I wish more game makers would recognize this, there have been several games i have swayed away from because of this exact reason... i want to at least have the option to not sit in my room by myself and listen to screaming a 14 y/o over xboxlive.

Trailer looks legit

Quote :
"The entire point of veteran is to be ridiculous, it's the hardest mode in the game. If it were easier I would have been disappointed with it. The challenge of Veteran mode is awesome.

It's also one of the few games in which playing single-player (veteran, anyway) will actually make you better at multiplayer. In many other games, FPS especially, even the hardest mode is just about learning how to work around the AI and how to do cheap shit that it doesn't know about."

I hate the veteran campagin... its not difficult so much as stupid. I mean its kinda annoying how the human player is the sole target of all of the japs/nazis/terrorists, your allies stand out in the open 5 feet from the enemy without doing anything... And having to rush the spawn points of the enemy so they dont just spawn an infinite number of bad guys... I know they have to make it challenging but I think they could do that without taking away all of the realism. Especially when you run out of ammo from killing the respawning terrorists and go back through the level to pick up ammo, and even though you are 500 yards from the "battle" (aka friendly and enemy AI units standing right next to each other not shooting) grenades still land at your feet with perfect accuracy.

/nerd rant

^I think there might actually be a gameplay mechanic in place that causes the grenades to spawn near your feet if you stand still for too long.

It's just there to keep you moving (same goes for the infinite respawning in some spots... puts emphasis upon taking areas instead of camping for safe kills)... probably the most useful element of it, actually... mobility is key in CoD4 multiplayer so they make sure that it's basically forced in veteran. Simply outshooting the AI just isn't hard enough, so it makes sure you're outshooting them while on the run.

I agree that it occasionally screws you over, but what top-difficulty level FPS doesn't at some points?

For Memorial Day I played through the COD4 campaign again on hardened and have also found out I'm pretty decent at multiplayer when it's not a 50 person nadespamfest server

I don't know why I never got into playing online much

I was at White Collar Crime when I saw the debut of this trailer on their big screen. I was standing at the opposite end of the bar and was thinking "damn this looks like a bad ass movie" then when I got closer I realized it was Modern Warfare 2. +1 for kick ass graphics and realism.

^Yea but there are some stupid things I hate about hardcore...

Not being able to see how much ammo I have, no grenade indicator, friendly fire and team killing (problem when GTs dont appear in time), no radar unless there is a recon plane, dogs being unstopable, second chance invincibility being even more a problem than it is in core, lack of HUD in general makes picking up weapons difficult and tossing back grenades impossible.

^you just named every difference between core and hardcore. So what you're saying is get rid of hardcore all together? I think hardcore is the best part of multiplayer because it makes it even more realistic. Last I checked I didn't have an ammo/Nade indicator IRL

^Last I checked, ppl didn't come back to life 10 seconds after being shot in the face.

j/k, i know what you mean and I agree. Hardcore is a nice break from nade spamming and martyrdom. I know it sounds dumb, but when I play HC I miss the "+10" after a kill. I guess I'm a fan of instant gratification and sense of accomplishment, as insignificant as it may be

No the main difference between core and hardcore is the decreased health and a lack of killcam, which I am fine with. All the other differences that I mentioned are stupid (imo) so I usually stick with core. The only thing I like about hardcore is that there is no need for stopping power, allowing perks like overkill/camo to get some use.

Quote :
" Last I checked I didn't have an ammo/Nade indicator IRL"

Last I checked I could check and see how much ammo I have in most weapons IRL, or count how many grenades I had IRL, or look at a compass IRL.

Last I checked I could run easily spot a gun I wanted in a pile of weapons on the ground and pick it up IRL, without accidentally picking up the other weapons multiple times. Also I think it would be easier to hear and spot a grenade bouncing on the ground IRL, than it is in the game with the audio and visual cues that can't compare to reality.

Hence things like the grenade indicator, or "Hold X to pick up This weapon" being necessary for realistic gameplay. I think it is more realistic to have text and indicators assist a problem that would not exist IRL, than to have the unrealistic problem and resulting frustration exist in the game without any assistance and just claim it is HARDCORE.

I mean yea you can argue that IRL you dont have the "Hold X to pick up M1A1 Carbine" text appear, but the counter to that is, IRL you would not stand over a clusterfuck of weapons having difficulty selecting the one you want. "Hey look a Carbine is in this pile of MP40s... I'll just grab it... FUCK MP40... swap this MP40 for the carbi..FUCK a silenced MP40... MAN this is HARDCORE!!1 lol

Wow, definitely need to stop playing warcraft and dust off my 360. I never beat COD4 because the disc kept crashing. New xbox since then so maybe I'll have better luck. That trailer made me happy.

^^please don't confuse that with a nerd rant. That is just plain stupid rant.

hardcore is supposed to be more than just decreased health. COD4's hardcore is perfect as is. Maybe because I don't camp I don't see a need to switch out weapons every 2 seconds during the same life span. If I'm not happy with the weapon of choice then I was dumb to pick it during the class selection screen.

Like you said, if its too difficult to play without all the aids then thats what core is for...don't fuck up hardcore because of a few kids who can't get any kills.

I think HC would still be "hardcore" if it

'assisted' in seeing weapons on the ground
maybe 'pointed' at grenades but did not inform you when u are in picking up range
inform you how many of your nades you have
a red dot on a blank "map" that would at least inform you of the relative direction of the shooter

all these thing in my opinion issues that make up for the players senses due to limitation from being a video game. The last balancing the game so players do not have advantage simply b.c they have the $1000 surround sound audio system.

^Exactly my point. Sure IRL you don't have a HUD, but in a video game you are much more limited in your actions/perceptions so the grenade indicator/text assists are there to make it so you are not so you are not constrained by the limitations of a video game so much.

and RSXTypeS... please explain what was "plain stupid" about my posts?

I thought I made some decent points... were you unable to come up with a better response than that?

as much as i like hardcore now... JCE makes some good points. i understand the idea of just making the game harder. his post is generally pointed towards the people that try to say hardcore is "more like real life"... when let's face it, it really isn't that much more realistic. i would like to see them try out some variations of hardcore to see what could or couldn't be better. live game patches are so well integrated anymore i don't see any reason not to take advantage of it and try some things out.

Having to look down your sights to properly shoot a target unless they're close enough that you can just spray briefly is a key point in hardcore

not having a hud that gives you every bit of information you need is another

having no distractions on the screen other than seek and destroy the enemy thats what makes it hardcore

I don't just want some decreased health and call it a day...thats just lame.

A better idea would be to leave Hardcore basically as-is (though better location-based damage in the game as a whole would be nice... two bullets to the tip of the toe should hardly mean death, even in HC. CoD4/5 already has a fairly sophisticated and variable damage system, it would be entirely reasonable to lessen damage done when it hits extremities... but that's an entirely different issue), leave Core how it is as well, and for the "Hardcore Mode means Realism Mode" crowd just make an actual Realistic Mode, which would include HUD elements to compensate for some of the things JCE mentioned.

^^ I agree with all those points and would even agree with not telling how much ammo you have.

IRL a soldier has to remember his clip count; he's not going to pop it out in battle to see how much he has left.

My only qualms were things that are in games due to the "limited" effect a console has compared to IRL.

Yea I was thinking the same thing about the weight of the clip ect that could clue you in to when to reload...

Honestly you could use a sharpie and keep tally marks of how many bullets you had left on your arm to make a HUD for real life...

Even in-game, HUD or no HUD, knowing how much is left in your clip is one of the easiest things you could possibly do. I'd be surprised if anyone who has played the game for more than a couple hours would ever need to look at that side of their screen again (unless they picked up a new weapon off the ground, in which case, without a HUD, just reload the thing anyway). It's just one of those things that is naturally done while playing.

I have never heard this complaint before, and it seems silly.

^ I just top off magazine excessively. Wouldn't the bigger realism problem be that whenever you swap out a half-full magazine for a full one the rounds are consolidated into another magazine?

For example, say I fired 15 rounds from a 30 round mag, then put in a new full one and fired 15 more rounds then put in a new one. I'd end up with one full magazine, not 2 half full ones.

It really doesn't, not when compared with the weight of the whole gun in the first place. A few guns have indications on the mag, but even then you'd have to pop the mag out to check or look at the side in the case of G36 mags for example

I'm holding a 7.62x39 round in my hand right now and it doesn't weight more than about 3 or 4 quarters, really in the heat of the battle you are not going to notice minute changes in the weight of your weapon to determine magazine capacity, especially in comparison with a gun that's 8-20 lbs already

you could keep rough count in your head however, get an instinctive feel for it over time like someone said

Quote :

that is kind of another pet peeve of mine, but too much realism starts to detract from the fun, consolidating ammo on mag reloads is a ridiculous and impractical concept in reality

I believe Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six was the same way, at least the original for PC before it got console-ized, it really forced you to be ammo conscious and not be a compulsive reloader because you'd be out of ammo in a heartbeat

honestly though, realistic tactical shooters are one of my favorite genres

Hopefully CoDMW2 fixes the shit that when u back out of a match it is usually for a good reason.

6 times while trying to play domination i got put in the same game which consisted of some n00bs on the nazi team with me, 3-douches rolling around the tanks in the middle of seelow (easily roll to the 1 maybe 2 spawn points we had) and fucking flood of dogs every 3 mins.
