 1:32:07 AM
yea i didn't declaw mine. she rarely scratches. you can get a lot of things like anti scratch spray and just train them not to scratch. scratch pads and posts help too. she only tries to scratch furniture every once in awhile and she knows she's wrong when she does it. i just have to look at her and she'll stop. she hasn't ruined any of my stuff.^ yea i am against declawing for more than the outdoor reason. there's a lot of argument about the consequences of declawing a cat. some vets are avidly against it and some aren't. its just one of those things. i'd never do it to my kitty. but seriously, you can train them not to scratch. i haven't had a problem. Don't declaw the cat... if it ever gets outside (and it WILL try) it will have no defense against anything and even running away from something will be difficult since it won't be able to climb trees. They do have these little claw pad things that you can put over the claws that work quite well.If you are looking for a free kitten, check Craigslist, they have tons, but it won't have any shots or be fixed usually. I got mine from a local animal shelter for like $125 a few years ago. She was already fixed, had all of her shots, was already registered with the county, and was not scared of humans. She only had one accident with the litter box right when I first got her. Normally she's an inside cat but I've gotten a lot of good weather lately so I've been leaving my window open and she's started jumping out recently. She's actually scared the hell out of a few dogs, it's kinda funny.
3/20/2009 10:50:17 AM
dogs, more attention.
3/20/2009 10:53:00 AM
You can also get this stuff that tastes really bad that you can spray on things to stop pets from chewing them. Although if you do end up getting a cat, cats hate the smell/taste of citrus. Sometimes my cat starts chewing on my blinds so I will eat an orange and wipe the inside of the peels all over the blinds and she won't go near them.
3/20/2009 4:25:50 PM
There are two sprays you can use: Boundary and Bitter AppleI personally have declawed my cats, but they don't go outside, haven't in 4 years...not that they haven't had the chance, they just choose not to. One of my 2 had to be declawed b/c she was scratching herself raw, and I had the other declawed since they live together. If you choose to declaw, do it early. Do not wait until the cat is an adult.
3/20/2009 6:55:57 PM
cats FTW
3/20/2009 7:06:01 PM
^^ Well the cat I want is already 1.5 years old and I don't want to have my first few weeks with it to be in bandages and taking pain pills all the time. As long as the cat doesn't tear through wires (which I can spray or cover with plastic) I don't really care b/c my furniture is crap. I'll still try to train it not to scratch stuff though, I'll need a water gun (another reason to get a cat )
3/20/2009 10:59:03 PM
i've spent at least $1500 on my animals in the last year. unless you're a millionaire, i don't suggest you get any animal. seriously they are so expensive. mine also destroyed a tv and a laptop. luckily i wanted a new laptop anyways, but still.
3/20/2009 11:10:51 PM
I thought cats only messed with stuff that had some sort of fabric on it. I can't be having scratches on my lcd tv!!!

Cat. He sleeps with me throughout the entire night, every night, he hops in my lap when I'm on the computer or watching television, he comes when he's called, he greets me at the door, he talks to me, and I swear he listens sometimes. I've even taken him to Crossroads Petsmart on a walk before. He likes to ride in the car. My cat has also stalked and preyed upon the two dogs that have visited the apartment. Granted, he's 15 lbs of cat, and these were smaller dogs, but he was not afraid.I got him from the SPCA. He's not declawed, and he uses the cardboard scratching posts like a champ. He's never peed outside the box, my apartment does not smell like cat piss or poo, and he's never thrown up (I have seen the results of him eating ribbon, but it wasn't in throw up form ), and he doesn't chew on anything. At one of my roomate's birthday parties, it was a black/red light party, and he desperately wanted out of my room. Stuck a glowstick around his neck like a collar, and he went out into the party (he's black, I was afraid he'd get tripped over with the whole lights turned off and just black and red lights). Didn't bat an eye. Also, with males, I would recommend neutering. This is when you might get a spraying problem of them marking territory. There's my cents.
3/20/2009 11:26:57 PM
sounds like one cool ass cat. the one i'm going to get is litter box trained so as long as it doesn't scratch my shit up or scratch me I should be a happy camper

My dog has been sick since last Thursday. He stayed over night at the vet's last night and he's now better and home! But it cost me $800+

hell yeah! He has to take it easy for a week or so, and is on meds for probably 2 weeks.
3/24/2009 8:23:03 PM
that sucks and I was planning on not getting insurance for the cat, now I must reconsider
3/24/2009 8:26:24 PM
dog park day, i think bomber and macho need to meet...and lp can bring her puppy if she wants
3/24/2009 8:28:46 PM
cats disgust me.... plus im always afraid they're going to pee on me in my sleep
3/24/2009 8:29:42 PM
i had VPI insurance on him for 2 years. He was a model of health, and for the routine checkups twice a year and vaccines VPI gave me shit back so I said fuck you to them. In lieu of that I started putting the same amount aside in savings each month. Unfortunately that was 4 months ago, so not nearly enough to cover this. Oh well. I still don't recommend insurance, this probably wouldn't have happened if one of my roommates wasn't a fucking pig and leave shit all over the place.
3/24/2009 8:30:19 PM
YAY!
3/24/2009 8:30:21 PM
best vet insurance policy i have ever had....have a dad as a vet, NO PET BILLS FOR ME!!!!!!!!
3/24/2009 8:47:00 PM
^you need to hook me up with your dad the vet. I mean my dog's way cooler than yours anyway
3/24/2009 9:52:55 PM
Outdoor cats are the best. They get rid of mice and moles and are easy to take care of. With dogs you have to walk them while you pick up their shit off of everyones lawn. Cats don't bark and annoy the hell out of the owner and everyone who lives within a mile of the dogs house. When was the last time someone sued someone else in a cat bite case?[Edited on March 24, 2009 at 9:58 PM. 3/24/2009 9:56:25 PM
haha yeah- i will definately abuse the power of having a dad who is a vet when i get my dogalthough, i'll probably be in vet school myself by then, so I might have better sources than having to drive 3 hours to head back home
3/24/2009 9:56:45 PM
Yeah I'd say that picking up my dog's poop isn't the highlight of my day.
