Arizona's got 3 excellent, professional caliber players and not much else, but those 3 are enough to carry them most of the time, and they did squeak in but not on the strength of their last 23 years...their resume was obviously superior to Saint Mary's

you must have missed their 7 game winning streak (6 of which were in conference)

not according to the RPI, where St. Mary's is 48 and 'Zona is 62. But good point.

^^oh I forgot Saint Mary's beat some good teams, oh wait they didnt...they lost to the only ranked team they played 3 times (Gonzaga). Arizona beat Washington, UCLA, Kansas and Gonzaga...get out of here with that shit.

oh and Ernie you might be right about the dude from Radford, I just based my statement on one of the announcers on FS Arizona, so I'm not terribly confident either way.

there's also no way that Zona (or any bubble team) should get in losing 5 of their last 6 games.

Four of those losses were to tournament teams and Arizona's best player was injured, way to change your argument when your first one was refuted

Four of which were to tourney teams, all were close

St. Mary's didn't play four tourney teams all year, lost all three games to Gonzaga, including a raping in the WCC tourney

Mills was hurt in the game at Gonzaga right? He played most of that game, I thought. Either way, SMC did better against Gonzaga without him.

Like was just said, St Mary's lost when Mills was out. Also, see the word "also" in my second point... that means i didn't change my argument, I simply added more information.

And you're right, St. Mary's only played 3 tourney teams, but they beat 2 and lost 2 close ones to Gonzaga, who a lot of people have in their elite 8 or better. The argument against Arizona is that 13 losses, particularly when almost half of them come in the last 1/3 of the season, shouldn't get you an at-large bid.

Yep. He scored 27 points in the first 16 minutes and they had a 5-8 pt lead... and then he got hurt.

The committee cares a lot more about teams that have shown they can play other tourney bound teams and win rather than their last 6 games or whatever.

Look man, if you don't beat any ranked teams all season, play in a shitty conference and don't win the conference tournament then you have no business being in the tournament. You can make an effective argument that other bubble teams should have gotten in instead of Arizona but Saint Mary's is NOT one of them.

so it wasn't a home game, maybe not neutral in purest sense of the word, but it wasn't at home and it wasn't at Gonzaga

i mean i got mizzu winning that region, which is pretty retarded with uconn and memphis in there, but washington?

I have Mizzou winning the Tournament, but Washington beating Memphis doesn't look too crazy considering how they've played today does it?

Isaiah Thomas, Quincy Pondexter, Jon Brockman, and Justin Dentmon are still around.

This region is loaded, but Washington is solid

[Edited on March 19, 2009 at 6:35 PM. Reason : also this team is much better defensively than the Nate-rob 1 seed team]

getting back to the thread topic

i realized i picked michigan, also

my bracket might go bye bye bye soon

well not really because its not like i had any of these teams going far, so hopefully my "big" teams will stay correct.

I took Clemson, based in part on my hatred for Michigan. I'm of the thought process of conference first, but I just don't think Michigan has the talent to hang w/Clemson

Washington is pretty fucking strong. Would not want to face them in the tourney. Ton of really good guards and one of the top big men in the country in Brockman. They lack a little depth in the frontcourt, but that's about it.

I think the contrasting playing styles could benefit Michigan, plus Clemson has played like shit lately (as usual this time of the year)

Also, Texas better not fuck me over. again.

i picked texas and michigan. i picked michigan based on ^^ the ol' standby clemson tradition of choking big this time of year. i dunno. def a risk. texas was looking iffy at first (still close). but a lot of time in both games. i just love watching game after game after game.

and my bracket isn't for money so it doesn't matter, i just like being right

i think it would be boring to just pick all the high seeds though. i'm sure those people fair better, but where's the fun in that?!

I picked Michigan too... even though I think Clemson has the far superior talent. Bielien (sp?) is a MUCH, MUCH better in-game coach than Purnell... and it's Clemson...
