Don't really see a problem, here. If a program is way over budget, it needs to be cut. It's obviously being mismanaged and we don't need to bailout failing programs. Military acquisition is a fucking joke -- extremely wasteful and plagued by dunderheads.

Those aren't like comparisons.

Most logical people can see that our current level of military spending is unsustainable just as they can see that our current level of deficits spent on social programs are also unsustainable.

We're not going to keep bailing companies out indefinitely just as we shouldn't keep building cold war toys that are used only in air shows and Jerry Bruckheimer movies.

They differ in one other way too. The government is explicitly authorized by the Constitution to spend on the military and national defense, but not to spend on bailing private companies and investors out.

That being said, it's always been my understanding that though incredible on paper and when they're in the air, the F-22 program has always been over budget and underwhelming for practical purposes.

" The action appeared especially awkward since among the dozens of world leaders and their spouses, handshakes abounded, but there appeared to be no other bowing in the room.

The U.S. State Department's office of protocol, in a statement attributed to acting chief of protocol Gladys Blouda, confirmed the type of greeting between heads of state depends on the customs of the countries, but a handshake is the most common form of greeting.

The online Travel Etiquette website for Saudi Arabia said handshakes are common greetings between members of the same sex. "

Do you blow your gay colleagues from time to time?

I watched the link, looks like a bow to me, but can someone tell me why I am supposed to be outraged at that? If I were a right wing nut being spoon fed all the right wing nut blogs would I be upset?

After we've fucked our good standing with the world and played arrogant imperialist for the past few decades, I think something like that could go a long way to repairing relations with the rest of the world. You're not going to read that on a conservative website though.

^ easy setup? That was the worst fail of a reply that I think I've ever read on this website. You're a doctor? wtf?

The f-22 project, if cut now, would leave the U.S. with the astonishingly weak fleet of 187 f-22's. Would someone care to explain to me why 187 of these fighters is not enough?

because china is building an amount of fighters that is greater than the number of missiles that those 187 can hold.

This site reports that the defense budget in being increased an extra 20 billion dollars and that F-35 production is gonna be boosted to make up for the decline of the F-22. If true, then I wager that in the next coming years we will see more of these fighters in the hands of our counterparts. I'm pointing to Mexico and Japan. We all know that the Cartel and North Korea situations are getting pretty heated. This is called posturing and its nothing new.

^^^^ The point is that the leader of the free world should not bow to another leader. No other president has ever done it and I dont think he should have here. Colleagues do not bow to one another.....severents bow to their masters....surely you can see the arguement.

I think Obama simply screwed up here and has shown a history of these episodes.....remember the pic where hes the only one without his hand over his heart while the national anthem is playing?

^exactly. I finally got to watch the video, he bowed. But thats nothing compared to him bending over the taxpayers.

Seriously, how can they deny that was a bow? I guess people really will believe anything they are told. Reminds me of that shaggy song, wasnt me.

It's a show of respect you dipshit. I get all the arguments about "we're America god damnit, we don't bow to anyone"... but if you're going to argue about the bow, you should at least ask why the King didn't bow himself...maybe he was respecting the American customs of offering the handshake, effectively showing reverence to our culture and customs. I see it as a great way to show the rest of the world that we are in fact humble and realize we have a black eye at the moment from what we've been up to the past decade. Good for obama.

I think what others are trying to say and failing at saying is this:

Bowing is specifically a sign of respect in Asian countries.
Bowing is not specifically a sign of respect in ME countries.

While in the long run it doesn't matter whatsoever, it definitely can be considered a faux pas to not know the proper ways of greeting dignitaries from different countries, just as if he had bowed to the Canadian PM or something along those lines.

The blogs are saying a white house aid said it wasn't a bow, but I'd really like to know where they're getting that from. I'm not sure anyone would actually try to say that's not a bow. OHHHH, after digging a little bit, it was an "anonymous Obama aid".

Right. Here's another blog: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/33289_Bush_Bowed_Too

yeah, that's what I thought the opposition would be to the bow, but apparently Muslims wouldn't bow to each other, so the complaint isn't that he's a Muslim, it's that he's ignorant of Muslim customs.

So.... that kind of undermines the whole "secret muslim" conspiracy, doesn't it?

^^ I'm pretty sure the "Hussein" in quotes, and the turban on his head eliminates any potential credibility the sign would otherwise have.

It would be like slapping swastikas on your musings, and expecting people to take them seriously.

I was just pointing out that that sign is mostly correct.

My opinions would be

1. good in some cases, but need stricter rules and I agree with late term ban. Im a huge fan of morning after pill. Solves a lot of problems.
2. good
3. not good
4. im on the fence, but leaning not good.

^ it's irrelevant if you feel the sign is correct, because it's obvious you couldn't engage in rational conversation with the creator of the sign.

because of the bow? please, what else has Obama done to "shit in the international pool"? Are you being blind on purpose by not seeing that Obama is an order of magnitude more popular internationally than Bush, or is it legitimate cognitive dissonance?

lol, the Europeans don't care that its Obama. We could have elected a monkey and it'd be more popular than Bush, purely b/c they didn't like Bush for not dictating some of his policies to their likings.
